A few things. The offense ran 21 plays the first half. 7 were in the first drive. Then they went 4, 2, 3, and 5. I wish the offense would sustain drives and get the run game going too.
Your hot take makes zero sense.
The way this offense sustains drives is non-conventional when wanting to dominate TOP. The usual approach would be to run more than throw, use every second of the play clock and don't take unnecessary risks. The strength of this offense is to go no huddle with risky plays, keeping everything uptempo.
Dorsey initiated this on the first drive, and then abandoned it. Why? McDermott and Josh both say they don't why it was moved away from - did neither think to ask, if so? Josh may not feel in a position to challenge but McDermott certainly is.
For e, a conventional approach on TOP offense feels like something which is more from McDemott's wheelhouse than Dorsey's. That's why I don't believe him when he "didn't know". And if it was really the case, as said, why didn't he ask and pull rank? Non-coaching minds all over can see the best approach so having a defensive minded Head Coach point it out shouldn't be unexpected.
Just now, VaMilBill said:Agree. However, Allen isn’t blameless. Turnovers, missed opportunities due locking in on Diggs, refusing to take dump offs. His mindset and preparation for games seems poor. And I gotta imagine that’s on him not getting himself ready and/or Ken not mentally prepping him
Can't imagine last night was either considering he came out hot. Changing the design of the offense after the first drive was the issue. When they returned to it in the second half suddenly Josh looked nearer his best again. Funny that.

No it doesn't, you weren't even talking about burning clock, you were talking about buying time for the defense to rest. Is it McDermott I don't know nobody on here does, but the idea that he somehow wants the offense to be conservative because he's a defensive coach is just ***** dumb. He's had aggressive offenses for multiple years in a row with Allen.
Because the defense has been in a better shape than now. And I think something may have changed after the Jets game as well, which was probably the first defeat of the Josh era which could be put solely on him.
If McDermott isn't dumb then it's Dorsey. One of them is getting it wrong and I'm finding it easier to believe it's McDermott than Dorsey. Either way the offense needs to be allowed to take the approach which suits it best.

Yeah our TOP against the Bucs was great when we ran the uptempo style offense, in fact it only started to suck when we became conservative and started to have 3 and outs and punted. So that makes no ***** sense.
Kind of proves my point. Generally the run game, huddles and short passes burns the clock more effectively than uptempo, no huddle - but not for the Bills. I think McDermott is stuck on conventional wisdom.-

Why the ***** would McDermott care about Dorsey playcalling aggressive? Did we not see the offenses that he greenlit the last 3 seasons?
Because I think he’s trying to protect the battered defense by asking the offense to pick up the TOP. The mindset needs to change; if the Bills need to win a shootout the fine. The offense is the supposed strength; let them play to their peak.-

I was responding to another poster who suggested we do this.
Collinsworth was saying the same thing. Let Allen play in a way that makes him the most dangerous. In the 4th quarter the Bengal's couldn't stop the Bills as they reverted to Allen running and throwing he ball all over the field. For the last 4 seasons this is how Allen has played and he hasn't missed a game. IMO putting a Governor on Allen is about Bean wanting Allan's career to last another 10+ years so he can use him as a glorified ATM machine. This way he can extend Allen and free up money to make more defensive free agent signings. Of course this only works from a CAP perspective if Allen remains elite over an extended period of time.
I wonder if there is an internal battle at Orchard Park about how Josh should approach the game. Some think he should keep to what works and take the mess with the magic whilst others want to try and develop him further to cut the mess and, if it affects the magic, so be it if reduces turnovers. It’s only supposition but, if so, it’s not surprising the offense is unpredictable and the use of Josh changes drive by drive. I know his old approach cost the Bills against the Jets but it’s won a load more games too. Is it time to call for original Josh and stomach the flies in the ointment?-

I actually agree with you from the perceptive that it might be the best move for Allen. The guy has given his all for the Bills and I doubt he's ever going to win let alone be in a Super Bowl with this franchise. At least not with McD & Bean running the show.
But if the Pegula's ever did decide to clean house I would want Allen to stay and let the new administration build their team around him.
And he’s being sent to Chicago? What’s Josh done to deserve that?I’m going to make a hot take. I don’t blame Dorsey. I think - with no proof - that McDermott is calling for the offense to slow the clock to protect the defense. Everyone knows what gets this offense into rhythm. No huddles, designed runs from Josh, fast play. It worked on the first drive so why abandon it? Is Dorsey that stupid? Some may say yes, but I don’t think so. McDermott baulked that the weakened defense would buckle so wanted the offense to slow down and pile up the TOP.
For me, McDermott has to accept the Bills best chance of winning games is accepting a shootout. Do that against the Pats and the Bills would have won. Defeat tonight in isolation is fine. I bet most of us had it down as a loss when the schedule came out. Probably expected to find the Rodgers-led Jets a problem in week one and the London trip a banana skin too. It’s the Pats defeat which means a surprise win is really required. It just didn’t come tonight.

Purdy is a fraud and I feel like everyone has just known this and pretended it’s not true because it’s a fun story lol
I'm not sure if he's the next big thing but Josh has had issues this season and he's in Year 6. A small run of bad form doesn't mean he should be written off. Do I think he's a future MVP? No. Do I think he could be a serviceable NFL QB? Yes.

There’s enough tape on Purdy now to know what he can/can’t do and tendencies. He’s gotta show that his mental game has another gear now.
Yeah, for all the criticism he can pull this around. He's only in his second year. Mahomes has looked poor today. Josh has had a shaky run. Burrow had an awful start to the year. And they're probably the 1-2-3 of QBs in the league.

Purdy's falling apart.

FFS, can any ref decision go against the AFC today?

Wow, the Niners defense have made a play!

If Mahomes is turned over, the defense seems steps up.

The Niners defense is embarrassing yet, in it's current state, probably better than the Bills.
Oh dear.

We get is zebras. From the moment you didn't spot the ball properly on the final play of regulation time.

if we need to worry about the jests winning, we aren't very good.....
The Bills have put themselves in a position where we have to think about other teams.
Bet this flag is against the Giants.

24 punts in Jets-Giants. Record is 27.

Three abysmal play calls. What was that???

Hate Dabolls decision to receive the ball.
Kickoff, stop the Jets offense, then get the punt and kick a game winning field goal.
The Giants defense hardly did a good job of stopping the Jets offense on the final drive.
Oh NOW the officials are seeing holds? Naturally not against the Jets.
-
First time today there's been a score of 43-20 in the NFL.
-
So the refs helped both the Dolphins and Jets out in a big way today.
The Giants are going to hate the AFCE.

The Jets are going to win this, aren't they?

Part of me finds this hilarious. Part of me is thinking... Week one. Week freaking one.

Make games shootouts. The defense cannot force turnovers for anything at the moment so let the offense take the preferred approach. If it means games are 38-35 instead of 24-18 so be it.
