I’m livid with that pick and fumble at the end of this game but you have a 3 score lead in the second half at home and you need to win. The defense choked away several chances and just could not get us off the field. Injuries or not that’s inexcusable and I’m losing a lot of faith in this staff. I hope McDermott takes over the play calling on defense but everyone just eats Fraizers D 24/7 so I’m sure it’s more likely he’d get given the key to the city. He can shove this soft shell passive BS up his ass. I want my defense to play with half the balls as our offense

In truth, I think the offense needs less balls and the defense needs more. I wonder if one can hand some to the other.

If we simply execute after the defense won the game … that’s a vintage Allen game.  He played really well.  Only pick was on a 4th down throw he had to let go or turn over on downs anyway.

However, the fumble and game ending pick invokes shades of Tennessee/Simmons last year and the issue that was glaring obvious against GB and NYJ.

Those two plays, justifiably so, tanked his game performance.

Though even after the fumble, his drive down the field also felt like typical Josh in a good way and what elite QBs should be doing. Then the offensive series before the pick was good Josh as well. But every play at the moment just feels like a screw up is round the corner.

My big frustration is sorting through “what is the blip”. Mahomes has all of these outstanding runs that you just think “what a weird/bad stretch”

Allen has a lot of film with showings like today.  But the stretch you listed him as “sorted out” is just 7 games.

Im certainly not all the way there. But it’s a creeping thought the more of these games start to reappear.

True, and I was thinking even if he does find a more secure footing will I just be sitting there wondering when the next boneheaded play or game is going to creep in? Is he forever going to be this - a thrilling player who sets the NFL alight at his best but buries the Bills at his worst.

We had 4 receivers running routes on the final play. When the ball left Josh's hand three of them were in the end zone .

We were on the 20 yard line.

    It was second down.

    We needed 10 yards.

Had plenty of time. And two timeouts.

    Wtf is Dorsey doing?

Of course you could also make the case it was genius because it left singletary wide open underneath on a check down for what would likely be a first down. And then we get back to Allen playing like absolute garbage the last 2.5 games.

    What a mess.

I do think we need some balance here. We put up 30 points. Josh looked far more like himself in a positive sense today than he did in the hellhole of next last week. He threw two gatbage interceptions plus had a horrible fumble (though the playcall was horrendous there) but he also made some fantastic plays as well. Would I say he was absolute garbage this week? Probably not. Not at his best and cost us the game but not absolute garbage.

ETA - if he looks really bad next week, this will be a sadly karmic post.

I’ve been super critical of McBeane.

I think you are wrong here. Allen has been a player who has refused to take what the defense has given him forever. He’s been trying to squeeze in ill-advised throws deep since he first took a snap in the NFL. Allen’s struggles the last 3 weeks have all been his refusal to throw underneath or see the field.

We have seen tons of second half JA17

This is the annoying thing - Josh seemed to have sorted this out. From the Patriots in the wildcard game through to the Chiefs in week five we looked smooth and settled. Then the second half against the Steelers, in hindsight, should have perhaps rung alarm bells and then the regression has set in. Why?

On the flip side... take a look at Mahomes' performances between week five and week thirteen last year. Outside of thrashing the Raiders his QBR didn't go above 57.4 (and only above 50.0 twice). He was sacked 16 times and threw eight interceptions. He recovered until the meltdown in the second half against the Bengals. So there's every reason showing Josh can recover.

As I said, the saddest thing is it looked like Josh had sorted this issue out.

That's what you want to believe.

You have been a staunch defender of the coaches for some time now...so I think it might be you that is on the wrong side here

Allen is a different player under this OC, and not in a good way. You must recognize that and have some tough conversations to fix it, or expect to receive criticism and blame.

It ultimately falls on McD...whether you are willing to accept it or not.

Or you can say Allen is regressing and not as good as we thought, but the evidence points to the coaching change this season

If anything Josh was a better player under this OC pre bye. Something happened at the bye, and I'm not sure what.

Seriously, Josh already puts way too much blame on himself after any loss!   He needs to get some weight taken off his shoulders, not more weight added to it.

Rubbish. He's the Quarterback, he's screwing up massively time and time again. The least he should do is own it, which he is. What he should be doing is learning from it, which he isn't.

This is not a good statistic, but we just have to hope Josh gets it back under control and this goes away.

What choice do we have?  He can get it back under control.

And if he doesn't, we won't have the season we all hoped for.

And then you focus on next year.

I'm pretty certain Josh will find his footing again, and despite my sarcastic reply, he is a talent and exciting player. But if he fails to do so (long way to go) we'll have some difficult questions to answer come the off season.

No. He's exciting. He was exciting today. Some of his runs. Some of his improv stuff. He's an exciting player. Exciting players also make msitakes.

If you are going to have an enigmatic player this is part of package I'm afraid.

Let a little fun into your life

Yes, I'm sure we'll hold a parade when we fail to make the post season because his 'exciting' play leads to boneheaded losses.
