    De-licious.

Ah, that's why PFF took so long to apologize to Josh Allen. Damn, it's like they wanted him to fail.

So no more trades then either?

This is a collectively bargained aspect of sports. The PLAYERS signed off on the deal, because they know a healthy league with 32 financially viable teams is best for the largest number of guys. It also is something the players agree to in order to get the owners to share a larger % of revenues.

Draft goes away=% of revenues players get goes down significantly.

Plus, there's only so many spots on the Bills and Chiefs rosters.

Florio will always see the cloud in the silver lining. Last year he didn't want the draft to happen, training camp to happen, the season to happen, and he latches onto endlessly covers any negative story about the NFL.

You can negotiate a no trade clause in your contract, if you so choose.

    How would this eliminate Parity?

The best players are going to spots (AKA QB's) where they have a chance to start right away.

They arn't going to sign a huge deal to be a backup somewhere for a team with an already good QB.

    People are convinced that:

    A) parity is a good thing (because no one looks back fondly on dynasties)

    B) the cap and draft are the only reason parity exists (untrue with the cap, dunno about the draft).

Is it "fair" that people who play games for a living earn more than teachers, fire fighters, law enforcement officers, soldiers, etc?

Man, this is an argument 13 year olds make. I specifically remember debating this at school when I was young.

Answer is: the NFL makes a lot of money. Who is responsible for making that money? The players provide the product. Where would you have the bulk of that money go if not to the players?

  5. 10 hours ago, Doc said:

Is it fair that they make millions to play and game for half a year?  No.  Therefore if they think that not being able to choose where they play is unfair, too bad.

Yes, it is fair. They possess skills and talent that is deemed worth what they are paid, just like any other career. NFL owners are not bleeding money because they have to pay their players. These guys can do things that a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of people are able to do.

Just because it's a lot of money, and more than you or I will ever see in a lifetime, doesn't make it "unfair".

This thread is one of the dumbest in recent memory. But I guess that's what we do as we count the hours until Thursday night.

The draft has been around for decades, and the players have been fine with it for decades, because they know that without it their cash cow dies a quick death. The draft provides hope for the bottom dwelling franchises, allowing their fans to at least feel that they might contend in a few years, by building a team of talent at the top of the board. Without the draft, players would gravitate to only warm weather cities, with owners who have bottomless checkbooks, and the league would become defunct within 5 years.

    Explain soccer in Europe, then.

This is what Kyle said to the media a couple weeks ago about whether Kirk Cousins (gross) is his prototype QB:

Kirk Cousins, I mean, that’s just, everyone knows my history with Kirk,” Shanahan said. “Thought we’d have a chance to get him here in free agency and I would have loved to have him in free agency until Jimmy came along the year before, because I thought we could have won with him, just like Minnesota has. I think Kirk does a good job for whatever team he plays for every year. There’s a number of quarterbacks like that, but that’s the only one I’ve been associated with because people thought I was trying to bring him here, which I was at the time. It’s not because that’s how you draw it up. If you’re going to draw it up, you’re going to draw the biggest, fastest, strongest and best quarterback in the pocket. So, I think that’s pretty ridiculous to say that, but I also tell you, I love Kirk. I know I’m not allowed to talk about other players, but Kirk’s a hell of a player and a lot of people would be lucky to have a quarterback like that.”

This sounds like a coach intent on not winding up with a quarterback like Cousins. Shanahan’s reference to how he’d “draw it up” if he could at quarterback lends belief to the idea the 49ers trade up to No. 3 in this year’s draft to give themselves maximum control over who they pick. Trading three first-round picks puts Shanahan in a position to essentially pick the QB he wants – or in a position to “draw it up.””

You know, they say Kyle Shanahan is an offensive guru but his favourite QB is Kirk Cousins. 2+2 is equalling 5 here.

These players are CHOOSING to enter a sports draft to make millions of dollars...it’s not like they are being forced into slave labor at gun point...I’d say being drafted is a privilege...👍

That's completely missing the point. It's the same as you getting a degree in engineering and then you just declare "I want a job" and a company takes you into their employ. You get no say, even if the company in question has an awful reputation. It's definitely not fair to the players, but doing it a different way seems impossible as all the top talent would just sign with the best teams.

This is a great video of Josh’s best throws from last season. In watching it I was reminded of something that occurred to me a few times during games last fall. After he catches a TD, Gabriel Davis drops the ball quicker than any WR that I’ve ever watched. It’s almost as if he’s playing an imaginary game of “Hot Potato” with himself.

I worried on a few occasions that the TD would be nullified due to the NFL’s overly-complex “what constitutes a catch” rules.

Did anyone else also think that maybe he should hold onto the ball for an extra second or two just to be safe?

I'm not so worried about that as him pulling a DeSean Jackson prior to the goal line.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Tom Brady blasts 'dumb' new NFL uniform number rule

TAMPA, Fla. -- While several NFL players expressed excitement this week over a newly adopted rule that allows more flexibility when it comes to the numbers worn on players' jerseys, Tampa Bay Buccaneersquarterback Tom Brady is not at all a fan.

Brady took to Instagram on Thursday to express his dissatisfaction with the rule change, believing it will cause safety issues for the offense, such as identifying blitzers or who's the middle linebacker of the defense.

Good luck trying to block the right people now!" Brady posted on his Instagram story, with an image of the new numbers permitted. "Going to make for a lot of bad football!"

