1. Trade down? Draft different players? Fill all holes in one draft? Stop whining!!

What makes you so sure Whitner and McCargo would still be available several picks later? How do Clayton, Mort, and other writers know this?

All of you don't have a clue, and none of you was in the war rooms of the teams picked after Bills.

Marv & Co didn't want to risk losing the players they really like.

If you prefered to draft different players in the same spots but didn't have any real football experience in evaluating college prospects, stop using mock drafts to criticise Marv and shut up!!

If you couldn't be sure that Whitner and McCargo would be available several picks later, shut up too!!

If you liked to grade a draft before any of the rookies plays a NFL game, try to realize this is a meaningless grading and come back three years later. Also, get a life!!

  2. Let's hope you don't ever make any judgements about any these players before 2009, or else you'd be a big hypocrite.  This draft sucked a$$.

Don't worry, I never judge young players before they're several years in the league. :D

Hope some day you'll learn it's not smart to grade a draft before any of the rookies plays a NFL game. ;)

  3. I could have seen this being a B at best. Henry was good for us but has falen to sh-- lately. Schoebel is a high-end of the average category of a DE. Jennings? Useless. Clements has been good up until last season.

    Isn't B better than C+ ??

  4. it didn't make sense to me yesterday, but it does today. We're going to play a "hornet's nest" defense. No size on the lines, but tons of speed everywhere. 2 DTs and a combination of 9 DB/LBs.

I need a name for this new 2-9 alignment....

    Creative contributions are always accepted.

PS. My only concern is that we won't have enought depth at DB. I think we should draft another one or two just to be absolutley sure.

Didn't you post the same thing about 10 minutes ago and nobody replied to you? Nice way to get attention by reposting the same stuff again and again.

  5. Bottom line is that we needed a SS and a DT and at the time we took him, Whitner was the best SS on the board and at the time we took McCargo, he was the best DT still on the board and likely wouldn't have been there had we sat and waited.

Really, is the combo of Bunkley + Manning so clearly superior to the combo of Whitner + McCargo that it justifes excoriating Marv and Modrak?  I don't care if we took them "too high" whatever that means.  Can they play?  That is the question and that is what we will grade this draft on.

    677811

Exactly, these board experts should stop using mock drafts to criticise Marv's picks.

  6. With Free Agency and day one of the Draft now on Levy's record it's becoming clearer that the Bills are going nowhere under Levy. It's a shame we wil have to wait another year or two until another GM can be found. Hopefully that choice will be made by a new owner. One that doesn't try to make a phone call using his stapler.

    677751

You are obviously not aware that Levy has long history of evaluating college prospects.

  7. First, to pick a Safety #8 when he was projected to go much lower was assanine, Not only could they have gotten a comparable player later in the draft, but they had teams clammoring to deal (Denver, Philly).

You should stop reading mock drafts and assume you're a draft expert. Also, reading Clayton's or Kiper's columns also won't help you. Was any of them at the war rooms to know how the draft board was ordered?

The Bills sucks right now, They need players. period. To not make a deal doesnt make sense. Oh, and by the way, Levy picked up Bowens in FA. So now he goes out and picks up another player at the same position. Seems like someone who doesn't now what he is doing.

Do you know there're 'backups' and in a football team? How about 'special team'?

I think losing the 2nd and 3rd round picks plus the loss of additional picks that were offered to trade down were HUGE tactical and strategic mistakes which the Bills may NEVER recover from..

Again, how do you know Whitner and McCargo would be available in several picks laters? Because Clayton, Kiper, or the so-called "experts" said so?

Were they at the war rooms of the teams picked after Bills so they're sure Whitner and McCargo would be still on board?

No, they were not, just like all the fans.

  8. I probably go ahead and take Davin Joseph at #8 overall.  Hell, why not.  I think he's going to be a great guard and I like him better than all of the other guys picked after Whitner.

    677631

If Marv had drafted Davin Joseph at #8, many board 'experts' would have asked for his head or simply killed themselves. Their mock drafts didn't say so!!!

  9. I think it is clear that these draft guys know nothing about the team that drafts them. They look at the player, where he was picked, and who else was there and thats it, forgetting about what the team needs and who fits the bill.

With that said, most of us saw ESPN's winners and losers and i was wondering how mel kiper can say we are a loser but he loves the whitner pick. Also we have the chance to have 3 starters out of this in Whitner, McCargo, and maybe next year in Youboty but we are losers. The patiots however, do not have any starters in laurence maroney (dillion will play, maroney is for the future), chad jackson (rookies WR almost never have an impact), and TE David Thomas (he's not cracking the lineup with ben watson, daniel graham, and christian fuaria) but they are winners

    677636

Any draft grades before the rookies play a NFL game mean nothing. My lucky 8 ball does as good grading as these 'experts'.

  10. All of your picks slipped for one reason or another.  The only ones to rise much higher than expected were our picks.  And I don't think being off with Mario by one spot is a huge difference.

    677424

Just show a mock draft which has FEW picks which was actually notable drafted higher.

And you haven't responded the mock drafts which have Whinter at #8 and McCargo at late 1st round. Don't these mock drafts count?

  11. I think the accuracy of the draft "gurus" this year goes a long way to singling out Levy and Co. as problems.  If Kiper and the bunch picked drafts that were far off, that would be one thing.  But generally speaking, the mock drafts were close to what happened - with a few notable exceptions, such as Whitner and McCargo.  And that is what gives us the right to be pissed off.

    677319

Really!? Show a mock draft which only has few notable exceptions.

How many mock drafts have Mario Williams at #1 overall?

    How about Leinart in #10?

How about Chad Jackson in second round?

How about Winston Justice in second round?

How about Ashton Youboty in third round?

How about D.Bing and G.Watson not drafted after round three?

These are the picks which are way off. The Whitner and McCargo picks are not that "off" compared to above examples. (The only person said McCargo was projected to 3rd round was Kiper and he said that was "some time ago")

Also, don't forget that there're mock drafts which have Whitner goes to Bills at #8 and McCargo goes to late 1st round.

  12. Do they know for a fact that other teams behind the bills didn't want to snag Dante and McCargo?

    677322

Right, the words they used were "could have", "probably", and "maybe". How do they know the players would be still available several picks later?

Last time I checked, they were not in ANY of the war rooms just like all the fans.

  13. Absolutely right!

I am not saying the players drafted are not good, but the Bills could probably have drafted the same players and received two extra draft picks in addition to keeping their own 2nd and 3rd round pick to boot if they played their cards right.

A serious missed opportunity. An organization with a keen acumen and draft strategy would have pounced on the opportunity.

The boys at OBD really blew it!

    677295

See you use the word "probably", do you have more concrete evidences that Bills could still draft Whinter after trading down or draft McCargo without trading up?

Were you in the war room? or the whole thing is just your speculation and you badmouth OBD based on your imagination.

  14. Wwe don't know for sure ! But Bunkley was there at 8th and we all saw the tape that he is a stud !

Soo Marv ? What tape did you see ? The Ring III ? Around my !@#$ ?

    677048

Are you saying you are better than Marv in evaluating college prospects? When is the last time you worked for a pro football team?

Between Marv's and your evaluations, it's not hard to figure which one to trust?

  15. Joe Six, did something fall on your head?

Get a clue: Nobody would have been able to compare two established players to two just-drafted rookies named Sapp and Lynch, either. Are you kidding me? How can you not see the logic problem in this question? When Sapp came out 2/3 of the NFL didn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

    676735

You make too much sense to him.
