My bias against McDermott is well documented.

Wondering how others view his post-season PC and recent interview calling critics narrow minded. He also stated its hard to win in the NFL. I recall a prior HC pilloried on this site for saying the exact same words.

My take on the PC was that he was very defensive. Without even being asked. He launched into a defense of his tenure as coach even dating back to prior seasons.

And now he calls critics narrow minded for wondering if the Bills will win a SB with him as HC. You have to belive at this point the thought has crossed Beane and Pegula's mind. He's trying to defend at best status quo to perhaps taking a step or two back from 13 seconds.

Then the most ridiculous statement of all.

"We're looking for Josh to really be that face of the franchise, like he's been, and continue to evolve."

I mean WTF. What team has he been coaching? Does he think Hyde and Poyer were the face of the franchise?? Is he trying to lay blame on Allen? Without Allen McDermott might be coaching DBs in Kansas City.  Was Allen on the field when the defense crumbled multiple times against Denver,Philadelphia, and others. KC only stopped themselves in the playoff game. If not for a goal line fumble the Bills are not even close in that game.

It may not seem that I'm open minded but I really try. I've gave McDermott praise many times last year.

So what does the board think?

For those that crucified Jauron how do you take the It’s hard to win in the NFL line?

For those that defend McDermott, what do you all think?

I’m not a Sean supporter but he’s not going anywhere barring a total collapse( missing playoffs). To be totally objective, Sean saved his job with a fine performance in the last 8 games. He dumped Dorsey, installed Brady and got Cook and Kincaid involved in the offense. He acquired Douglas and got better play out of Dodson and Bernard. I think it’s realistic to expect improvement next season with more explosive skill players (Samuel, the 1st or 2nd rd.receiver and continued development of Cook and Kincaid) along with better DL play with Johnson, a full season with DQ and a contribution from Miller. I think our secondary will improve( Edward’s, a highly drafted safety and better use of Rapp)  The players love the guy and play hard for him. He should be commended for being bold enough to hold Josh accountable. We need Josh to have a strong HC and not have a yes man. Now some of his game day decisions have been mind blowing but hopefully he improves.

  2. Established pass rushers are unavailable in FA  to cap challenged teams but there is no reason not to expect more pressure and sacks from Miller, 2 years removed from knee surgery and Rousseau/ Epenesa could have more production. Pressure from the tackles should be as good as last year or better with Eddie, DQ and Adrian. Defense should not be a problem if we stay healthy.

  3. Bills defense will be better than last year because Milano is such a huge factor and Bernard should be better in his 2nd year starting. Hyde and Poyer were great Bills but their best years are behind them. We need youth at safety and Douglas will be better than any corner we had in 3 years and he’ll be here a full season. If Miller can give us improved play, which shouldn’t be unrealistic because he stunk last year, the DL should be better. Better pressure, better run defense with a healthy DQ, Milano and improved depth with Johnson, and a better secondary with Edward’s, Douglas and a round 1 or 2 safety or corner.

  4. All I keep thinking about is how the organization keeps putting this guy on a pedestal as a great leader and Josh’s brother, etc.  He sees issues with cap constraints and foundational players being cut and naturally he’s looking for his off ramp. No taking a step back for Steph. I say this guy let us down against KC. He was mediocre for the last 9 games and his best years may be behind him. Use the Beliceck model of getting value for aging stars a year early rather than seeing him diminished and become a malcontent.

won’t happen. We’d need to add a few picks to get a 1st

He’s a top ten receiver and he’s only 30. Receivers are the 2nd or 3rd highest paid position players and a team with plenty of cap space would think Diggs could make their young QB into another Josh. We’d need at least a 1st and another high pick to move him.

Posting a random tweet that could mean anything is giving the Bills a middle finger?

Fact is - young players across the NFL post random, weird stuff all the time. Take Rasul Douglas for example. Ever looked at his Twitter?

The difference between Diggs and other people is he's a Superstar. Your run of the mill NFL player posts something random - no one cares. Mega star Diggs tweets something and everyone loses their minds and the media runs nuts with it.

It’s two off-seasons in a row  with the cryptic comments and if he plays like he did the last half of the season, low energy and low production, we lose the opportunity to turn him into a couple of good young players. I know it’s hard to picture this team without Diggs but the Patriots defined their dynasty by offloading their stars a year before they became regular players.

  7. I’ve always dismissed his comments as the mindless ramblings of a  frustrated alpha looking for attention on his x account. Now, however he is giving Bills fans and management the finger with indications he’d like to be gone. His performance at the most crucial moments last season was not worthy of paying his bloated contract and keeping a malcontent. Let’s get a 1st rounder and another high draft choice for him while he’s still got top ten receiver value.

  8. He knows the system and has a role. I don’t remember him being on the positive end of too many plays though. Bills fan should get ready for a procession of dumpster dive signings like this and Morris. If Beane signs a skill position low end driftwood player, that’s a problem. We need a few impact guys.

  9. The Bills are a team that have too many holes caused by going for it and missing,  like the Rams 3 seasons ago. They failed miserably with the Miller signing and their suspect cap management forced Beane to offload some productive but older players. They still have Josh, Cook, Kincaid,Diggs, Milano, and Oliver but the other winning type players are more like solid role players, far from elite. Beane must find a quality secondary and 2 big time receivers and an edge rusher in FA and the draft. If Diggs is not the receiver of previous years, as opposed to the 2nd half of last season, getting past KC, Cinn, Baltimore will be improbable. Getting to the playoffs is great but Josh deserves to be surrounded by a better roster.

  10. They screwed him up at Pittsburgh with those amateur OCs and killed his confidence. Josh brings out the best in him and he could be built back up to be a QB that can use his legs and play well in the pinch. Just remember, the guy put the hapless Bears in the playoffs.

  11. They’re better but that doesn’t mean we can’t turn our fortunes in the near future. The last game was winnable and we play them tough every year. The problem has been more defensive shortcomings than not being able to score enough. We missed important players ( Milano, a healthy Douglas and Miller)this year and will hopefully be difference makers next time. Remember the Colts went through the same frustrating thing with Brady until they found a way. With this core our time is coming.

  12. One or two more plays must be made by the Bills in a big spot. It’s either a skill player or a play call that will put us over the hump. The windows wide open and my guess is this team will show the winning pedigree in the regular season in the next few seasons. No need to panic. The core is in place. The Miller signing has not paid dividends yet. Maybe it’s a big sack like his game changing play that put the Rams over the top that will be the difference.

  13. I love what Diggs brought to the offense giving them an edge as well as big time production. Unfortunately he has become more of distraction along with less separation and production. He probably needs a new challenge and we need a less expensive, explosive threat at receiver. Take Belichek’s approach and get max value a year before his trajectory points down.
