Debit Cards for Victims of Hurricane Katrina
IUBillsFan replied to thanes05's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well I guess that's what I find amazing...If the insurance company is telling you that your house isn't going to flood that usually tranlates to lower rates NOT higher, since insurance rates are based on past experience. What was the cost if you are in a flood zone? -

Huh good question...and on the flip side should you expect me to pay for your house and stuff instead of mine? Look I do feel REALLY REALLY bad for you and your family but why did you buy a house there if you knew it could be destroyed and you couldn't afford insurance? BTW...My parents were in Charlie last year and have yet to get any money from the gov't. Also insurance companies don't lable areas flood zones or not that is upto the gov't to survey the land and determine. Just because a house was flooded and not in a flood zone doesn't mean there was some kind of scam those areas are usually based on 100 year flood maps. It is surprising that it would cost $500/mo for flood insurance for a house that's not in a flood zone. I do know flood insurance isn't cheap but it's usually about the cost of regular home owners insurance. -

Isn't enough for what? I'd like to know how they went about getting this figure. Is this so that people can get a hotel, apt or whatever and clothes, food, ect. Will there be more. How much should they get? Should we take into account any private money and help they'll get? How come they don't do this for EVERYONE that loses their home in a natual disaster? I'm guessing this is a way for the Bush administration to try and buy back votes... -

Well that depends. If you consider that in the summer if CA needs more gas they can't just get what IA isn't using since they have all these different types of blends. So the amount of refineries is an issue.

Same as Buffett. He has little musical ability but it's just more of an escape. At least with Parrotheads, mostly middle age middle class people looking for a day or two to pretend you're on an island with no cares. The Deadheads sort of the same thing but more of a way of life.

SC Rules that Local Governments can evict
IUBillsFan replied to Arkady Renko's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yep...Doesn't even need to be that big... You own two undeveloped acres that you like as a buffer you're paying $2000/yr in taxes....A developer comes and says he can put 8 houses there and each house will pay $3000/yr in taxes...BOOM that $2000/yr just turned into $24000/yr, who do you think gets to keep the land. As far as "fair value" goes huh I wonder who decides that? -
Why not just retype the memo's? Sure that makes sense. Make sure there are no originals to compare to, good idea... Seems like the "left" likes this M.O. If the facts don't fit the story get new "facts". Smith told AP he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals. link

The best ones are the people that have the "protect the environment" stickers on their car as there flicking their cigarette butt out the window.

What does that say about John Kerry??? I guess he was smart to NOT release all his naval records during the election or this would have come out sooner... Maybe D's were good back then...

So reading all your responses you are for school vouchers, right? As for a more equitable way of dividing money for education you should should do a little reading on what is going on in MI. That's what they do and it's not working too well especially in the cities that have high growth rates... -

I'm thinking that most people are, most likely right, that this will is going to turn into a lawsuit. I bet that's where most people have the problems is that it may or may not have hurt her feelings. The next thing is jesse jackson down there saying how bad it is and then a muti-million dollar lawsuit for, in your words, hurt feelings. As for racisim now a days, IMO, it's WAAAAAY more economic than racial. I don't care who lives next to me as long as they can afford the house (ie take care of it). -

Sure they can if the bar owner called and told them he was having problems...One other thing is that almost ALL stories have three sides, we are hearing one. -

This article hits on some good points on young people...Generation Broke Too many 22-year-olds expect to start their adult lives at their parents' level of material satisfaction, without the 30 years of labor it took them to get there. -

So what? Why do you think this? Maybe they are still making a ton of money but it is because of the fees and rates they charge the people that still make their payments. Really it doesn't have to hurt them they just pass those costs onto the other customers just like taxes gov't rasies taxes compaines don't leave there prices fixed they raise them to make up the difference. Like I said some people need and should declare but too many people, IMO, use it as an easy out. Based on your response to a previous post it seems like you think people should be able to charge whatever they want and if it gets to be too much then boom clear it all away...Hell the CC make enough money anyway so who cares those people should get there stuff close to free... Should the CC give people soooo much credit probably not but nobody forces them to go to best buy and get a $5000 TV people make the decision themselves. -

Some people do deserve second chances but IMO it became too easy to just wipe away bills that people didn't want to pay. Hell my sister is one she couldn't save a dollar to save her life but you sure wouldn't know it with her car, house ,ect...But two years ago poof, all her bills went away. She couldn't control her spending but she didn't need to in the end. I love my sister but it's people like her and her bastard ex that hurt people that may really need it. -

Well one I didn't throw out a statistic without any backup. Two feel free to point out in my post where I said ANYTHING about someone having an "illness coming to them"... I'll wait while you link you source...My point was that MAYBE just MAYBE SOME people may not have to declare bankrupcty because of medical bills if they hadn't wasted money elsewhere. I know a few people (more than five) that have declared bankruptcy and not one was due to medical bills but if they would have had medical bills put them over the top I would think that they may be in that "70%" which IMO would skew the stats. -
