Tomlin is a great person by all accounts. I was listening to a former play - didn’t catch the name - and they said back in their playing days he BEGGED Tomlin to let him play after an injury. Even brought in doctors and so forth to convince Tomlin. After a bit, he kicked everyone out of the room except the player and told him “if you were my child, I wouldn’t let you play” and that was that. He cares about his players.

Ryan Clark. He also was on ESPN last night. Really good guy.

Would you stop driving your car just because you come across a crash scene?  Probably not.  Most players finish long careers with a variety of scars and healed broken bones, but very very few are disabled, and on the other end of the spectrum, some walk away without any damage at all.  Most guys probably figure they'll end up in the middle of the spectrum, having achieved their life's goal of playing for years in the NFL.

In addition the odds of dying in a car crash are 1 in 107. Much higher than in a football game. I don’t think those odds have caused people to stop driving/riding in cars.

    Probably not.

they know it’s a dangerous game, and have seen guys paralyzed. I think the retirement talk is larger being a prisoner of the emotions of the moment- on Sunday they will be nfl players, and for many it’s everything they ever dreamed of, even knowing the risk.

hell, the concussion stuff illustrates the need for outsiders to intervene and stop the players from hurting themselves

Agreed. In addition, to my knowledge, this is the first injury of its kind in NFL history, meaning it’s a once in a lifetime type event. While we are all concerned for Hamlin’s health and recovery, there are risks in everyday life that probably greater than what happened last night.

Players have retired early plenty of times before this and I'm sure we'll see more.

Generally that’s because of injuries they’ve sustained and risks of those injuries going forward. Frankly, I’d be shocked to see anyone retire, who is otherwise healthy, because of last night.

And particularly this way. Half their losses are without Tua. Their entire season was derailed by this issue. They have a deep and skilled roster and I’d be curious to eavesdrop into their QB evaluation this off-season.

Yea, but Tua had lost 4 straight so it’s not like they were playing great with him.

I think the cold weather had a lot to do with our rushing performance. Both Ds seemed to be playing with concrete shoes.

inexplicably, the Bears decided to stop running while we, fighting all team tendencies, kept at it and the score reflected those decisions.

    Again, just eyeball observations.

Not really. Bears had 29 rushes for 80 yards and Bills had 31 rushes for 254. Bills were moving just fine. Bears not so much.

This isn’t true at all. I think it largely comes from Tre taking 12 months to come back, so the fan base has turned it into some noble venture.

Allen is playing with an injury to his throwing arm.

Poyer played a game where he wasn’t healthy enough to get on an airplane.

Cole Beasley played on a broken leg.

Mitch Morse will likely be cleared to play at some point after his 6th NFL concussion. Not counting juniors or college.

Tommy Doyle played a game with a torn ACL and McD praised his toughness for doing it in the post game.

None of those instances are player for at precautions. The Tua thing is a disaster for the NFL, the Dolphins, and McDaniels. But the Bills aren’t some holier than thou franchise when it comes to injuries.

You are comparing apples to grapefruits. Playing with a bad leg or elbow is far different than playing with concussion symptoms. The brain is a delicate organ and concussions can lead to permanent disability and death.

As cliche as it sounds - “Trust the process”.

Even in the first Miami game, we were the better team.  A lot of “fans” looked at the results rather than the process.  Despite all of the Bills’ injuries, the team assembled (players and staff) is still better than the competition.

Agreed. We outgained the Phins by a whopping 300 yards. Even yesterday we more than doubled the Bears in yards. This is a dominant team.

He flashes some big time pass rush ability but his consistency is all over the place. It is telling that since Von went down the Bills second most used D end after Greg is Shaq - because he is reliable, he can be trusted to know and play his assignment and doesn't make many mental mistakes.

AJE is having his best year as a pro, that's for sure, but I still don't know that he is more than a situational rusher.

Since this is a passing league, situational pass rushers are very valuable.

topic drift.... who has bigger home field advantage on a random day in january for a playoff game: buffalo or miami?  i'd argue miami.  in buffalo it's not always bone chilling cold or snowing.

regardless the number 1 seed this year has a lot of value because we are still a paper tiger, and a pretender. we haven't had the success of the chiefs or bengals. the slight advantage of playing either at home (or anyone else) is yuge.

And it’s not 100 degrees in Miami in January.

The actual temperature and crazy low wind chill, in and of itself, wouldn't be a reason to adjust the timing or location of the game.

But blizzard/dangerous driving conditions in/around Chicago at the worst time, or even around Buffalo if impacts ability to travel to Chicago, could be a reason to adjust the game IMHO.

Agreed. Don’t think the league wants to risk both player and fan safety.

play the Bears and Patriots games in Detroit for sure, because ya know, it’s winter so it’s cold.

Cincinnati maybe that one happens as scheduled but let’s monitor that as it gets cold in Southern Ohio as well

Temp down here in southern Ohio looks great for Monday 1/2. Around 40 degrees and no precipitation.
