Pretty safe bet that Elam and/or benford will be serviceable…I don’t think I trust a coaching staff more to develop young defensive backs than ours.

also I don’t think these experts really seem to grasp how much a good pass rush helps out the corners.

Kupp is going to get a ton of attention and the rams will be forced to play through Allen Robinson who is new to the system.

Hmmm... Bills played all those teams too plus Washington and their terrible QB. Bills played the worst collection of QBs in history last season.  Saints essentially played a fullback at QB.  Belichick made the playoffs with a rookie QB.

As others have said, he is a terrible Gm, seems like a terrible person, but single game strategy is unequaled in NFL history.  Look no further than their first and last SB wins.  Pats defense stopped the Greatest Show on Turf and then held the newest genius OC to only 260 yards and 3 points.

While I now believe Brady has moved past Montana.  I would still put Bill Walsh ahead of Belichick.  My top coaches are 1. Walsh 2. Belichick 3. Shula 4. Noll 5. Parcells. Lombardi, Madden, Landry, and Gibbs are just outside of the top 5.  I don't know enough about Paul Brown or many other very early NFL coaches to rank them.

Oh yea I’m by no means saying we had an impressive regular season…11 wins against that schedule was pretty disappointing.  Last year was a year where we should’ve been a heavy favorite for the 1 seed and we coughed it up due to a rough stretch in the middle of the season.

I think our win total was a bit of an aberration though as we went 0-5 in one score games…that tends to correct itself in the following season assuming the team in question is at least decent. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that we would have beaten the pats pretty comfortably in slightly less windy conditions though and that really was the difference between them making/missing the playoffs.

I agree that he is a horrible gm. Another Jerry Jones situation where his ego prevents him from realizing others are better with personnel.

The 71-79 record includes when he was head coach of the Browns, who had a bad roster and were in the process of leaving Cleveland. Belichick was still finding his way as a head coach.

Bill also managed to have winning records with Matt Cassell and rookie Mac Jones at qb.

Why do people always attach the word ‘rookie’ to qbs like they are guaranteed to improve as they age…lots of guys get off to good starts because defenses haven’t yet picked up on their tendencies then they end up flaming out

I won't believe the fall of the Patriots until I see it. They made the playoffs with a rookie qb and have a defensive mastermind as their head coach. I have heard this same story every preseason for the past decade. The Patriots are a threat as long as Bill Belichick is their coach.

Nothing against what he’s done in the past obviously but I wasn’t terribly impressed with belichick last season.  The pats making the playoffs felt a bit flukey imo…they got the browns and titans absolutely ravaged by injuries and the bills in that ridiculous wind storm.  couple that with the afc east having a bunch of easy opponents on the schedule to begin with… NYJ X 2,HOU,ATL,CAR,JAX.  They faded down the stretch against buffalo and two pretty good afc teams that didn’t even qualify for the playoffs (Mia and Ind) and got absolutely smoked in the playoffs.

People make this more complicated than it is. Belichick is a very good coach. There are a lot of very good coaches in the NFL. Tom Brady is what made him great.

Great coach but I don’t think he’s even a good gm.  His whole philosophy seemed to rely on Brady carrying the weight of the offense with only role players to work with at the skill positions.  Seems like that has caught up to them

shoot this is a paywall. Boo. Im sorry this is paywalled.  Thoughts?

I’m not sure their draft last year was even as good as it looked…there were more easy wins than ever on the afc east schedule last season.

I think the dolphins and pats fans could be unpleasantly surprised this season with a tougher schedule.  We choked pretty hard during the regular season last year so i still think we’re gonna win more games than last year

  7. I’d honestly love if all this Miami hype is complete nonsense…I hope the pats murder them.  Love when these random coordinators get hyped up as football masterminds and then they make terrible head coaches

How screwed up is our legal system....so rich entitled celebrities', we will jus let them play out their season.  Good luck you or I getting the same leeway.

I mean the nfl could choose to suspend players that are pending trial

It's my understanding that Araiza/family offered a settlement before he was drafted and that the victim/her attorney declined.

I believe there were settlement offers presented by each side at various points…none of the lawyers actions on either side make any sense to me though so maybe I am just confused lol

Wtf is wrong with this guy.  He complains that no one has been taking him seriously, meanwhile he’s throwing insults left and right.  Does he really care about the victim he is supposedly representing, or more worried about the attention for himself?

