I think they are very good. I don't think they are as good as KC or Buffalo. That's all I said. There is something to be said about how long programs are together and the things coaches learn from experience and I don't think Houston is there in either aspect in comparison to Buffalo or KC
I don't think anyone is "there" compared to KC come playoff time. They are just a different animal come playoff time. After them, the pecking order is more debatable. IMHO, Houston is right in the mix or "there" with about 6 other teams which includes Buffalo.

You and I can cry in each other's beer when we make the playoffs every year.
May I kindly remind you that making the playoffs isn't the ultimate goal of the team. Especially when you have a healthy #17.

Come playoff time his results, game planning, and preparation is average at best. He's been consistently out coached in the playoffs.
It's one of my least favorite things about him.

McDermott is one of the most aggressive 4th down decision makers in the league. Not sure if that need to be said.
Without research, I would have thought it was Andy Reid.

Likely- but I’ll take Josh Allen making a 3 yard play over Bass making a kick any day
I'm not a stats guy. I do know 4th and 1 is much easier to make than 2 and 3 and do on.
What does analytics say?
I totally get going for it. I didn't hate going for it. I just was leaning towards kicking it.

The context there was important. That was a stolen possession. In a situation where you kickoff but get the ball back on an opening drive turnover, you really have no risk there. You don’t convert, you just shortened the first half where they start with the ball giving us still the advantage getting the ball first in 2nd half. But you convert and it’s like starting with the ball both halves and scoring on the first one with the second one still to come.
Now add in how demoralizing it is for them to start with a turnover in a game that is almost a must win for them against the team that’s owned them and their division since it’s their home game and a TD over a FG can feel almost back breaking. It’s mentally a 14 point swing when they come out against our depleted defense in their stadium expecting to score on the opening drive.
So if there is a time to be aggressive it’s there IMHO. Had we received the opening kickoff and it was our opening drive, then I take the points unless it was 4th and short. Coming away with zero is like giving them a turnover to start the game.
I think that is one way to see it. However, there is an equally compelling case to be made for kicking the FG. The old adage of taking the points especially on the road wasn't a bad thought.
I don't agree with your statement that there was no risk. A failed conversation would have immediately changed the momentum of the game. We all know how important momentum is. It likely would have jump started the Miami team and fans.
Of course, it's all hindsight and the Bills converted it into a TD. So obviously it was the correct call based on the results.
Your mindset here isn't wrong. It's an aggressive thought. Being aggressive comes with consequences on both sides.

Agree but the percentages were much higher of a FG make vs a 1st down conversation.

I wanted the Bills to take the points. I understand going for it. Watching live, I just felt like it was a bit too risky. Three yards on the road seemed like a bit too risky. I didn't want the Dolphins to have a just of emotional and momentum if they stopped the Bills. Plus, even if the Bills make it ; there was no guarantee of a TD.
Poor was a happy to be wrong as I watched Cook gallop into the end zone.

I'm not sure where the right place to put this is, but I found this Youtube piece by a board certified neurosurgeon interesting, and your post seemed like a good place to put it. As to your point, the first question is going to be does Tua heal and recover completely from this concussion? As we know from Mr Bath Mat, Kevin Kolb, there can be permanent effects. Long term decisions have to wait on this first step, recovery.
As to your points, they're valid, but I think if Tua recovers and clears protocol, it's really going to be up to Tua. If Tua is kept from playing and suffers financial loss, I would think the doctor would face potential repercussions from preventing his play. Pretty sure the players all sign liability waivers, so being sued might not be a concern. My hope for Tua is that his family and friends and his physicians help him evaluate and make the best decision for him (which I think would be step away).
On to the Lady Spine Doc:
She explains what causes the "fencing posture" - about 1:25 in. It's all about stretching the neurons in your lateral vestibular nucleus (she goes too fast by the diagram, freeze the video at that point).
She says having this spontaneous neuron signaling that causes involuntary contraction doesn't necessarily indicate how serious the concussion is, which I found interesting - evidently it's all about what part of the brain gets hit and whether or not the neurons leading to the lateral vestibular nucleus get stretched
Minor point that she (and a number of other commentators on the web) mistakenly say his previous concussions with involuntary contraction were last season, when in fact they were in 2022.Anyway, I thought it was interesting for the info on what causes the fencing posture, why it doesn't necessarily mean that the concussion was more serious, and unlike a number of pundits she's not all "this doesn't mean he can't return to play", though of course she points out the concussions are very concerning for long term brain injury.
I was of the mindset that fencing indicated it was a more serious concussion. Good stuff here. Thanks

I sadly and with no glee predict Tua is going to play again. Next year, he will get another concussion and it will be devastating. His speech will be severely impaired for years and his memory will be substantially impaired. It's not a matter of if. It's a matter of when.
The NFL needs to force him to retire.

especially if Spector and Williams get their reps and become capable starters. Great problem to have down the stretch/playoffs.
I'd be surprised if Spector can stay injury free. He's the football version of Anthony Davis.

