If Hyde and Poyer Are Healthy, We're Undefeated
Billz4ever replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, signing vets to ride the bench doesn't make much sense to me, especially given McD's general dislike of relying on rookies, which makes it even stranger. Who was available out there that we could've had at a price that would've made sense for us? We signed Marlowe, a guy that already knows our D, and they still played who they played yesterday. -
The few times Frazier does blitz, it's often off the corners where the blitz takes too long to actually do anything. That is just poor scheming. Even if you drive 99 yards, if you throw an INT in the endzone, what difference does it make? These poor redzone decisions have become commonplace the last few games and will continue to plague this offense if Josh doesn't just take what the D is giving instead of trying to force bad balls.
-
Or put more pressure on Cousins and force him into bad throws where the receiver doesn't have a chance at it. We've made Cousins yesterday and Wilson last week look much better than they actually are IMO and you give almost any NFL QB time to throw with little pressure, they are going to find a receiver.

Cleveland is not a good team, however, they do have the 5th best rushing attack in the league at just under 160 yards/game. We'll see if Frazier stubbornly sticks with the Nickel even if they do effectively run the ball on us. Pretty sure every team that blitzes know the drawbacks of it and are willing to accept those risks to try to disrupt the offense. The drawbacks of rushing only 4 are what we saw yesterday. Expecting to get consistent pressure with only rushing 4 is just not realistic against a good line.
-
I expect him to send more heat. If you aren't getting pressure with 4 and the other team keeps moving the ball and converting 3rd downs, what logic says to just keep doing what you're doing? If you get burned with the blitz, so be it, but at least you did something to try and stop them instead of what you were doing that wasn't working. What's going on with Josh is completely bizarre though. It all started after the bye. Clearly looking like the young, undisciplined Josh.

I agree with everything you're saying there, but those other teams I think also had coaching staffs that were more willing to make the adjustments needed to iron out the kinks. I've pretty much lost all faith in Frazier at this point. He's stubbornly committed to only rushing 4 and allowing some fairly pedestrian QB's to sit back and pick us apart. Offense needs to figure out what is happening to them in 2nd halfs of games and Josh needs to make better decisions and take what the defense is giving him. While I think they most certainly CAN turn it around, whether that actually WILL or not is two different things.

If Hyde and Poyer Are Healthy, We're Undefeated

Don't see how you could make such an assumption when we aren't generating hardly any pass rush to speak of, and our offense has done almost nothing in the second half for 3 straight games now. -
Yeah, Dillion was a good runner, but he only played 3 seasons with NE and only rushed for 1K once. James White was the best back NE had because he was the best fit for their offense.

Who was the "primo" back the Rams last season? And Brady had "primo" backs? Since when?

Who has been the biggest disappointment?

Oh, how I long for the days where we got consistent production out of a receiver not named Diggs. This offense is clearly lacking the consistency and dependability of a Beasley-type player in that role. I personally think Shakir is the best made for that role, but once again, our coaching staff seems to think McK is the man, where he's proven more often than not, that he's clearly not. -
It's so bizarre. I've been going through other team's box scores to see if there's a trend with any other teams looking like a completely different team the second half. There is. The Vikings. Except in the opposite order and we saw that yesterday. The Bills had that stat going for awhile were they didn't allow a 3rd quarter or 2nd half TD. That's obviously gone out the window and now the stat is our own team not being able to score a TD in the second half.
-
One has to wonder what this coaching staff is doing at halftime. Our offense goes into snooze mode or even worse, turnover mode, in second-halfs lately. Few if any defensive adjustments where they realize they need to actually get pressure on the QB and start bringing heat instead of letting the opposing QB sit back there until receivers get open. I saw an interesting stat this morning that I thought to myself, "no way that's accurate". I had to go back and double check, but it absolutely is. The Bills have not scored a second half touchdown since the Knox game winner at KC. That floored me. That's just not going to cut it.
-
Most of that is due to the fact Frazier rarely blitzes and seems to be fine with rushing 4 and not getting pressure. Tells me he's scared to death of his secondary and thinks we need 7 in coverage every play.

Any other conclusion than this is on the coaches, is just wrong

Right, the D didn't play their best ball today, but they did put the offense in the position to win it. -

Irrelevant. The Defense put the offense in a position to win the game. When the chips were down, Josh unfortunately blew it today. No excuse for throwing that ball. None.
