Why haven't we tagged Greer?
DonInBuffalo replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just checked what franchised CBs are getting this season - almost $10 million. Greer isn't worth anywhere close to that. -
I can think of about 10 off the top of my head. Drew Bledsoe, Ruben Brown, Travis Henry, Eric Moulds, Sam Adams, Terrence McGee, Takeo Spikes, Brian Moorman, Jason Peters, Aaron Schobel were all Pro Bowl selections.

While of course those two aren't as serious as the others, they're still good examples of how Lynch uses poor judgment and fails to accept responsibility for his own actions. The guy's a fuggin millionaire who drives a Porsche. How hard would it have been for him to make a mental note of at least the approximate address of the mailbox he ran over, and tell anybody who works for the Bills what happened, and ask them to help him make sure it gets taken care of? How many times does he have to be told he's not allowed to bring his own booze into a bar? That alone is embarrassing enough to the NFL that Goodell might take into consideration when deciding Lynch's punishment.
-
Has any Buffalo professional athlete come anywhere close to this standard in an entire career, much less two years: - Reportedly numerous incidents of being thrown out of downtown bars for carrying his own bottle into the bar. - Ran over someone's mailbox, but wasn't charged because the owner didn't press charges. - Hit a pedestrian injuring her and drove away. - Smoked pot with friends in a car parked on a public street, with a loaded unregistered gun somewhere inside the car. The Buffalo media is "killing" Lynch because he's earned that right. It's become tragically obvious that he makes stupid decisions and doesn't learn from his mistakes.

I put myself into the "Doomed" category, possibly for slightly different reasons. As long as Ralph is alive, Brandon's job is going to be to put a "financial face" on the Bills that makes them a viable (i.e. relatively quick) sale when Ralph dies. Otherwise, Ralph's kids might actually have to declare bankruptcy just to pay the inheritance taxes, because unless the team sells, they probably won't have the $$ to pay those taxes. That means making at least $30 if not $50 million per season, so the new buyers will have enough slack to cover their financing charges. Which means they probably won't be spending even up to the cap anytime soon. When Ralph dies, the new owners will be faced with the same situation, except instead of making $30-$50 million per season, they'll just be breaking even without being able to afford to spend to the cap. It'll be a virtual lock that the team moves (probably to Toronto) within a few years after Ralph dies.

I seriously doubt that even anyone directly involved from the Buffalo police in Lynch's traffic incidents hold a grudge against him, much less so much so they would "spread the word" all around the country. Let's keep things in perspective here. All he did was hit a pedestrian causing very minor injuries, and then followed his attorney's advice. Beat cops and DAs generally deal with much worse crap than that on a regular daily basis.

Let's see, there were three people in the car, four blunts, and the strong odor of marijuana. While there might not be enough legal evidence to convict Lynch of a crime, Goodell isn't held to that standard. He can just use his common sense to conclude that Lynch was almost certainly smoking, and without any doubt used very poor judgment, by putting himself in a situation where he was in a car on a public street with improper plates, an unregistered loaded gun, and people smoking pot.
-
I completely agree. FYI, the marijuana laws here in New York are actually more lenient than in California. "Simple possession" of less than 25 grams is a violation, the equivalent of a traffic ticket. There's no criminal record, because it's not even considered a "crime".

Mariquana found in Lynch's car
DonInBuffalo replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that makes a hell of a lot of sense. Spend thousands of $$ analyzing those blunts so maybe you can collect enough evidence to charge someone with a misdemeanor and fine them a few hundred $$. What have you been smoking? -
I disagree. While there wasn't enough evidence to charge Lynch with pot possession, it's plainly obvious that he was smoking in a car parked on a public street. Given Lynch's history, that alone is probably enough for a 4 game suspension. Goodell's quote, which was made before this incident happened, should give you an idea about how he's going to approach this: If the bolded part doesn't describe Lynch's behavior, I don't know what does.
-
Maybe you should read the article again. The reason they didn't charge them isn't because they wouldn't admit it's marijuana. It's because they didn't have enough tangible evidence to determine who it belonged to and who was smoking it. For example, absent additional evidence, if they took this to court, all three of them would just get on the stand and say it was the other two who were smoking, and the case would get thrown out. Unless the officers actually observed people smoking, they don't have much of a case.
-
You've got to be kidding me. Spend serious $$ testing blunts to see if they're actually marijuana cigarettes, so you can charge these people with the lowest level misdemeanor on the books? Seems like a tremendous waste of resources to me.
-
The marijuana news is of course huge. It pretty much throws out any potential claims of illegal search. Once the police smelled the odor, that alone is enough probable cause to give them authority to search the entire car.