Yeah I mean its hard to argue with something that is working. However there are times drives stall and Allen is asked to make incredible 3rd down plays. I dont like that. Especially when he throws so little, he really isnt in a rhythm. Its not going to work all season. I hope they have something when it doesnt. Need to be able to do both things. We arent always going to get 3 ints in a game lol. We arent always going to be able to ram the ball for 7 ypc or whatever it is.
Mostly, like I said, I would have like to see them run play action more on those second and shorts. Especially when the defense is selling out to stop the run. I would like to see them mix up first down a bit more. Things like that.
I think you are spot on here.

It doesnt bother me as long as we are winning. I don't care how they win, just win! There are two things that do bother me about it... One is last week, last drive not going for the throat. The other is that its too predictable and Brady isnt leaning into playaction when he should. He isnt mixing it up. Its putting Josh into too many third and longs and asking him to be superman every time. There doesnt seem to be rhyme or reason to his scheme. Like it doesnt look like they ever use a set up from previous plays. We ran we ran we ran. Yall sellin out for the run now so now we are going to... run again. What do I know though.
Ummm what? Have you seen Bills games versus Miami for like the last two years?
I hear you Scott. I think the Bills offense is still a work in progress after 2 games. I myself, would like to see a little more play action from a traditional QB under center. I think it really out additional pressure in defenses.
I will say the Bills running game looks legit. Cook and Davis look more explosive and are able to get more chunks yards. The oline is blowing defensive players off the line of scrimmage. That Cook 50 yard TD was a thing of beauty. This balanced attack should lead to bigger passing games for Allen when needed.
After two games, I don't think we fans can quibble about a lot. I'm interested to see how teams attack the Bills offense throughout the season.

Bills just need to find a way to go 2-2 the next 4 games.
Then Johnson comes back, Bernard comes back, Allen's hand will be 100%, and we get into an easier stretch of the schedule.
It's one game at a time theory for me. But I wouldn't be mad at 2-2 for the next 4 games. That would take the Bills to 4-2 which is very good in my opinion.
Just have to say this is all good but it doesn't really take into account others who will get injured. I think it's safe to say other Bills players will get injured in the about time frame mentioned. We are kinda of having our cake and eating it too.

That angle he took on the TD where Cook ran away from him was the kind of thing that makes a fella think it's about time for me to hang 'em up.
He did that all too often towards the end of his Bills tenure.

Deion Jones is out there, but Buffalo dumped him in favor of the backups they kept. I don't think there's anybody out there who can come in and be more effective than the guys who are on the roster. I could see adding a linebacker or two to the PS to get them exposed to Buffalo's defensive system.
I thought Jones looked decent prior to being released.

Just got extended through like 2028 I think.
With the way Skylar Thompson has generally looked (not bad until tonight), I'd argue McDaniel can run a successful offense even without the questionable talents of Tua. Thompson gave the Bills all they could handle at home in the playoffs.
Something was way off tonight for them. Was it facing a Bills defense who FULLY understands how to "contain" them? Or was it facing a Bills defense who fully understands how to "contain" and frustrate Tua, specifically?
(Separately, I'm still not seeing the relentless "arms up" postures I need to see from our condor EDGE guys as they rush and contain, tbh.) Rousseau and Epenesa need to be practicing pass rush moves with their arms up and out like basketball players defending an inbound play. Those dudes are a million feet long. They can disrupt tremendously without winning pass rush reps cleanly.
The Bills defense usually matches up well vs Miami. McD has had simply marvelous game plans against them.
It's the Jets match ups that the Bills struggle with.

Truthfully, he was rock solid all game. I was actually thinking maybe the automatic Bass is back. He was confidently drilling everything down the middle. Then that FG attempt. Oh boy was that deflating.

Not an expert here in pass rushing. My eye saw a Miller who looks fast and has the unique bend back to his game. He's making an impact which is huge. I didn't know what to expect out of him.

Just a general statement here. As a Bills fan, that was a fun game to watch. There is a lot to be excited about.
Only downer is the Bernard injury. Need him not to be out for the season. A few weeks and I think the Bills will be fine.

It ok. It's not about that. Samuel and Holis were quiet too. This is a different team philosophy offensively. Teams are going to have problems planning for the Bills offense. They can beat you so many ways.