Just based on the lawyers actions alone it really reads like he was trying hard to bully araiza into a settlement before the season started.  I have a feeling they are keeping him updated on the criminal case and he’s got a pretty good idea araiza is not going to be charged.  Of course these lawyers are absolute nutjobs so their actions may be impossible to read into.

leaking the diary still makes absolutely no sense to me…he has this intricate retelling of events in the civil suit then releases a diary that basically says the victim has no idea who brought her to the room or who was in it

couple that with the suit mentioning they had an earlier sexual encounter and he just put together a defense for the opposition

You know he did admit to having  sex with a minor? No coming. Ack from that.

There is in California where ‘mistake of age’ is a valid defense (that’s not true in every state) her diary says ‘told him I went to grossmont’ which is a college and a high school and his lawyer will argue it was a college party and all she said was ‘grossmont’ and conclude that he doesnt think anyone reasonably would’ve asked if she meant the high school. Probably would hold up in a criminal case…civil case he’ll likely settle.

Backlash for waiting until a civil suit or a criminal case was brought?  That's asinine.

The CBA change seems to really be throwing people for a loop on the optics of this one.  If that event happened while he was in the nfl he undoubtedly would’ve been suspended indefinitely until the criminal/civil cases were resolved and there would’ve been nothing to read into regarding how the bills handled it.   that can’t be done anymore for events that occurred in college for nfl players

With “perhaps” being the keyword.  There was no way an apology and a donation was going to make this go away.

Just strictly based on her lawyers actions it really seems like he knows Matt wasn’t involved with the gang rape and they thought they could bully him into a settlement to avoid a statutory rape charge because that will likely be a tossup in a court room.  Of course he could just be a bad lawyer that’s presenting his clients side like that accidentally though

It seems like it’s being rumored that there may be some witnesses that said Matt wasn’t in the house when the gang rape occurred and that would make some logical sense based on what her lawyer has been doing and it would also explain somewhat why the criminal investigation is taking so long.  No idea if it’s true though

When I was at UB I hooked up with a few Canisius girls.  I never asked if it was college or high school.

It is so strange the victims lawyer leaked the diary that said that.  Makes me think there’s a lot of info that isn’t public and some of it may be positive for Matt.  I’m still very happy we cut him just based on what we know now though he’s just way too close to all of this and at the end of the day he had sex with a drunk 17 year old no matter how you slice it

This is what I don't get. Why did the lawsuit then quote the alleged victim ask him "Did we actually have sex?". The lawsuit doesn't actually quote Araiza directly in agreeing they did, even consenually. It's very odd phrasing.

I think people are filling in the blanks on the phone call…the civil suit says ‘he told her she should get tested for an std’ as far as I know which in a legal sense isn’t really admitting to anything.

I understand that the team did what it felt was necessary, and I do hope that the truth is found and that justice gets done.

But I still can't help but wonder what it must be like for Araiza...especially if his only mistake was getting sexually involved with a 17 YO that may have been telling him and others there that she was 18.

He’s still way too close to this story to remain with the team.  If that is truly all he did then if he is eventually charged a jury will decide if ‘she told me she was 18’ is a reasonable defense in this case. Mistake of age appears to be a valid defense in California especially if the person involved is close to the age of consent and her diary says ‘I told him I went to grossmont’ which is both a high school and a college so that will likely be his defense.

Is all this silly hype and anticipation simply about Araiza getting released? When he does, then what? Hugs? What exactly are people craving to hear?

Hopefully they address the initial 53, some of the injury decisions, and fringe roster competition.

It was really hanging over the head of the season imo….some things are bigger than football and it wouldve been hard to root for a team that was going to bat for someone in araizas position

I don't know this young lady but Brian Bank's false accuser didn't shy away from the scrutiny.

Maybe 90% of rape allegations are true but not all are.  Araiza's lawyer says it's a money-grab.   Maybe so, maybe not.   I'd love to see what the police have.

Both these lawyers are clowns.  When people hear ‘money grab’ they assume its an accusation that the victim is making the whole story up.  But it seems like he meant it’s a ‘money grab’ on behalf of the lawyer because the victim truly doesn’t know who attacked her so they’re going after the person she interacted with earlier in the night who happens to have some money.

no idea why he used the phrase money grab though this girl was unquestionably attacked by someone.
On the flip side the action of the victims lawyer comes off that they likely know Matt wasn’t present for the gang rape but they are trying hard to bully him into a settlement because he is in the public eye. Really strange he leaked the diary that confirms Matt may have had reason to believe she was college age and that she didn’t know who was present for the gang rape.   the civil suit mentions her and Matt had sex earlier in the night which makes the rape kit meaningless as far as evidence against Matt goes.

I’d definitely still cut him but the bills will likely face a wrongful termination suit from the nflpa on this one…it seems like he’s not going to be charged.
