Now that free agency is settling a bit and we have an idea of what some foes are shaping into I got to thinking what our likely opponents could be for night matchups (TNF,SNF, & MNF). The NFL has a 5 game max for primetime games + one additional flex game for every NFL teams. This season also the NFL is allowing for MNF games to be flexed into in the back half the season so there is some talk certain teams and matchups might be setup so the NFL can easily swap out a poor matchup for a better one (which as the Broncos proved was a real issue last year, Lets Roll Broncos Country #ThanksRuss lol).

The Bills have been a max primetime team for 2 of the last 3 years with 2021 being 4 primetime games plus a late season flex. This years schedule is loadeddddd with primetime opponents as the Bills host playoff teams in Dallas, New York Gman, and Miami plus the Jets now have Rodgers and Broncos have Sean Payton. Their away schedule is even wilder as they are at KC, Cincy, Philly, & LA Chargers plus the normal of division opponents Jets/Phins. The Patriots for some reason were the divisional opponent of choice the past two years for night games, but given how their appeal is falling while the Jets has skyrocketed and Miami is loading up I would expect both of those games to be at 1pm finally. The NFL has flexed the Bills the past five years for either the Saturday game in December (Pats 2019, Broncos 2020, & Phins 2022) or Sunday for SNF/4pm (Steelers 2020 & Jets 2021).

The league does try to rotate so prime matchups that are in conference like KC v BUF are shared between CBS for their national window and the night matchups on TNF, SNF, and MNF. The league will also listen to team requests for things like if they opened on the road last year can they be at home for this year or in the Bills case they have been on Thanksgiving a bunch can they take a break from that. So factoring this in I rank matchups at night as followed and please share yours:

    1. at KC (MNF as last year was CBS so back to night)

    2. DAL at BUF (SNF // Ratings to the max people)

    3. Jets (SNF // I lean towards at NYC but either way with the other probably the DEC flex game for the night matchup)

    4. at PHI (MNF)

    5. MIA at BUF (TNF)

I think the CIN game will be the 4 pm national window spot along with the Chargers.

My first guess would be any and all games with a kickoff time of 5:00PM Eastern or later.

I like that plan very much, but my gut says they are convinced to keep Morse at center this year, so it’s possible they may be drafting that new center this year. If so, they don’t need Bates. They will draft a kid, use him at guard and trade Bates to Chicago and then move the kid to Center next year. There are a few 2nd/3rd rounders who could fit this.

The pick is needed to fill out roster needs, not on a C who could be had in the latter stages of day 3.

As Williams and Bates both have some experience at center,  is there a chance that Morse has had enough concussions and walks away?   He’s been dinged up a few times over the last couple of seasons.   I realize that Williams had a concussion last season but don’t think he’s had multiple like Morse.  Now we’ve got two bigger, younger players to possibly step up.

This is possible. They’ll give the young ones every chance to prove themselves in camp.

I am not over the Coaching fails on both sides.

and we all know my lingering opinion of Ken Dorsey as OC. Strong as some about Leslie Frazier. But at least he moved on.

Remain hopeful McD learned a shton from that game and how the season was trending.

    But honestly

I get it. Exhausted. Whole team. Emotionally bankrupt at that point, anyone could see it.

New season coming. and a rebirth of optimism is in order. Even if Quesenberry was brought back  lol

whats the point though. Everyone knows it.

Diggs had a multi-hour meltdown on the sideline during that game and this will continue to happen if they don’t hold each other accountable. Not one person on that sideline knew how to keep him from losing it. Diggs is the kind of personality who can destroy a sideline during a game and I’ll repeat it, nobody could talk him off that ledge. If the coaches are not doing their jobs to perfection, he’s gonna lose it. My point is that the coaches lost that game. It was poorly prepared for, poorly called, and many players knew it. Frazier lost his job, McDermott has one more chance and, if they don’t get it right THIS season, they’re gonna blow it up and start over. They will only have the QB with which to build the team around. Coach is not gonna have the same leeway as his HC mentor Andy Reid.

Good article.  This sticks with me, "This is the team’s most important draft since ’18."  Have to agree.

To me, what has to change is this:  Allen only has so much mental processing and athletic movement he can do on a given play.  Consider this his "play capacity".  When the Bill don't give him a line where he can calm down, set his feet, and throw on rhythm, the majority of his play capacity is used on evasion and improvising.    I think the Bills waste his play capacity on him escaping and improvising instead of giving him a line where his capacity is used properly to execute plays and make the best decisions.  Daboll ran Josh into traffic to build his career and Beane cheaped out on the OL to give McDermott his 8 starting D linemen.  Both are Allen abuse.

    You nailed it, my friend.

