What are the different types of contract adjustments?
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
What about a player who has one year left on his deal for 20 mil? If he restructures to a 18 mil signing bonus, does it all hit the same year or is it 9 this year and 9 next (even though he isn’t on the team or under contract anymore) Also, when do performance incentives hit the cap? Do they hit for full value? Great answers btw, I appreciate it. I don’t get lost in the contract weeds often -
One thing I've always been confused about it is the different ways current contract players can adjust their contract to help the team or themselves. In what situation is a team/player allowed to rip up the old contract and make a new one? Are their any restrictions to this? Is this in the same fold as players taking a pay cut? I would also think the NFLPA would intervene if players were taking less to help the team, as they need to protect all players at the position by establishing consistent market value salaries. When a player converts their salary into bonus for the year, I'm pretty sure that total amount becomes prorated over the remainder of their contract. It frees up money in the moment, but it kicks the can down the road and makes is a guaranteed dead money contract hit. However, what if a player only has one year left on their deal, can this still be done? Can you have dead money from a player who's contract is now expired? I feel like my questions got lost in all of that, so let me put it like this: 1 - If Josh wanted to rip up his contract and sign a new, one year deal for 5 million dollars, is that even possible? 2 - When a player takes a pay cut, is that essentially a new contract from scratch that doesn't have any penalties?

I don’t think the NFLPA would let Sam do that. The connection is a small part of it. We will need a backup and Darnold was the 3rd overall pick. I didn’t realize his option was picked up and guaranteed, so this year is out
-
For clarity, this is based off absolutely nothing besides their known relationship and assumed cuts. If Sam Darnold gets cut by the Panthers and Fitz doesn't want to come back (my personal hope), how would you feel about the Bills bringing in Darnold as Josh's back-up. They are known to be great friends and train together with Palmer. I can't imagine that anyone is going to pay Darnold much of anything on his next contract after being given the keys to the kingdom twice. Now, I haven't really seen anything of Darnold to believe he can turn his career around, but he does have the proper tools. He was mentally broken for the Jets and a few years of building his confidence back up could be helpful. Also, in spot Duty, maybe he could put some games together. On a side note, think of the fact that we could have Rosen, Josh, and Darnold all on this roster together if we really wanted to. Hell, even Baker after this season. It's crazy how that all turned out. **Edit - His contract is guaranteed this season. So this wouldn't be until 2023, which makes it all very doubtful

I don't think that's the case. Kelce even said after the game that we ran the same coverage on back to back plays, so he just took advantage of the zone they were giving him.

Rams Team Building Strategy Will It Be Duplicated or a Rareity
Virgil replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
When they see the fallout, I don’t think teams will copy. They might not even be able to keep Stafford after next season. -
I’d love to see the overall success rate of players selected from those two schools in the first 4 rounds. There will always be a Diamond in the rough, but I’m assuming most wash out and never live up to their potential. However, I’m happy to be proven wrong

Does he come with a MLB that takes Edmunds off the field?

Spotrac has Levi Wallace valued @ $9M/yr. Thoughts?
Virgil replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hate to say it, but pay him. With Tre out through October, we need some consistency moreso than just Jackson. However I think he’ll get more than 9 mil from somewhere else -
As much as I love draft talk, I think it's virtually impossible to project what we might do until Free Agency starts. With so many players on the defensive and offensive lines being in flux and Wallace being an UFA, our needs could change drastically. My biggest concern is McD's commitment to a rotating defensive line and needing to keep those roster numbers up. I would hate to see us waste another draft in the trenches, rather than focusing on more full time contributors that can make an impact. If we lose Harrison, Hughes, Addison, and Star, I expect a very line heavy draft

So you're saying it's still not safe to come back to this board for a while, got it
-
Probably not. This board was so flooded with posts for the weeks after, it just felt like overkill.

Any idea why he doesn't return punts? I guess I just assumed he did that as well
-
Even at age 31, I would love to see us make a run at Patterson. I think he'd fit perfectly into this offense and can absorb the roles of different players. He can line up in the backfield on 3rd and long, he can run the sweeps, and return kicks. He brings speed with him that has to be respected. I can't see him fetching a huge price on the market and I know he wants to sign with the Falcons. Also, there's been absolutely nothing linking him to the Bills. With all of that, I hope we make an attempt if he hits the open market.

Do we really want someone who is taking notes from Greg Roman? -
Does anyone else not remember that the Saints were one of the most super bowl favored teams for multiple years and consistently got bounced early. He won the whole thing one time. C’mon people. Back off the ledge

A Few Thoughts about the Patriots Playoff Game, in no particular order

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about the fake spike. I had it in my notes and then wrote almost all of this from memory. That really was a great, albeit strange, play!
