How do you judge a good defense?
Hampton Josh fan replied to BritBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great defenses hold teams to low point totals (under 17) and low total yards (under 250). With that being said, to me a winning defense, shuts down teams in the late stages with the game on the line. The Bills were a good defense last season, but that 4th qtr.was not what defines a big time defense. 3rd and 18 stands out. -
Thank you for the inspirational message. I sense a pent up animosity towards anyone questioning your superior talent evaluation skills. Especially after 2 years featuring a playoff berth, dismissing a high 1st round draft choice as not being able to win a championship. Finally, I made the assumption, (ignorantly)that your assessment about JA17 was out of the defeatist attitude that you might have developed over the last 20 years of watching incompetence dominate the organization Please, if I insulted you, my apologies. Happy holidays.

I can see how you might say that. The difference is Diggs was a great teammate until Cousins started phasing him out of the offense. His body language showed frustration. He was a good soldier with Keenum. Ramsey gets personal fouls in big spots if things do go his way, and bad mouths coaches and teammates.

Jalen Ramsey, who is a me first, hot dog, losing player, should not be advising an all-pro, team first guy, like Tre. Ramsey is a cancer and will try and destroy any team he plays for if he does not get star treatment. Why do you think the Jags gave up on him.Talent is great, but if you don't prioritize the team and winning ,you are a net loss as a player.

That's sounds right, a delusional fan, who has lived in mediocrity his whole life expecting a HOF QB to fall out of the sky. Here's the good news.We don't need JA17 to be Mahomes. This team just has to improve every year and JA will be good enough to take us to the promised land. Can he be ELI, or Foles or Flacco or Dilfer. In 58 years we've had 1 HOF QB. Zero rings.

Aiyuk undergoes surgery: could he fall to us?

Good thing Sanders dropped out of the Presidential race, he would have wiped out the insurance industry. Duke is not quitting on football any time soon. My gut feeling is that he plays this year for an NFL team. -

I would go Claypool , and that would be pretty formidable. If Knox developed, wow. -

Maybe he should have, but if you watch that 4th qtr., JA was looking for Duke and he was the only one getting separation. At the risk of sounding irrational, I think the rookie needs another look. -

That would have cemented his spot going forward. It would have been a great grab, but he did get two hands on it. Maybe I'm being a fan, but I want to see him go to camp and compete for a spot. Easy guy to root for. -

Remember Duke was essentially a rookie and produced in limited action. I like him because he makes plays in traffic and gets separation (ie Jets and Houston) Sometimes a guy like Duke benefit from a better receiver corp -
5th year option on Allen or bid on Watson in FA in 22

Maybe it's wishful thinking. Let's hope he gives us a good ride before we get there. -
5th year option on Allen or bid on Watson in FA in 22

This will be my final installment. Kelly was a Bills draft choice back in 83 and his first instinct was to play in the USFL. Point being, elite free agent QBs aren't coming here. The Bill's offense was subpar last year and JAs running was a huge positive. Gore was MIA in the last half of the. season. Brown was solid, but when the Texans decided to take him away, the Bill's were JA runs and plays he pulled out of his behind, running for his life. Why call it hero worship, it's a young talent on the come. Think about contingencies all you want, there all worse than being a big Josh fan. -

How many elite free agent QBs have come to Buffalo in the team's history. If you said none, you'd be correct. I guess during the lockdown, dreaming is allowed. Josh went 10 and 5 in year 2, without a #1 receiver.. Where are you going with this argument ? -

I guess hypotheticals are pert of message boards, but I just can't see Watson being worth blowing your cap flexibility for minimal difference in productivity. If the criticism is warranted and trading out of a high draft choice is needed, I'd be all in. -

OK, I understand diminishing my defending Josh response, but can you unequivocally tell me this young guy doesn't read every post on this board that question his ability, or Buffalo fans belief in him. Yea, it's only sport, but with all this time on everyone's hands, why not support a guy that gives his all. Your entitled to think it's frivolous, but I've bled internally with this team and finally I see some light. -

I'm sure Josh will make his money if he wins games and especially playoff games, but just my opinion, he would be more likely to give a team friendly deal in order to keep the team at a high level, like Brady -

No, just questioning why the guy who gets the team out of purgatory should all of a sudden be replaced by a guy retailing at 40 million a year and 45% of the cap. The optimum situation is sticking with the guy you drafted if you win with him. -

Then there's the matter of 35million a year on a guy that won't win you more games than the guy you have at substantially less. Why are you confident that JA doesn't take a huge step forward with a better supporting cast. Listen, you're a fan of Watson, god bless. I forgot, the persecuted, woe is me Bills fan, has a mandate to think every promising young player will crap the bed eventually. -

Your response is well taken and reasonable. My problem, as a JA fan, is more with a thread that is disrespectful to a young developing QB, who is making progress and shouldn't have to see people in a great fan base ,questioning his viability going forward. This guy takes responsibility for every loss and will leave his body on the field to get this team a win. You can see his teammates respect and he loves being in Buffalo. No disrespect meant towards Watson, but JA should be given a season with good receivers, especially a legit #1, before reaching for Watson. JA has been as good or better than the other QBs drafted before him in his draft. -

Good take. Wilson and Mahomes are the gold standard. -

He will be fine without Hopkins? Why is his agent trying get him out of Houston and Bill O'Brien fired. Would you bet your car that Watson leads the Texans to a better record than last year. Hopkins made White look pedestrian in leading Houston to victory in the playoff game. Look at his stats in the 4th qtr of that game. How many guys not named Julio Jones, does that? Just give Allen one year with legit receivers and Dabol the confidence to open up the offense in the 2nd half of games and rational fans will not be looking to dump a freak athlete who wants to be here. -

Don't want to get into a back and forth on this hypothetical thread, but what criteria would you use to give a max ,free agent QB contract to Watson as opposed to extending a winning young QB who loves being a Bill. -

I wonder how your supreme confidence will hold up when Watson's receiving corps is deployed with no Hopkins. This would be similar to what JA went to war with in the playoffs. Watson is a very good QB, and is below 500 in playoffs with a serious injury on his resume. You want to tie your wagon to him, best of luck.
