I had high hopes that an improved pass rush would  impact on our pass defense.  The Bills didn’t blitz once during the game, yet PM was hurried most of the game causing him to miss open receivers and make hurried throws.  The pass rush allowed our Dbacks to focus on defending the pass instead of having to worry about RB’s getting past the LOS and into the secondary.

I was most impressed with the tackling.  I don’t remember a missed tackle all night.  The defense was swarming, getting to where the ball was quickly.  Tackling at the LOS was impressive also.  It seemed as soon as a run was made or pass was completed, that player was engulfed by multiple defenders.  Was an impressive defensive showing.

The defensive game plan was snatched right from Tampa's super bowl game. I wasn't sure if they Bills had the personnel to successfully execute the plan. Poor did they ever.  In many ways, the Bills mimicked the Bucs. It was a sight to see. Locking down a Chiefs offense screams "elite" to me. I'm sold.

THIS is the biggest storyline to come out if this game, IMO.

You can truly see a confident team that expects to win.

No hero ball, no fear, just belief and execution.

This team expects to win it all, and I will not be surprised when it happens, mofos (Nate Diaz reference) 😀

I agree. The Bills team is no longer under the rader. They are the ones to beat and clearly being "hunted." However, they have to stay focused and take one game at a time. Barring injuries the Bills seem to have a nice path to the AFC Championship game. How cool would it be to go to that game in Buffalo! I'll take that Xmas present.

I don't think the Titans match up that well with us....in our favor. I know we lost last year, but even last year was kind of a weird game in a lot of ways. Our run defense was a lot more suspect last year and even then they didn't really run that much on us.

They don't have a good defense but have a relatively slow plodding offense that nickels and dimes you down the field, obviously love to run.

We need to be ourselves let Josh do his thing...work in some of this balanced offense we've been really excellent at this year. Put up points and TDs. This Titans defense should not stop us, and I don't see the turnovers like last year.

Ultimately, I don't think the Titans can keep up with us on offense and that will be our best bet to eliminate / neutralize Henry.

I agree. The Titan defense should have major problems stopping the Bills offense. Henry still is very dangerous but the Bills run defense is vastly improved over last year. Henry is by far the best runner the Bills have facef. I'm confident that the Bills coaching staff will have a solid game plan to limit Henry's production. The best way is to come out the gate with a big lead.

A slight concern is the wild crowd and home field advantage for the Titans. Also, there's a possibility the team can have a "letdown" after such a huge win. Its imperative the coaches have the players prepared and mentally ready to play. This team seems focused on a major run to the super bowl. So I'm not expecting a major letdown.

Big win amd 5-1 going into the bye. It doesn't suck to be a Bill's fan...

What a week , two thoughts posts, for  the same game. Again great job on these.

In your pre game thoughts, my response to your post began,

"Oh ye of little faith", and though I completely understand why you felt that way, this is a different year, a better team, and a team that has been trending upwards since our loss in the conference championship game last year (except for the hiccup in week 1 against Pitt).

The transformation has been almost biblical, so what we saw last night was just Sunday school for the Chiefs.

Instead of the former teacher (Reid), his star pupil lead the class.

My thoughts completely out of order:

( 7 and10) Mc D and company schooled the Chiefs with a very well composed and well executed defensive game plan. The defensive line all played well, with Groot the standout. The pressure, rushing 4, was relentless all game on Mahomes and allowed the 2 deep zone to dominate the Chiefs receivers on passing downs. They were stout against the run and contained Mahomes all night. Edmonds, again played at a Pro Bowl level, taking away the short middle, flying around the field like a man possessed. Props to Klein and Neal (8)who filled in great for Milano in coverage. The secondary (6) were again phenomenal, even when Mahomes had 4 -5 seconds in the pocket they stayed true in their zones and took most of his targets away. Finally they all tackled well, no near misses, and if a tackle was missed there was always another Bill to clean it up, so a superb performance by the defense.

On offense, continueing the Sunday school theme, Mc D and the team were reading from the book of Josh. (5)Allen showed everyone why he is a potential MVP candidate. His determination while running was just the attitude that was needed, he would not be denied. I am always amazed at his arm talent, even though I've seen it again and again, the throws this kid makes I still come away thinking that's incredible.

The throws to Sanders, and Diggs (9) were outstanding. When they weren't targeted, and on running plays, all the receivers blocked well, carrying forward the " team " mentality. My only knock against Josh was the grounding play, and if he would of had another second I believe it would of been a completion to Diggs, as he was coming open. Josh falling down, he  just couldn't get it there, or across the line of scrimmage, which would of negated the grounding call.

As I said in your pregame thread, "Knox is our Kelce"(3). All I can say is " Wow" when I see him make these catches. 5 TDs in 5 games, sure hands, and great blocking, where has this guy been for the Bills, forever.

