I said a half dozen times today, the team needed to execute in all 3 phases of the game and the team needed to play fearless the entire game. Obviously that didn't happen.

I don't know if McDermott didn't have confidence in the offense or was over confident in his defense. But having the offense Settle for FG's instead of being more aggressive at obtaining TD's. And I am not exactly sure what caused our defense to give up a 16pt lead. It is mind boggling.

You can't hold QB's like Watson down forever. Another reason why when you have the opportunity to step on a teams throat, you gotta go for it.

All it takes is one play...fooled in coverage, missed tackle, penalty, etc.

Watson eventually broke through and made plays. Less than 20 points isn't gonna cut it against a playmaker like Watson...it's just not.

Why can't McD step to the mike and say we have to pledge a new philosophy next year, step on peoples throats, stay aggressive the whole game, and finish people off. When you blow a 16 pt lead in basically the fourth Qtr of a playoff game, you own it SEAN!!!!

Makes me wonder exactly what coach is made of if he resorts to this type of response TBH.

Im not really all that upset by it but for the sake of discussion these are the rules...

ARTICLE 5. FREE KICK CROSSES GOAL LINE

It is a touchback, if a free kick:

    1. touches the ground in the end zone before being touched by the receiving team.
    2. goes out of bounds behind the receiving team’s goal line;
    3. strikes the receiving team’s goal post, uprights, or cross bar; or
    4. is downed in the end zone by the receiving team.

The ball was never downed.  It technically should have been called a TD Bills according to the rules.  Waving your arms and tossing the ball is not downing the ball. There is nothing in the rules that says "obviously giving yourself up" can be used to make the call.  The rule is you have to down the ball.

This is all you need to see.

Dont give me the common sense prevails thing. Rules are rules for a reason and the returner didn't follow them. Mistakes are why games are lost, and that was a huge mistake by an idiot that didn't know the rules or just decided not to abide by them.

Either way it should've been enforced. To change this is the refs not following the rules, so now when Ford gets called for a BS blindside block that really wasn't, that should now be looked at as something they maybe shouldn't have called...see how that works.

But it didn't, and there will be no repercussions for the refs that clearly botched following the rules which is their job.

Because he clearly gave himself up and that would have been the most horrendous call in the history of the sport, just my opinion though.

But yet a blindside block that wasn't really a blindside block is ok in overtime when it completely changes the complexion and possibly the outcome of the game?

Just YE OLE’s 2 cents... what you’re saying is true, but none of these rules are called in a vacuum. Things like intent, severity, and a host of other factors always come into play.

The odd second half kickoff/TD they took off the board is a perfect example. To the letter of the law, the official obviously didn’t feel like he gave himself up and called it a TD. However “after discussion” they reversed it and the term “common sense” started getting thrown around in ensuing analysis of the whole debacle. To the letter of the law, there also holding, PI, illegal contact, etc. on a majority of snaps. Watt, 100% landed his full weight on Allen at one point, which we’ve seen called and then not called. All of the rules are called subjectively, so things like intent and “spirit of the rule” always come into play.

Again... YE OLE’s two cents is they generally let them play all day, and didn’t call a very tight game. Nobody was getting injured based on Ford’s actions. That’s a really tough call to make in OT of a playoff game.

    Exactly!

If you wanna change the rule that the Titans clearly broke by not kneeling or signaling fair catch by using common sense, then they need to realize that that call against Ford at that junction of the game should not be called.

But of course only the Texans get that benefit, along with numerous other calls.

It's not surprising, but always stings a bit when you have to tolerate this crap year after year.
