Agree - I don't understand why so many associate not wanting to waste a spot on a single gunner who contributes nothing else to the team to saying that ST are not important.  These are the reasons to me why the team does not fall apart if Jones is not on it

    - Bass kickoffs into endzone = less kickoff returns

    - Bills punted least in the NFL last year - an average of 2.6 times/game - this could even be less this year with better offense

    - Haack is excellent in punts downed inside the 20 (114 of 307 kicks in career - 37%!) = even less punt returns to cover

    - Taiwan Jones does not make every tackle on STs - other players can tackle too!

    - Bills emphasize acquiring/drafting/developing players with ST ability - a well coached ST unit (stay in your lanes!) with many talented ST players should be able to cover kicks effectively regardless of whether Taiwan Jones is on the field

In today’s game there really isn’t much need for a player who only plays ST. As stated only a couple punts/kickoffs per game actually get returned. If they think Jones can contribute on offense then he makes sense, but since he didn’t play a single down of offense in the preseason I suspect the team isn’t looking at him for any offense.

Do we know what Sweeny's injury is, and the timetable for recovery.  I think the notion of cutting Hollister in hopes of signing him after putting Sweeney on a post 53 IR is kind of risky.  Maybe Buffalo is hoping Sweeney is healthy for the Pittsburgh game.

Again, it’s about the vested vet rule. Hollister doesn’t go through waivers. They already have a deal with him to resign tomorrow. This happens all the time. It’s about roster management.

I don’t think 1 game can make people ignore the 3 years of tape Trubisky already has.

I think Trubisky is what he is. A guy that’s probably best suited as a backup who can come in keep you competitive for a handful of games if needed. I don’t think there’s any chance he’s going to be a long term starter for anyone anymore.

I think it’s more about coaching and systems. I think he is better than several starters in the league right now, including some in our division.

You'd be surprised how many people will buy into a player that has performed poorly all being the fault of 'coaching' (regardless of the actual coaching).

Well then we’ll see how Dalton does this year with that vaunted Chicago coaching staff.

Basically these two posts are what i have to say. If Breida has a place on the team, it's as an explosive speed back. But he actually needs to get the ball in space, to be of maximum value.  Most of the chances he's had in preseason are pretty standard inside the tackle running plays. He probably isn't going to light it up on those.

If they've already decided he's on the roster, then I don't expect the Bills to show much of what they have in store for him. If he is closer to the bubble, then I'd expect to see him get a few more advantageous looks. If not for the Bills then perhaps as a bit of advertising for a possible (but unlikely) trade.

Actually you saw what the Bills plan with him on that little swing pass where he broke a tackle and got down to the half yard line. He has something none of the other backs possess-speed in open space. Yes, he will be on the 53.

Everything we're seeing on the field from the Bills at this point is as vanilla as it gets. It's not even Breyer's Natural Vanilla, it's more like the Great Value Vanilla. These guys are just out here to get some work in and get used to live game speed. In actuality I'd bet the coaches already have an idea of everyone making the roster except for maybe 5 total slots that are truly up for grabs.

I've liked the Stevenson pick from the jump. I've always thought that he has the potential to be what Foster could have been. Stevenson tracks the ball better in the air though and has that ST's value to go along with being a burner.

Couldn’t agree more. The practices really give the staff the opportunity to make the evaluations. It’s the last few spots on the roster that come down to preseason game performance.