    (1) As far as Beane goes, what he has done putting this roster together is nothing less than ledgendary. I don't think it has just been dumb luck, the man knows his business. If he continues like he has, over his next few contracts with the Bills, his career will be HOF worthy. I hope he sticks around for a long time.

    (2) the drive is what stuck the knife in the Chiefs, and I was glad too see it. When the Bills scored, you could see the frustration on the KC sidelines, the momentum was set , and that the deal was sealed.

    Refereeing and broadcasters:

I feel your frustration, on both counts. There were bad calls and no calls all night, and not just on the Bills. My personal bias aside, the Chiefs were screwed over too. It's hard to believe this is one of the so called best officiating teams in the NFL, because they just plain out sucked.

This broadcast team is the worst in football. Al Michael's needs to retire and I never have liked Collingsworth, even in his playing days. He is a smug, condescending jack azz, and always has been.

    On to Tennessee, Go Bills!

Outstanding post as well as Virgil's. All I can say is how impressed I was with the Bill's performance. It was a complete win from coaching to players on down to management. The preparation, focus, and execution was nearly flawless. So many players were outstanding.

Side note, I was happily wrong about my assessment of this game. That game was so much fun to watch. I know it's just one game; but that was more than one game in my eyes. My skepticism has turned to optimism. Go Bills!

All this talk about their D but in my opinion it’s our D that gotta step up. They got manhandled in both games last year. Both units struggled against this team but I think it’s more important that our D has a good game.

If the Bills win it will because Allen and the offense carved the KC defense. The Bills defense is important but at best they can just contain Mahomes. This defense with the front four cannot generate enough of a consistent pass rush to disrupt and stop KC. Also, the Bills have no answer or player to stop Kelce.  A hobbled Milano will get torched. Tyreke is as dangerous as ever especially if they over compensate for Kelce. CEH seems to be playing much better. Screen passes seem to be effective against the Bills. Look at the Wash game for evidence. As mentioned before, the Bills defense has faced the bottom of NFL offenses. The KC offense should be able to move the ball and score. Reid has outcoached the Bills staff by a country mile. His team will have the answers vs the Bills defense. Perhaps the pouring rain can assist the defense.

On the other hand, a sharp Allen with Diggs, newly acquired Sanders, Beasley, and now Knox presents an immense problem for the Chiefs. A serviceable running game and a great Daboll play calling should lead to a highly effective offensive scoring output.

The Bills have been great at getting turnovers. Hoping the defense can get a few and put the offense in great positions to score.

Getting a win in Arrowhead is no easy task. I believe the Bills team will be ready. They should be mentally tough and experienced for this prime time game. I don't think the moment is too big. Josh has to come out of the gate much better than the previous games.

    Sorry for the ramble.

I think maybe you missed my point. IF we can’t beat KC, then it likely doesn’t matter where we are the end, or where they are. Whether we are the 1st seed, 3rd seed, or 7th seed, we likely will have to beat KC to get to the Super Bowl. Seeding only matters in figuring out which round we have to play them.

We need to be able to beat KC for it to matter.  And if we lose Sunday, that’s 3 times in 12 months that we lost to them. Thats a lot different than 1991.

    .

You think KC is a bad match up for the Bills?

Allen played exceptionally well in a strong wind game against Washington and last week in the rain he played very well against the Texans. He should be fine.

The weak KC defense should help.

KC D is bad. I would focus on establishing the run and controlling time of possession. Mix in play action to keep them off balance. When KC is on offense I am going to bracket cover both Hill and Kelce. Force the other guys to beat you.

I think that's much easier said than done. I don't disagree with your thesis. The run game will open the passing game for Allen.

Not sure what " bracket cover" is. Certainly, Kelce has killed the Bills. I'm not sure the Bills have the personnel to stop him. Also, it seems like the Bills D will have to choose Hill or Kelce to double. Not sure you can do both. Kinda pick your poison. Can the Bills pass rush disrupt Mahomes?  Additionally, CEH has been heavily involved in their offense. He is a real threat.

Lastly, a big key to the game is the Bills Oline. Allen was running for his life in last year's games.

The Bills (almost literally) limped into that game. No real running game, Zack Moss on IR, Diggs, Beasley and Davis hobbling around and getting pushed around by KC's DBs. In our first matchup we had equal  issues. No Milano, weak DL, White coming off a back injury, Edmunds playing with a bum shoulder, Brown basically being a decoy/non-factor.

Just wish we could play them at relatively good or full strength to get a real read. Feel like our last 2 matchups have been played with one hand tied behind our back.

Fair point. However, I believe the Chiefs had significant injuries as  well.

The Bills coaching staff should have plenty of tape via the Tampa, Balt, and Charger games to have a solid game plan. It won't be easy in Arrowhead against a semi desperate team that needs to win. Pretty surprised the Chiefs are only 2.5 point favorites. I think the line should be 4.5 to 5 points.

The Chiefs will dare us to run on defense and misdirect Edmunds into oblivion on offense. I sent a emails to Daboll and Frazier.

