  1. Living in Skins country I have had more than my fair share of opportunities to watch them under Campbell. I am not impressed. I would not give anything up for him. The Bills would be better off making do with what they have if they are unable or unprepared this year to go after a true franchise QB this year. Campbell is just the same dog we already have, with different fleas.

  2. i read an article recently (looking for the link) regarding the jobs with the least amount of accountability. Of course, Weatherman was on there. But the #1 job where the employee is held least accountable was "Sports Expert". These guys are just chatting and gossiping and guessing. And when they're wrong, no big deal. It's like The View, for guys.

    Classic!

  3. True. However, neither is close to being worth the 9th pick. Neither will go before 18... and Clausen will probably drop further.

So, if the Bills want either, all they have to do is trade down...and they could even trade down twice and pick either one and land themself an extra 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder, or more.

Clearly you do not like either of these guys - fair enough - but both will be long gone before #9. Seattle and Washington will very likley want a QB given who their new leaders are. Hasslebeck is done, and Campbell is not going to be the man in DC. Even Cleveland may go QB and try to trade one of their current stiffs. Most scouts have both Bradford and Clausen as at least top ten and Bradford top 5. I think Shanahan goes with Clausen.

  4. I used to work w/ Dan Meyer when I lived in Buffalo, and not only is he a solid writer and stand up guy, but he knows his sports, especially baseball and football. Don't question his integrity or call him a hack, because you sound like a fool.

First, I did not question his integrity, just indvating my lack of interest in his opinion. I am sure he is nice, stand up guy. Sorry for assuming someone with the major credentials of writing for community newspapers should not be taken seriously. Just another fan offering his opinions without substance.

  5. I must admit that I've only watched Lefevour in one game, so my opinion of him is still open. Though based on what I've read on three or four sites, I probably would want him in the 3rd..if that.

Accuracy: Runs a spread with a lot of four and five-receiver sets. High completion percentage reflects the offense's quick, short passes, but generally puts the ball where he wants to when set in the pocket. Good timing with initial receivers on stop routes. Puts the ball to the outside shoulder on sideline patterns and end zone fades. Accuracy drops when on the run, however; usually throws high or wide, even when square to the line. Must improve his ability to hit receivers on the numbers and leading them on crossing routes.

Arm Strength: Lean quarterback with very average arm strength. Floats deep balls down the sideline and over the middle. Steps into most throws but still does not put a lot of zip on passes over 10-12 yards. Deep outs are wobbly, late and inaccurate.

Setup/Release: Sets his feet after receiving the snap and usually throws from a balanced position. Adjusts well to poor snaps in any direction. Will get happy feet if his offensive line is leaky - but is tough enough to stand and deliver in the face of pressure. Resets his feet when possible if on the move within or out of the pocket. Fair quickness on his release. Sometimes tries to unload too soon, getting even less than on the ball than on his normal passes.

Reading Defenses: Throws from the shotgun almost exclusively and typically throws quickly to his primary read, which won't happen at the next level. Must learn how to read from the line and adjust while dropping back. Looks to sideline for pre-snap adjustments. Looks off the safeties, but not often enough. Will make poor decisions if not going to his first target - throwing late over the middle or forcing a ball into tight coverage.

On the Move: Fair mobility within the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield and will move around to find a passing lane. Accuracy and spiral is lacking when moving to his left, especially when he cannot reset his feet. Shows the awareness to dump off the ball under pressure. Tough former running back with some elusiveness and vision who will get first downs and more if unchecked. Uses his height to lunge for first downs. Puts ball in outside hand. Will tuck and run too quickly at times.

Intangibles: Four-year starter who helped the Chippewas become a bowl-worthy program. Well-respected in the locker room. Academic All-American for Region IV in 2008.

    NFL Comparison: Charlie Frye, Raiders

Great. A QB with questionable arm stength, inaccurate over 10 yards downfield, who has not had to learn to read defenses or throw from under center. Just what the Bills need to add to their stable of weak armed, flair pass specialists. I ma really psyched about this guy!

  6. I am sure there is a reason Joey Porter was riding the bench last year. Perhaps his notoriously bad attitude and me first perspective? George Edwards was his linebackers coach - no chance he ends up in Buffalo and that is a good thing. I would be more inclined to take a chance on Thomas as a reserve/pass rush specialist in the 3-4 alignment. He only started 11 games last year and only had 34 total tackles and 3 sacks - clearly no longer a dominent force or every down player. It would make sense for the Patriots to cut him given the big contract he signed. For a reasonable price he would bring some veteran leadership and knowledge of the 3-4 defense.

  7. I've read abotu the Parcells 3-4 and the other types as well and have to think that from Edwards' comments, the Parcells defense will be the goal in 2 or 3 years, while in the meantime they will go with something they have the personel for. I have a gut feeling (especially if Schobel returns) that they will play a one gap 3-4 with some two gap principles when it makes sense and if they have the personel. I see them trying to get a rotational NT for now that they can use in obvious running situations and then go light on the DL in passing situations. Also bet Schbel plays with his hand on the ground in passing situations. I have a feeling it will look a lot like the defense we play now, jus twith more varieties of blitzes - maybe like what they played under GW.

I agree with this. It will take time to develop the personnel. I expect a mix of both sets depending on situations. As for the linebackers, Poz and Mitchell would be OK in the middle (McClain would be nice though) The priority is a NT that can keep the center and and a guard off the inside backers or it does not matter who plays the middle spots. A weak D-Line dooms the 3-4. Unfortunately, the Bills could not accomplish this with 4 lineman for the most pasrt in recent years. What we really need is some creativity, agressiveness, and willingness to play to the strengths of the personnel on hand and it sounds like that is the philosophy of both Edwards and Gailey.

