  1. This upcoming season is going to be a real down year. The turnover on defense is going to be a big factor and a rookie WR from the bottom of the 1st round isn’t going to be ready to make a huge difference right away. I’m not expecting to win the division. I think we’ll be fighting for the last wild card spot. The theme of the year will be young players getting important reps, and hopefully being future affordable starters.

The most important season for selling PSLs is going to be 2025 (new stadium opens the following season). So the Bills are going to take some cap medicine this upcoming season and then go ridiculously all-in the following season (think Rams burning all their draft capital for a push).

  2. Football is so random and comes down to a couple plays. Bills and Chiefs are evenly matched based on their matchups the past few years.

Bills beat the Chiefs in KC this year, but if Toney doesn’t line up Offside they probably lose.

If Dawkins holds up a fraction of a second longer and Allen hits Shakir in the endzone, there is a decent chance the Bills win.

We’ve had some bad luck on close games and coaching blunders in those tight moments.

Coaching is the #1 most important thing in these close games. What if Brady had schemed up a quick pass on 2nd down instead of running routes in the endzone? And then ran the ball on 3rd down, assuming it was 4-down territory? Bills likely kill the clock, get the first down and either win or give Bass a chip shot and we are likely going to OT. All coaching at that point.

Yes, supporting cast matters. But it’s debatable that KC’s had the better supporting cast, especially the last two years. People pick and choose whatever fits the argument. First it was that he had Tyreek Hill. When he was traded, the narrative shifted to it’s unfair that he has an all world TE. Now that Kelce is aging, and the WRs and tackles are weak, the narrative shifts to he has a better defense.

Let’s not forget that the Bills were favored in that game. Allen was at home and had more offensive talent around him. Not sure I’d say he had the harder task. Mahomes had to play a near-perfect game to win.

Also, there seems to be a lot of revisionism regarding Buffalo’s talent. Leading up to the divisional round, almost every Bills fan was predicting a win and a run to the SB. Only after the game did I see the claim that they lacked the talent to do it.

I don’t think it is revisionism. The Chiefs have had a better supporting cast on offense every year except this year, where it is more of a push.

Kelce is a first ballot HOF player and possibly the GOAT TE. Hill was an incredible talent for KC and might have won MVP this year with slightly better health with noodle arm Tua (so it wasn’t just Mahomes making him great). He has an outside shot at the HOF as well.

This year KC pass catchers = Bills pass catchers after Diggs’ inexplicable regression. Bills RBs were slightly better, but I would argue Pacheco was better at certain types of runs (e.g. if you *need* 2-3 yards he will run through arm tackles for them). Chiefs IOL was the best in the league. Bills offensive tackles were better than the Chiefs tackles.

Overall I would say talent on offense was a push. But the big difference is the KC defense and special teams was on a totally different level than the Bills. Especially in the playoffs when it counts (in fairness the defense was very injured in the playoffs, but it still resulted in a loss).

I’ve seen a lot of complaining on here about Allen’s supporting cast. Yet you think he’d kill it with worse tackles, much weaker receivers and a weaker running game?

Personally, I think it is more about coaching than supporting cast. I think Reid is a genius and 100x the coach McDermott is. I think the KC defense puts it together in the playoffs when they need to and the Bills defense chokes. I think KC special teams does what they need to and the Bills doesn’t.

Consider the Bills - KC playoff game from this year. Mahomes was throwing against Elam, Dane Jackson and Cam Lewis at Nickel. And Klein was coverage LBer on Kelce most of the game. All backups and healthy scratches parts of the season.

Allen was facing McDuffie, Sneed and Bolton. All Pro Bowl and All Pro caliber players. Supporting cast matters. One guy has a much harder job than the other in that game.

If you take out the KC games, Allen’s defenses have allowed 20 ppg in the playoffs. Only one team scored 30 and the Bills won that game.

Mahomes’ defenses before this season allowed over 25 ppg in the playoffs. They’ve allowed 30+ 5 times.

The KC games are like 1/3 of the games and over 1/2 of our losses. Why would you take those out? Do they not count?

I mean you literally have to ignore and throw out whatever the regular season ranking was for our defense.  It's all meaningless once the playoffs start.  That #1 or #3 ranked defense turns to mush real fast.  Other than Taron's pic6,  I can't remember one critical stop by our defense in 10 playoff games.  Pathetic, no wonder Andy fired his ass.

One time the corpse of Phillip Rivers ran out of time and couldn’t finish his game-winning drive. Impressive stuff by our defense there.

The Bills must have one of the worst playoff defenses the past 5 years right? Both in terms of yards allowed and points allowed per game?

I mean compared to the Chiefs defensive performance in the playoffs it isn’t even close, I know that.

We had the ball last and didn't score.

Because our kicker can’t hit a basic kick that an NFL kicker should make 95% of the time. Mahomes kicker put through a 57 yarder tonight (the longest FG in Super Bowl history), and without that the Chiefs probably lose the game. His special teams also blocked an extra point which was also the reason the game went to OT.

See how supporting cast and things like special teams matter?

That’s fine. I would prefer to have the best QB in football. I don’t think it’s crazy.

I love Josh. I think he’ll win in Buffalo. But the biggest mistake the Bills ever made was trading Mahomes to a team that would stand in our way every postseason.

The biggest benefit to drafting Mahomes is that we would no longer have to play Mahomes.

I really think Mahomes has benefitted greatly by having Reid in KC, and would have a fraction of the success in Buffalo (probably around Allen’s level of success).

Just look at his 2 TD passes today.

TD pass #1: Blown coverage, wide open receiver, possibly due to scheme.

TD pass #2: Wide open receiver with an easy pitch and catch 100% due to scheme. In fact, they ran the same play twice in the SB last year with the same result.

Do you really think Allen is incapable of throwing to his first read that has been schemed wide open? Because I think he could do that…

Little plays all add up. Especially against a team like KC which will cut your heart out. You can't miss an xp. You can't muff a punt. Your best player CMC can't fumble on what should've been an opening drive td.  Spags made adjustments after halftime.  Shanny not so much?

They didn’t even muff the punt (at least in the traditional way). Ball bounced off

the back of the heel of an engaged blocker.

Just monumental amounts of good fortune for the Chiefs.

KC actually did muff a punt, but the guy recovered it. (Again, good fortune…)

  11. Mahomes was incredibly meh tonight. His only TD in regulation was a gift given to him at the 11 yard line due to a special teams blunder. He had an ugly pick, and plenty of negative plays.

He had like 2 passes further than 10 yards the entire game that were impressive.

Of course.. Patty gets gift fumble and blown coverage. Now your lead for MVP.. yup I said it..

One of his TDs vs the Bills was a wide open blown coverage as well. Reid makes this guy look so much better than he is.
