Immobile QBs with poor vision often get hammered in the pocket. Josh doesn't get sacked a lot because he's elusive and I'm not sure he's taking more hard hits than the average QB.
That reminds me, how is Mike White doing these days? 🤔🤣

Detroit certainly nailed their draft last year.
Kincaid and Torrence were big for us this year and the best 1,2 picks since Josh Allen. Maybe we're trending in the right direction as far as the drafting players.

I feel like in today's NFL it's a mistake to invest too heavily in DL. Elite offenses can almost totally neutralize pass rush either through scheming and releasing the ball in under 2.5 seconds(Purdy, Burrow, Tua) or just having an elusive QB that can extend plays with their legs(Allen, Mahomes, Lamar). Look how our divisional rounds ended the last 2 years. Burrow carved us up like a surgeon last year. This year neither Allen or Mahomes were sacked as both QBs simply avoided any pressure either used their legs or in Mahome's case ripped off huge chunk plays. Good DL will manhandle average teams but when facing the top of the top, they become ineffective. The positions are still important moreso for the sake of run defense IMO but in the Bills case we have guys on the edge who like to over pursue the QB and often leave huge openings to the outside. Mahomes, Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire each had 20+ yd runs against us last week.
If the Bills take DL too early in this next draft that would be a critical mistake IMO. Recent history has proven it doesn't matter how much you invest in those positions, their is huge diminishing returns when you face elite offenses in this league.

There are two schools of thought on this Rooney Rule business.
I personally agree that nepotism is a huge problem in the NFL coaching world but I would prefer teams just had a flat quota of qualified candidates that they must interview from outside the organization, not necessarily race based.

Why is Dak on the list and not Mahomes?

Physically, they're pretty much equal. Mentally, Mahomes has a significant edge.
Mahomes and the Bills would have beaten Allen and the Chiefs last week, and he definitely beats the Bengals last year. While I don't disagree that Mahomes mentally is more steadfast than Allen. We all know winning breeds confidence and confidence elevates standard of play. What if it was Allen that was nurtured into a winning organization to begin and went to AFCCG his first season as starter? If Mahomes started out on a middling team with all new coaching staff and had a bumpy start the first year or two, who knows if his confidence level would have ever elevated to where it is now.

The DT makes some sense if the Bills don't re-sign Jones. But I don't want defense in round 1.

I thought going into this year that it was a slight setback season mostly because how difficult our schedule looked and not so much because of lack of talent. I guess in the end the team performed above expectations or about as expected. Had we not sustained so many injuries down the stretch I think the team would have overperformed my expectations for the season. Looking at individual players, some have overperformed and a bunch more have underperformed this year. The good news is the players that have played above expectations are all the young guys. So we have a good foundation to build off of.
Overperformers
Dalton Kincaid
O'cyrus Torrence
Kalil Shakir
Terrel Bernard
James Cook
Josh Allen
Underperformers
Gabe Davis
Dawson Knox
Deonte Harty
Stefon Diggs
Von Miller
Greg Rousseau
Tyler Bass

I just pray Milano can return to his previous form and not a shell of his former self like Von Miller.

If Beane needs Brady to tell him his WR room needs major work then we need a new general manager.
Gabe was a great 4th round pick. Shakir is looking like a great 5th round pick. But the true difference makers at WR rarely come from day 3. He needs to spend major assets on drafting receivers.
Have the Bills receivers made a single downfield contested catch in all of the 2023 season? Watching other games week after week, every team has a guy that steps up and makes big time contested catches. It's happened against us numerous times this season. Even MVS had a great downfield sideline catch with Taron Johnson right on him for the Chiefs last night. We haven't had anyone aside from maybe Kincaid making those plays for us this year. We not only don't have a WR1 or WR2 that can get separation, they aren't catching in traffic and are dropping tons of balls when they aren't in traffic. It's kind of shocking we made it as far as we did considering.

There are FOUR major issues heading into the offseason that need addressing immediately, if not sooner:
- Von Miller. They HAVE to find some way to convince him to retire outright, he's done. Damn it beane, that contract is an albatross.
- Dawson Knox. He's wildly overpaid. Again, Pay cut or potential cut.
- Tre White. Waste of a roster spot at this point. Sucks, but that's reality in the NFL. His career in buffalo is over.
- Stefon Diggs. Has lost his quickness, and now he can't catch any more, either. He's done.
These four contracts are like lead shoes, and we're in a swimming pool. Gotta get creative and find a way to clear out this mess. Wish Beane luck. Of course my dream scenario is out there with Chicago, but that'll never happen. Ideally, I'd like to see us trade out of round one, for multiple twos and threes and start restocking.
Additional overpaid players.

He was getting the ball out as soon as he hit his drop all night.
On the rare occasions our coverage was solid, he was quick to get out of there.
There were very limited opportunities for the pass rush to be effective and a big reason for that is that we were missing both our starting LB's, both our starting corners and Rasul was out there with a peg leg. You can't expect a DL to get home consistently in 2 seconds or less.
All the more reason it's pointless invest so heavily in a DL when elite QBs will pick you apart anyway.

We needed a TE Bean drafted a TE.
Drafting a TE after signing a huge contract with another TE isn't the way. Knox with 1 catch for 4 yds. He got overpaid for his production.