Brady then posted a screen capture of a story about the rule and directed it to the NFL and NFL Players Association, with the words "DUMB" and "Why not let the Lineman wear whatever they want too? Why have numbers? Just have colored jerseys...why not wear the same number?...DUMB."

The NFL's new rule, adopted Wednesday with a number of other proposals, allows quarterbacks, punters and place-kickers to wear numbers 1-19, defensive backs 1-49, and then running backs, tight ends and wide receivers 1-49 and 80-89. Offensive linemen can wear 50-79, defensive linemen 50-79 and 90-99, and linebackers 1-59 and 90-99.

Part of me feels like Brady is trolling.

A buddy of mine lives in Quebec just over the border from Vermont. He tells me the dirty secret of Quebec is it's nearly half English speakers but the government ignores that fact.

Absolutely. You can live completely comfortably in Montreal as an Anglophone, I have a friend who lives there as one, in fact. Head up to places like Quebec City and you are treated like the scum of the earth for not speaking French, first hand experience. I think the fact so many English speakers live in QC is the reason they are so overprotective of their French culture. And they probably feel like their most important city has been lost to the English.

I am not sure why the reactions to your post are what they are. The Argos bleed money, but go even to Hamilton and you'll find huge support. Not to mention the popularity of the CFL out West in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and even Alberta. Not sure about BC. Canadians DO love the CFL, just not in Toronto.

They aren’t close to expanding.  All I am saying is that given they can’t get any more US eyes on TV sets, growth in revenue and tv dollars would be from international expansion.  That would include Canada when the time comes is all I am saying.

In Ontario, the NFL is already more popular than the CFL. I have friends who are Lions fans, Bengals fans, Packers fans, Patriots fans, Cowboys fans, etc. Everyone here already has a team they are loyal to that they would not dump in favour of a Toronto team. I know I wouldn't, and god help me if they start up that nonsense about moving the Bills to Toronto again.

DL -  Addison,  Oliver, Phillips -   Are all these players playing better than Wallace

We have a bunch of players that are not strength of the team.

Cody Ford is a bit of a wildcard right now

    Boettger isn't a starter

    Yes

Yes, was out of position, isn't a starter.

Did Diggs get his in the AFCCG?  Did Hill get his in the Super Bowl?

maybe the correct word isn’t to “stop” a great player, but to limit them and don’t allow them to dominate.

tampa was able to negate them because the KC OL was a sieve

6-77 is exactly what I'd agree is not allowing them to dominate, but that is certainly a fine game for Diggs. He's had worse, specifically against LAR, LAC and even the second game against the Jets.

Kelce still got 133 yards, and Hill had a similar game as Diggs. So clearly the work was done to not try to prevent them from getting the ball, but limit the impact when they do. 133 yards and the Chiefs didn't score a TD, that's pretty remarkable. The Bills also had consistently garbage field position for most of that game.

Kelce in 2 games against TB had 18 catches and 200 yards receiving....

People really need to stop obsessing over how to "stop" Kelce. He's one of the best TEs ever paired with one of the best QBs ever. You can not stop them. Do you not think teams tried to stop Diggs? The elite of the elite always get theirs, and we already have one of the best coverage LBs in Matt Milano. Kelce is a 6'-5", 250 pound player who can turn and run like a guy half his size. Limit the YAC and do your best to eliminate the long pass. That's all you can do. If the Chiefs want to score 30, they mostly just do. If Josh had been given the time Mahomes was, that game would have been a slugfest. Idk how TB was able to completely negate KC's offense, but I doubt it will happen again.

Who cares why it was abandoned? No laws have been broken. Diggs can afford it, even if he had to replace the entire truck.

There's literally nothing else to talk about, other than the 567th mock draft that just came out.

With consideration to being a team good enough to be a Super Bowl contender this coming season, I was thinking about a player that COULD BE AVAILABLE TO THE BILLS AT 30, and would have the most impact in improving the starting lineup to achieve a Super Bowl appearance. I’m leaning towards Travis Etinene. Is there someone else?

A CB needs to be taken at 30, imo. That is the team's most glaring need. I don't really see DE as nearly the weakness outside coverage is. I know it's greedy to want 2 Tre Whites...but I want 2 Tre Whites. Even if Newsome and Farley don't make it to 30 (shocking if either one does) there are a bunch of CBs with speed and skill available. That's where we have to trust the Bills' ability to develop players.

    3 hours ago, TheBeaneBandit said:

One of the top 5 CBs honestly. ETN wouldn't get playing time year one because he would get Allen killed in pass pro.

If your RB is the one getting your QB killed in pass pro, you have bigger issues than your RB's ability to block.

This is a ridiculous assertion.  We've had a top defense until last year when some injuries and opt-outs hurt a lot more than any draft or FA misses did.

And frankly, I'm much happier that they have a top offense and a middling defense vs having a top defense and a middling offense

It's a much stronger and sustainable brand of football.

Would you prefer that we bring another GM in to make these decisions???  Again - ridiculous

The defense last year wasn't even bad so idk why people complain about it so much. I guess I understand we're used to being some alternate version of the Bears, but it's not like the defense was below average.

    Mahomes had 19 in 2020.

What I noticed in watching both is that, though they counted Allen having two more, many of Allen's were nearly uncatchable or 50/50 balls or simply an amazing play by the defender (the Colts DB laying out). Almost all of Mahomes' drops were basically in the defender's breadbasket. I can't believe that many were dropped.

Unsure if I'm being biased here.
