  1. Thoughts on defending the Patriots:

    1. At this time, NE does not have a running game.

    2. They are going to pass. A lot.

    3. Brady is going to get the ball out in milliseconds, because he figures it out pre-snap.

    So:

Don't bring heat. Play heavy pass coverage and mix it up. Make the Patriots go all the way down the field. You can hold them under 20.

Again... Don't blitz! Against Brady, it's a waste of defenders. You're not going to get there on time.

    Thoughts on attacking the Patriots:

Don't get cute. Play straightforward ball-control football. Stay ahead of the chains, give the young quarterback manageable third downs, and hope he uncorks a couple of big plays.

If you come out trying to showcase Allen throwing the ball in this game, it's going to be lost quickly. He's a great player, but he's not far enough in his development to be "unleashed" as a passer against a Belichick defense.

    Overall:

Right now, the Bills are the healthier, more talented team overall heading into this matchup. Unfortunately, that advantage does not extend to QB and coaching. The game result will depend on how far the Bills have come in those two areas.

"We all expected big strides from the 21-year-old in his second NFL season, but in these first three games, Edmunds has been a ghost. He has 19 tackles, only one for lost yardage, and two pass breakups."

That's a ghost? 5 tackles a game, pass breakups, and a tackle for loss?

Uh, yeah. Five tackles per game is extremely low for an MLB

Yeah, this has never gone well for us in the past once we start getting the media love.

The team hasn't been able to handle success in the past. If we were playing a bad team this week, I'd be super worried about a letdown -- but the fact that we're playing the Patriots guards against that and is very good IMO. Now, if we beat NE, I will be very concerned @TEN.

  4. The Patriots have big weaknesses on offense. If it were any other team, we'd be licking our chops:

Bad injuries on OL. Marshall Newhouse is their starting LT!

    No TEs

    No FB

    No running game

Possibly injured Edelman, no AB, Gordon lost a step

McDermott should be capable of shutting down this offense. Is he good enough? If the Patriots have success on offense, that probably means they have better coaching than us. I'm looking for McD to step up big this week and make Brady look 42.

The big question will be, Can we score? The Patriots D is legit. If the Bills can score 20 points, they should win the game

Not having Edelman would be big.

BB is gonna take away Brown and bracket Beasley as @thebandit27 has pointed out. Our TEs need to make plays early to get BB to come off that. Allen will have his hands full pith various looks, etc. so Daboll really has to be on his game as well.

Why can BB "take away" players and other coaches can't? What's the magical difference...

If the Bills make mistakes they lose this game.  Keep in mind the Bengals almost beat the Seahawks in Seattle.

A point that seemingly no one is making is that Seattle has a history of starting slow. I actually picked the Bengals to win that game because of Seattle's slow starts and the fact that it was the first game of the season for a rookie head coach and Seattle wasn't sure what to expect.

  7. Posted in the score thread, but just to spread the word...

Andy Dalton is 4-1 against the Bills; in fact, 5-1 if you include the beat-down in the 3rd preseason game last year. We also shouldn't dismiss the fact that that was Josh's first game with the starters and it did not go well. Even though it was preseason, don't think for a second that that doesn't give the Bengals more confidence, and it probably puts a chip on Josh's shoulder as well, which could be good or bad.
