1. As I understand this cap mess:

Our cap position may have changed because next year could be an uncapped year all Not-Likely-To-Be-Earned (NLTBE) bonuses that would normally count towards next year must count on this years cap.

If the labor agreement gets extended then they would count towards next years cap...

Unlike LTBE, the NLTBE bonuses are not counted in the cap until the incentive clauses are reached.

  2. Who cares about a WONDERLIC score? All I care about is championships. Which is what he brought to the University of Texas and what he'll bring to whatever NFL team takes him in this year's draft. Oh how I wish Buffalo would have lost a few more games last year so that we'd be in a position to take this guy.

Bills may not need to lose few more games to be able to draft Young. Don't be surprised that Young is the third QB off the board and still available at our #8 pick.

  3. You seemed to of glossed over the fact that the dude had over 30 less catches than Moulds, who missed 3 games and had Losman and Holcomb throwing to him.

    611948

First, Moulds didn't miss 3 games last season. He only missed one game.

Second, Lloyd had nine 20+ yard catches and three 40+ yard catches last season. Moulds only had five 20+ and one 40+ catches. Lloyd YPC was 15.3 and Moulds was 10.1. It's debatable whether number of catches is more important than YPC.

Third, it may sound impossible, the 49ers QBs actually played much worse than Holcomb and Losman last season.

    QB ratings:

    Alex Smith: 40.8 (7 starts)

    Ken Dorsey: 66.9 (3 starts)

    Tim Rattay: 70.3 (4 starts)

    Cody Pickett: 28.3 (2 starts)

    Holcomb: 85.6 (8 starts)

    Losman: 64.9 (8 starts)

Fourth, this is just a suggestion, it has nothing to do with "gloss over". Marv may even have no chance to sign Lloyd if 49ers gives him a quality tender.

  4. How about Brandon Lloyd of 49ers?

    http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396021

With Alex Smith, Ken Dorsey, Tim Rattay, and Cody Pickett threw to him last season, Lloyd still managed to get 733 receiving yards and 5 TD , which is comparable to Mould's 816 yards and 4TD.

Lloyd already played at the no.1 WR position at 49ers, against opposite team's best cornerback. More important, he is only 24 years old. He may not be the ultimate no.1 receiver for us, but he should be able to handle the job before giving it to Evans.

With the 4.5M cap money saved by cutting Moulds, Marv should be able to sign Lloyd easily.

  5. I know there are two types of incentive clauses - those deemed "likely to reach" and those deemed "unlikely to reach". Those that are "likely to be reached" are counted in the cap, the unlikely ones aren't until they are reached.

    609756

Right, only the LTBE (likely-to-be-earned) incentives are counted in the cap. Also, if the LTBE clauses turns out not being reached in the end of the season, teams will get extra cap in the following year.

I remember Vikings was awarded 10 million cap space two years ago because many players didn't reach their LTBE clauses. Vikings then used that extra 10 million cap to sign A.Winfield with a contract having no signing bonus and a big first-year roster bonus (only counted against the cap in the same year).

  6. OK, so you dont accept bad calls- what happens then.....that is not a plan- do you fire all the experienced guys and start over?

    599757

No, I voice out my feelings about bad calls. I sent mails to NFL and emails to their website. One mail won't do the job, two mails probably won't either, but when there're more and more complains sent to NFL, maybe someday it'll cause NFL to improve the officiating.

You can be negative to sit on your couch and accept the bad calls. :( But there're still fans who want NFL games to get better. If you do nothing, nothing will happen. If you try, things may change.

  7. You can be positive to critize the bad calls and hope NFL will do something.

    Or

You can be negative to accept that bad calls are just part of the game.

whining?? No, these are just fans who want to have better officiating in their beloved games. Besides, why whining when most of the people on this board are not even 'hawks fans?