The AFC North and AFC West opponents are the ones that finished in the same place in their division that the Bills finished in the East. So the Bills play Cleveland at home and Kansas City on the road.
-
http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/schedules/nfl_future_afce.htm In addition to the division games, Home: Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Cleveland Away: Jacksonville, Tennessee, Atlanta, Carolina, Kansas City I'm guessing the Colts game is the one that gets played in Toronto. Probably no SNF games. The divisional games seem like the best candidates for a MNF or Thursday NFLN game.

problems burning Bills games to DVD
DonInBuffalo replied to DonInBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can burn some things on my PC. I have basic cable wired to the PC, so I can burn any non-HD cable broadcast. I can capture OTA HD to my hard drive, but the version of Nero I have won't burn HD without me paying extra for some sort of add-on. I'm not going to pay for something that might end up not even working at all. I would prefer to not use my PC to do the captures, so it's not tied up the entire game. -
problems burning Bills games to DVD
DonInBuffalo replied to DonInBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm already doing that. I record the game on my digital cable box, and then transfer to DVD later. My box holds roughly 15-20 hours of HD programming. I'm a pack-rat by nature; it's handy to have the games in case there's something I want to go back and look at later. -
For the past few seasons, I've gotten in the routine of burning the Bills games to RW DVDs and then re-using the DVDs the next season. My SONY DVD Recorder has a built-in "feature" where it won't record programs with the "copy-never" signal. The idea is to prevent people from burning things like PPV movies. Not a big deal for me, since had no plans to burn anything other than free programming on standard cable channels. Unfortunately, a few times this season, the last two weeks in particular, partway through the game the recording stopped, displaying a message that the signal was copy-protected. In some instances, I was able to record later portions of the game, and in other instances the entire remainder of the game was protected. Anybody else having these sorts of issues? Is it only the HD broadcasts that have this copy-protection?

If there was an official stat for tackles by a LB 5 or more yards beyond the LOS, it would named after London Fletcher.

The "big picture" is that the Bills organization from top to bottom right now is more about making money than winning football games. Let's go through what's happened just in the last year or so: - Marv resigns. Instead of hiring a GM, Ralph promotes Brandon, who is essentially a businessman with no football background, to run the organization. - Steve Fairchild quits to take another job. They promote Turk Schonert. Based on his track record as a QB coach, nobody in their right mind would consider him a legitimate OC candidate. His resume reads like a train wreck. - Since Schonert was promoted to OC, they need a QB coach. Might as well promote AVP. I'm sure his year working as the QB coach for UB (when they were one of the worst teams in college football) and his year in NFLE more than qualifies him for the job. - Jim McNally retires. Obviously the best choice is to promote Sean Kugler, even though he's never held the title of "OL coach" in the NFL, and has worked primarily with OT/TE at the NFL level. Should anyone really be surprised that our interior OL has struggled this season? What do all of these personnel decisions have in common? In each case, the least expensive person was hired. Of course, we could always talk about Toronto. Some teams have played an occasional game outside of the country at a neutral site, but the Bills took it to an entirely different level. They signed an agreement to play one of their home games at a neutral site for each of the next 5 years. Without a doubt, they compromised their chances of making the playoffs during that span by giving away (more accurately selling away) home field advantage, because money is more important than winning. Here's the "big picture" as I see it, and it's not pretty. When Ralph dies, whoever buys the team is going to have to take on a substantial amount of debt, as in at least $500 million. Last I read, the Bills are making at least $30 million a year, but interest on that kind of debt would probably gobble that up and then some. Brandon's job is for all practical purposes strictly a financial one: build/maintain a business model for the Bills that will make them a viable purchase when Ralph dies. Here is the nightmare scenario Ralph is trying to avoid: He dies, the team is making marginal profit, making the team a very difficult sell in the short-term, because anyone buying the team might go broke just making interest payments before they can even work out a deal to move the team to another city. Because the team doesn't sell, one or more of Ralph's kids get stuck with this enormous debt, as in hundreds of millions in capital gains and inheritance taxes. It's quite possible in that scenario they would have to declare bankruptcy.

Are you sure about that? http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-4-534...-delivered.html You're ESPN's AFCE beat reporter. If "all of your sources informed you" that the extension had been signed, is it possible that another reporter at ESPN took that and ran with it without getting your confirmation/approval?

Do you honestly believe that Brandon even has the authority to fire Jauron? Get real.

Some of my favorites that I've read so far include Hillary Clinton, Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, Karl Rove, Fred Thompson (the picture alone is classic) , Ann Coulter, George Stephanopoulos, Christopher Columbus, and of course, Tom Brady.