  5. So, after this game, our DC semi-retires. Then, our HC comes out and says that he wants to be the DC and that it will be more of an attacking style of defense. Frazier lost the last couple playoff games. Period. Nobody wants to talk about it, but that is what happened. Sure, the HC takes the ultimate blame. But our DEFENSIVE failures cost us our last two playoff games by being too damned soft; once in the last 13 seconds and one for almost an entire game. Leslie is a nice guy, but the blank stares on the sidelines do not exactly exude confidence in me. I mean, WE talk about it, but Taiwan ain’t exactly keepin it real by not specifically discussing this fact. Playing prevent defense in Q1 while already down multiple scores is just about stupid. He schitt the bed. Now, a player needs to speak the damn truth. “Man, we had some real bad situational defense calls in that game.” That’s what I want to read.

  6. And I’m not concerned with “upside” after Edmunds. You can keep the 16 year-olds with their athletic freakishness. Give me some maulers and let’s roll. High IQ and energy guys like Bates and Brown (yes…I went there). If I want someone with me in a bar fight, I want Spencer Freakin Brown as my wingman. That kid ain’t afraid of contact whatsoever. Hell, I remember Jerry Crafts and those days were miserable. This tool was ridiculed for a whole bunch of stuff (not appropriate fodder for this site, look it up and include “Howard Stern” in your search efforts) and I recall a quote that he needed to cut out his favorite food to keep his weight down. His favorite food was “pizzas and chickens”

That's frikin hilarious!!  Not his pass blocking grade though.

Does he have more upside then Bates?

And he and Ike can wrestle to see who is the Bills best Big 10 West O lineman.  Iowa and Wisconsin love their O lineman.

And Ike Boettger is from Iowa. You nailed it. Played LT there.

If they draft a quality guard, Bates may be traded for a pick and cap space.

Bates’s future is at center with this team. If all goes as planned, he may be the surprise starter at the end of camp with a salary cap dump of Morse. $6mil dead cap and over $5mil savings. Will this definitely happen? No. But it surely could if folks step up. Take their financial lumps this year and help next year’s cap.

The touches are not a problem whatsoever . There’s gonna be enough offensive plays for everyone to get there’s. Plus Henry would like to get less touches to stretch his career out so 18/20 touches per game is double and I believe Hopkins and Diggs can both get 150 plus targets.

As each day passes, the odds increase that Singletary re-ups with us. He’s an Allen favorite and understands his role on this offense. His true value is around $3m/year, at most, as his talents and production are both easily replaceable. Don’t let Sportrac fool you, he’s a dime-a-dozen talent.

News flash the Bills are happy with this Oline and they weren’t nearly as bad as u make it out. Plus we still have our middle rd pks to add some lineman to develop and our 1st rd Pk. So we can still replenish the Oline for the future.

You nailed it. McGovern IS an upgrade over Saffold and having Boettger back helps immensely as it relates to depth. Brown had zero TC reps last season and Doyle provides a hopeful swing tackle for game days. Beane is doing a great job of eliminating glaring needs before the draft, so they can focus on BPA. Be very thankful that we have a more-than-capable front office. As it relates to WR, someone young will standout in camp and they’ll look to develop that talent. May be a draft pick, low-end roster filler currently signed, or a UDFA. The advent of high-flying college offenses makes it a lot easier to find bodies for this role that it did 30 years ago.

At this point it is a game of chicken. A lot of teams could benefit from signing him. He is the size of a C, but could play G.

    He is still a tweener.

RocCity - are you from Olean? I remember being at the Olean Center Mall circa 1983?? and watching some badasses walk in with a cardboard remnant and rocking it out for about 10 mins.

  12. This kid has had way too many people in his ear. Lorax claiming he’ll be a HOFer before 1 game played. Did it go to his head? I don’t think so. But he sure helped us lose a humiliating game to NE last year. No reason for his horrific play misdiagnoses. He’s the Ron Burgundy of MLB’s in that all you have to do is look him off and you’ve got a completion. Cannot stress enough that I’m glad he’s gone and we can finally stop talking about him.

I only said I haven’t missed a game since 1991 but I’ve watched them for 40+ years. And living thousands of miles away, before Sunday Ticket, made watching every freakin game very difficult, but I did it. So, tell ME…which player, non-QB, has created more animosity and conversation than Tremaine? It’s been like this since DAY ONE.

  13. Thank GOD! The most polarizing player in Bills history. He’s not a leader - nobody can argue with this statement. I’ll never forget the Jags loss last year when he did not play. He sat at the end of the bench, not involved whatsoever. This was when I decided I was done with him and Gisele (poster) can remember this moment when I threw my hands up and said he was hopeless. Good riddance.

Last name I will throw out there, Brendan Daley the linebackers coach from the Chiefs. He was brought into the NFL as a member of Leslie Frazier’s staff in Minnesota, coached on Belichick’s staff for the Patriots and for the Rams and Chiefs under Steve Spagnolo. He is the type of guy with experience under a number of different big time regimes defensive systems who could have great potential as a DC. He also has 4 Super Bowl rings.

You don’t win championships with rookie DC’s in the NFL. Look it up.