  8. He is putting out a mock draft. I am sorry, I should not make fun of people who don't know football, but produce mock drafts. 10 lashings please.

I guess you miss the point. Try a little civility and dial down the unwarrented supiority complex and maybe people will not think your just being jerk.

  9. The Steelers have actually been a model of how to manage free agency and the cap and still remain competitive. They do go after free agents, but never the high profile big ticket guys. They have scored with quite a few. They have let some some of their FAs go, but have hung onto key core players. This is the model that Nix has stated matches his philosophy, and is all that makes sense really for the Bills. Hopefully Whaley can bring some of those skills to the Bills front office.

  10. I have been a Bills fan since the very beginnings in the 1960's. I have been through the AFL glory days, the Super Bowl years and all the lean years as well. Lately I have been reading this forum and it makes me sick. If you guys hate the organization so much, then it is time to find another team. All the ridiculing and ignorance does not speak well for those of you that insist on taking that attitude. I want the team to win as much as anyone. I am as frustrated as you are, but part of being a fan is sticking behind your team in good times and bad. These are the bad ones. If you want to leave then go ahead and find another team, but please stop polluting this site with your negativity. As for Chan Gailey, from what I have read, he is a good man and a good coach. He has had a winning record in every stint as a head coach except one year in Division II college football. He has coached in all facets of the game and been successful doing so. If I am a GM and look at coaching resumes, this guy is highly qualified and certainly the most well respected candidate among other coaches of those that were considered. He is a man of character and integrity. For my money, it was a good hire. Screw the national media. Since when do they know anything? Especially about Buffalo. If you are worried about what others think of the city and the franchise, then you will never be happy, because there will always be bigots that ridicule Buffalo, because they don't know any better. I have a suggestion. Enjoy the games. Even the ones we lose. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it painful? Yes. Guess what, that's all part of living and breathing with your team. Go Bills!

+1 Although refusing to devolve into suicidal negativity will get you ripped around here.

DE Bills Fan "Maybe you are happy to continue to root for a loser, but a lot of people have had enough (me included!!!)"

Thats your right. My right to wonder why you do not just go away then.

  11. There is no way Clausen lasts until #9 but if he does the Bills need to take him. You build around a franchise QB and he has that ability. You can not count on getting another chance. Just dreaming though because there is no way he gets past Washington and Seattle. (not to mention St. Louis) Kiper is off base here in my opinion.

  12. I also do not get why people are automatically believing this. Just because Tim Graham said it? The AFC East blogger for ESPN? Please. He has been right at the top of unsubstantiated rumour mongering over the past week. Get some perspective people.

That aside, I never liked Marty as a coach. He was an absolute disaster in DC - control freak extraordinaire. This would not be a good fit. Move on.

  13. You can continue to support this team, but you're relying strictly on blind faith at this point. The Buffalo Bills are a business. When a business churns out a crap product, they lose customers. Only people who are blind continue to purchase crappy products. The Bills are no different. They're a defective product. It's time to stop buying.

Thats fine - I understand. I gave up my season tickets when Ralph fired Chuck Knox, and I was not alone. (I did rebuy the year before Levy was hired though so got great seats) Everyone is free to stop supporting the team. I choose to wait and see and look expectantly forward to a newly competitive team. I am not delusional, I just choose to be a fan. I will be right there bitching and complaining if things go poorly, but I just do not see the doom and gloom others do right now.

  14. Name them

1968 - 1972 records from 1&12 to a best of 4&9; Joe Collier, Harvey Johnson, John Rausch as coaches

    1976, 77 2&12, 3&13 Jim Ringo

    1982 - 1986 4&5 (strike), 8&8, 2&14 (twice) 4&12 Kay Stephenson, Hank Bullogh

The brief respites from pain in all these years were the glory days of OJ in the early 70's and the turn of Chuck Knox in the late 70's. He finally broke the string of 20 straight defeats to the Dolphins in 1980.

Marv Levy was hired in 1987.

That should bring you up to date.

  16. At least the negativity is realistic. I guess you're a fan of pointless optimism?

No, I am a fan of the Buffalo Bills. That does not mean I agree with everything they do, and certainly does not mean I am happy about the decline of the team over the past 10 years. It does mean that I am at least willing to reserve judgment until we have a staff in place, we go through the initial free agency period and the draft, and just maybe, until they play an actual game 9 months from now. If I did not feel that way, I would cease to be interested in the Bills and probably the NFL as a whole. Believe it or not, there have been worse times to be a Bills fan.

  17. It's not resentment. It's just boredom. Bored of reading the same stupid crap, mostly from people who just joined TBD in the last week. How many times do have to read that "I'm done as a fan" or "Ralph is cheap" or "the front office is a joke"? If you feel that way, then fine! You're entitled to that. But there comes a point when you ask if it's so freakin' bad why are you still here???

Maybe you need to vent to everyone. Maybe you are a masochist and like pain. Maybe you are just a negative person that feeds on misery. Whatever. But it's boring.

    PTR

+1 Sure people have a right to vent, but it is really tiring wading through the pointless negativity. Pick another team, or go back to playing Madden. (and yes I know I can choose not to read TSW, but sometimes there is actually intelligent conversation and useful information)

  18. Someone actually asked that question? (I was multi-tasking during the PC and didn't catch every single word.)

Jeez, a better answer might have been, "Well, I'm only 3 months older than Bill Belichick, a month younger than Norv Turner, 2 years younger than Dick Jauron, 5 years younger than Wade Phillips, 6 years younger than Tom Coughlin...should I keep going, or does someone else have a more intelligent question?"

Agreed. Of all the stupid questions asked, this was probably the worst. I could not tell who it was.