People will continue to watch NFL even there're bad calls, but no doubt that the officiating can be improved and the game can be better

  8. I'd rather stay put or moveup- we need some studs to help rebuild the team. quality over quantity

    598636

If we only have one or two holes to fill, we should trade up. But this is not the case, we should trade down and get more picks unless a stud drops to #8.

  9. Currently Colts are just under the projected 2006 cap, and have James, Wayne, Thorton, Brock, and Morris to re-sign. It's almost impossible to use franchise flag on James again, since it was used on James last year and they need to pay James 10% or 20% more than his 2005 salary.

They may choose to franchise Wayne, but that'll be the NO.1 WR money. Do they really want to tie so much money on Manning, Harrison, Wayne, and Freeney? It'll also be difficult to sign Wayne a long term deal, because there're only few top FA receivers this year, teams need a no.1 WR and don' want TO will presude Wayne hard. Franchising Wayne and trade him for draft picks may be their best solution.

Manning's cap hit will be sky high starting from 2008 (assume there'll be a cap). I believe it'll be 16M in 2008, 20M in 2009, and 25M in 2010. Colts won't be able to keep all their top FAs, or they are bound to a cap hell in near future.

  10. the team got progressively worse each year as more of 'his' players began to make up more of the team.

Favre pulling games out of his A$$ skewed those records and he finally hit the wall this year

they were terrible in the playoffs- if success is a winning season than getting spanked in the 1st round of the playoffs than yes they were very successful under sherman. (and please don't rebut that they made into the 2nd round round once or twice because my point is once in the playoffs they did little except get embarrassed)

look, i really don't have avendetta against sherman but it appears the board is going overboard thnikng this guy is some great coach- he was an average coach at best and a bad G.M. at best

maybe he will do better in buffalo but my hopes are not high.

    574680

Just a reminder: Coaches with good playoff records are either retired or already having HC jobs.

  11. Yes, but if everything happened exactly the same way, except that a Colts player touched the defender with his left pinky finger, the call on the field would've been correct.

Dumb rule?  Maybe.  But can you really fault the refs for such a fine distinction, especially since the replay officials talk to the on-field ref.  Maybe they were even the ones feeding the ref the false (but nearly true) information.

    570938

I don't think Mike Pereira's statement said that if a Colts player touched Polamalu, it's an incomplete pass. He basically stated two things:

    (1) Polamalu held the ball long enough to have the possession.

    (2) The "act common to the game" definition Morelli cited during the game is not suitable in this case.

Pereira didn't state that the ruling would be different had Polamalu been touched by a Colts player.

My view is that he used (1) to say Polamalu catched the ball and (2) to make Morelli not look too bad.

  12. That is correct.

However the first interception that they took away from Polamalu was also a blown call that should have been interpreted as a catch under the Bert Emanual rule.

The second interception that they took away from Polamalu was probably the worst call I have ever seen in the postseason in one of the most poorly officiated playoff games you'll ever watch.

    569776

I also agree the second interception is one of the worst alls ever, or one of the worst definitions on "football move" by ref.

But on the first interception, I remember the reply clearly showed Polamalu lost control of the ball after hitting the ground. Polamalu didn't even argue about it.

  13. it's no catch under the rule that was set after NFC title game between Bucs and Rams in '99.

    569660

This is not related to "Bert Emanuel Rule" .

'The Bert Emanuel Rule' is that if you have control of the ball when tumbling to the ground and still cleanly control it (even if part of the ball touches the ground during the process), it is a catch. Previously, if the ball touched at all, it was an incomplete pass automatically. Now, it will be up an official's judgement.

  14. The Falcons are gonna rue the day they chose Vick over Tomlinson.  Hell they gave the Brees in that trade too.

    557685

Chargers actually used their own 2nd round choice to pick Brees.

    The trade is

Falcons got 2001 #1 overal (Vick)

    Chargets got 2001 #5 overal (LT) + 2001 3rd round, #67 (T.Cody) + 2002 2nd round, #48 (R.Caldwell) + T.Dwight