I think you are right on daring the Bills to run. Thus far, the Bills offense has little success vs their defense. However, the Chiefs defense looks worse than last year. A running threat and some success would be great for Allen. Not sure what changes Daboll and the offense makes. I'm assuming they just can't do the same old thing. Imho, the Bills will need to score at least 30 points to win. I'm very encouraged by the Bills recent l defensive play. However, the Chiefs offense should be able to score vs the Bills.

Schefter made this pronouncement in the pregame commentary when the start of the game was delayed 30 minutes for a thunder storm.  (A $5 BILLION dome stadium and they can't play in it during a thunder storm?  What the h*ll?)

He also said during the same soliloquy that Mahomes and Herbert were the two best young QBs in the NFL and would be the choices of any NFL GM looking to start a franchise.

I'm not here to put down Mahomes or Herbert, I agree with Schefty that they are amazing young QBs.   I don't need to put them down to believe that Josh is fantastic too.  Was Schefty just throwing a hot take out there on the fly and just overlooked Allen, or does he really put Mahomes and Herbert in a different tier than Allen?

I think Allen legitimately deserves to be in the conversation for best young NFL QB.  I would put Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, and Watson all in that group.  Watson obviously has some issues that could derail his career, and I could see some people leaving him out of that conversation right now because of it.  I'm not going to get mad about someone believing that Allen isn't the best of the three, but for Josh to not even earn an honorable mention is a bit strange.

For my money, I wouldn't trade Allen for either of them.  That's not a knock on Mahomes or Herbert, I just have a huge amount of faith in Josh and believe he has the traits to be an all-time great QB.  I also believe Josh's DNA fits Buffalo far better than either of the other two guys would.

Allen does deserve to be in the discussion. However, I'd take Mahomes over Allen in a heartbeat.

  12. The offense is going to have to win it. Not to say the defense doesn't have a role. The Oline of KC might be even worse than Buffalo. Pressure on Mahomes can slow him down. Look at the Chargers game. Also, the Bills look much improved in stopping the run. Star is showing his value on the Oline. I believe the Chiefs will try to get CEH highly involved in their offense via run and pass. Tyreke is always dangerous. Kelce us unstoppable when it comes to Buffalo.

Allen has to be sharp. He cannot be "over hyped" or whatever you call it in the beginning of the game. That has to stop and get fixed. If not, the Cheifs will jump on Buffalo. Buffalo will unlikely recover from such a poor start.

Lastly, is it me or does it seem like the special teams has gotten a little better? I don't recall cringing when the Bills are punting. "Bassamatic" has been as reliable as they come.

Good lord everyone on this board is scared to death of KC lol. So there a good team there’s a few in the afc this year. Look at LA they played with confidence and won that game with a 2 year QB. There not NE with Tom Brady in there glory days, and we’re not the same team. It’s time to turn the page bills fans and let’s kick some butt. Go bills

Damn, I always put my Bill's helmet on. I'm ready to pull a "Rudy." Great inspiration. Go Bills!

Now we see what this years Bills team is.  Lost to a mediocre steelers team week 1 and crushed 3 JV teams since.

Time to see if they are contenders or pretenders.

I agree. However, the AFC east is so weak the Bills will win it by default. I'm not complaining...

    Coaching too.

Allen was a raw product, a diamond in the rough compared to some like Mahomes and Herbert - so how fast a rookie QB hits the ground running may not be quite a fair comparison with Allen coming out of Wyoming after only getting a JUCO offer and those groomed in HS and college programs like Texas Tech and Oregon.

Most NFL scouts worth their salt knew that it was going to take time and an organizational investment to see Allen reach his potential - I think we have scratched the surface and he still has room to grow applying the right touch and mechanics on each throw, recognizing defenses and willing to be patient and take what they are giving up underneath.

He puts in the work and has proven that he defy the experts and can overcome bad habits and develop good muscle memory to be amazing. You have to like what he was able to do in the WNY elements, and I never expected a kid that big to be able to move like he does or be able to beat LBs to the sticks or pylon...

The NFL has some very good young QB talents and we have one of them.

5 minutes perusing the idiocy on chiefs planet and I am reminded why I can't stand chiefs fans.  They somehow managed to become more smug and arrogant than pats fans.  They act like you just called their mother a ***** anytime someone doesn't heap praise on every aspect of the team.  In case you were wondering, they shouldn't have lost half their games this year, it was just because of turnovers (which never happen in football games).  They are laughing at the fact that Buffalo hasn't played any tough teams yet, meanwhile they are in last place in their division with a .500 record.  There is NEVER anything positive about the opponent or negative about the chiefs.  F@(% the chiefs, their fans, and their Darlene Connor lookalike QB.

Wonder what the opposing team fans would think of Bills fans if they read this board. I suspect they would be saying the same things about Bills fans. Let's not be naive here.
