Outside of Von and Rousseau, this entire D-Line, has seemed to get worse and worse each week that goes by. I don't know if it's due to the rotation they are on or what, but you would think with them getting the frequent breaks from swapping, they would be good and fresh. This doesn't seem to be the case. Poor tackling, taking themselves out of run plays by not staying home and clogging up their assigned gaps because it seems the focus is more trying to get up field and after the QB, etc. The D-Line was supposed to be a big strength of this team this season, but they seem to be on a downhill trajectory lately. If Von needs to get on them and tell them they each need to start pulling their own weight, I hope he's able to do that and be Von the captain, the leader, and vet, not just Von the nice guy. Time to get on them, Captain.

Right now, we are 1/2 game up in the loss column on Miami and the Jets. They are both 2-1 in the Division. We're 0-2. If we only win 3 out of the next 6, how is that not sick to my stomach news? Is Miami going on a losing streak too? The Jets? Only winning 3 out of the next 6 means we even have to worry about the Pats.

Geez, I hope they're all wrong, but the post-game presser with Josh, he looked beyond just bummed about losing the game. The way he was talking and had his head down, I was like, this dude is seriously taking this hard. Even harder than the playoff loss in KC last year it seemed. It's almost like he already knew there was bad news going on with him.

Coaching Staff has to take a huge blame for yesterday
Billz4ever replied to BillyBilliams's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd take the production we got out of Beasley any day over what we are getting from Davis. Some deep balls every few games and then disappearing for big chucks of time is not what you should be getting from a WR2. -
On to Minnesota (get this game in the rear view mirror!)

Can you show me where I said we shouldn't prepare for Minnesota? Considering you're putting words in my mouth I never said, it looks to me like you're just itching to argue because I provided some sobering facts. -

We need to worry about the Division right now, not the Conference. We are only a half game up in the loss column on both Miami and NY, while they're both 2-1 in the Division and we're 0-2. We are 1 loss away from being in 3rd place in our own Division. -

The Jets are very much in contention in the Division, so calling it their "Super Bowl" is like saying they are out of it. We are 1/2 game up in the loss column on them and Miami, and both of them are 2-1 in the division, while we're 0-2. We are 1 loss away from being in 3rd place. Not in the Conference...in the Division. -
The Packers gift wrapped a game plan for the Jets and the Jets happily accepted and executed. Meanwhile, our coaching staff stands there dumbfounded as to how other teams are able to run against our Nickel. No adjustments mind you, simply standing there like statues sticking with the status quo like nothing's wrong. Neither GB or the Jets are great running teams either, but we sure made them look like they were.

Can we talk about how 2 teams in a row ran it down our throat...
Billz4ever replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
I swear it seems like we're playing with a different D-line than we were at the start of the season. Not getting the same pressure in the pass rush and getting pushed around against the run. I really don't get it. -

Doesn't speak very highly of our LB corps if that's actually true. 😂 Third linebacker, extra lineman, whatever. It's like hey Frazier, do something besides standing there like a statue as they make it look like our defense is standing still. -
The long drive that started at the 4 where I think they ran all but 1 play, what's the purpose of nickel there?
-
I've legit never heard of the defensive philosophy that says if they are running on you with big personnel packages, the answer is to have more DBs on the field. Sounds like a great idea. Guess we should start playing dime near the goal line.
-
Thanks for the wonderful insight.
-
Disagree completely. Extra DBs will never be a substitution for filling gaps and holes, which is what Lineman and LBs are trained to do at the point of attack. That's just a plain and simple fact. If you're getting ran on play after play and you refuse to bring in an extra lineman or backer, you're going to have a long day. And the formations and personnel packages the Jets had in the game today, especially in the second half, they screamed run and late in the game they ran the ball almost exclusively with no adjustment by Frazier on Defense. We were playing Zach Wilson, not Patrick Mahomes.
-
The thing Frazier doesn't seem to understand though is there's a huge difference playing Nickel when your offense has given you a sizeable lead than playing Nickel in a close game like today. In other games where the opposition was playing from behind, they typically abandon the run obviously for clock reasons. Last week, GB was behind 3 scores, but said screw it, we're running anyway and they were gashing our Nickel D. The Jets copied that today in a close game where they didn't have to abandon the run and we see what happened. If Frazier cannot adjust, we will keep seeing this unfortunately.
-
You're exactly right though. Sticking to the Nickel when the formation says run (and the Jets were running some big sets today) you are going to expose your DB's to have to engage lineman more often, which generally isn't a matchup you want to see. Thus is Frazier though. No adjustments even when they are almost exclusively running the ball later in the game. Having an extra LB in there rather than a smaller DB can make all the difference in the world when it comes to run defense. Tell me why you would be playing a defensive scheme (nickel), which is designed to stop the pass, when the opposing offense has committed to running the ball and is pushing you down the field and the opposing QB is Zach Wilson? Is Frazier really that scared of him?

I would argue our Defense was in worse shape personnel wise when we beat KC. I blame the D coaching for what we saw today on that side of the ball. They were almost exclusively running the ball late. What is he supposed to do? The Jets were committed to the run and Frazier was committed to the Nickel. Not a good matchup. -

Somebody needs to explain to me what it is about the Jets offense that would have you in Nickel in the first place. No responses to that question yet. -
Is it time to consider another kicker?
Billz4ever replied to SydneyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, definitely no excuse for that especially in that situation. -
Why oh why are we not establishing a running game ?
Billz4ever replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
They try to run it, but when they have couple plays that don't gain much, it's like Dorsey says the heck with it. We have the offensive talent that we don't need to run if they choose not to, but when Josh is off, like he clearly was today, we are going to struggle. -
I would disagree. How many seasons did we seen the Bills get off to a great start, only to tank the rest of the way? I'm not saying that's going to happen to this team and I don't think it will because there's just too much talent, but I'm a believer that opponents study you and will mimic other teams where they have success against you. GB showed everyone that our Nickel Defense will struggle against the run. Didn't so much matter last week because we were up 3 scores, so we got away with letting GB chew their own clock. That same blueprint can be used against us in close games, like it was today. We have a Defensive Coordinator that apparently is more worried about the long ball even when his D is getting pushed up and down the field by an offense committed to the run and they even had a QB who's known to struggle against pressure. If other teams are adjusting to what we are doing, but we are not adjusting to what they are doing, that's probably not a good recipe for winning and gives me concerns going forward.
