Ron Borges Boston Globe sports writer Ron Borges had been suspended for two months without pay and forbidden from making TV appearances for plagiarizing a Washington reporter’s column. “Ron Borges has been suspended for two months without pay because he plagiarized from a reporter at another news organization in a notes column published in Sunday’s Sports section,” Globe Editor Martin Baron said in a statement. “He also has been prohibited from making broadcast appearances during the next two months,” Borges swiped numerous paragraphs for his Sunday column from reporter Mike Sando’s Feb. 25 story in the News Tribune of Tacoma, Wash. The piece was about the possible trade of Seattle Seahawks football player Darrell Jackson. The allegations were first reported on www.coldhardfootballfacts.com Sunday night. “It appears to be more or less verbatim of what we had in our paper here a week ago Sunday,” said Dale Phelps, deputy managing editor at the News Tribune. “It’s an unfortunate situation.” At the end of Borges’ column is a disclaimer that says, “material from personal interviews, wire services, other beat writers, and league and team sources was used in this report.” Despite the disclaimer, Kelly McBride, the ethics group leader at the Poynter Institute, called Borges’ column plagiarism.

Going down to 35 below zero all roads closed

London is southwest of my community and while not really far away weather conditions are a great deal different. Crops are always a little earlier for instance. Yes our area gets regular snow squalls that come off of Lake Huron. Today we are amidst a snow squall/ high wind warning, thus the extreme cold temperatures and dangerous roads, my area of Perth County snow plough were taken off the roads at 10:00 am until it is safe for them to clear the roads, all roads in Perth county are closed. Actually north of Toronto on highway 400 there was a white out related 75 car accident, tractor trailer on fire, buses, trucks, every kind of vehicle, fortunately only two people were seriously hurt. Regarding freezing , this is how we skate and play hockey on the farm fields and ponds in our area. Regarding metric conversion as stated their is a point where the numbers almost become the same. Tonight it will go down to -37 c which = 34.8 Fahrenheit. -

Broncos talking 3rd-round pick trade for Willis?
millbank replied to cåblelady's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Having Willis available only gives the Bills and Willis an idea as to how other teams value him. The Bills will not trade him if they cannot get value for him. At present a number two is the very least they should take from anyone. But draft day its very possible a player Bills value very well may fall into a third round . If teams such as Denver, New York have not made signing prior to draft and teams continue to have discussion with them, the Bills knowing they have that third pick option, they can and will draft and trade accordingly. But I doubt very much in spite of recent happenings are the Bills so disenchanted with Willis they would give him away for nothing. Willis is a good not great back that can and will do a fine job for Bills this season. -

NHL to Conduct hearing on hit this afternoon The NHL is expected to conduct a hearing Saturday afternoon, following up on Devils' tough guy Cam Janssen's hit on Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle. Based on how late the hit occured, it is believed Janssen will be suspended.

A interesting note on Kyte. He wore hearing aids in each ear and was the first legally deaf person to play in NHL........

Huge difference between the Sabres at present and Leafs. The Sabres are playing out the season, they could afford to lose a game to prove a point. To often in this day of immediate gratification we apply this thinking to games like hockey, where men have cooled there personal issues with each other for the sake of the team, and wait another day to even the score. Actually last night with the Leafs remaining cool, keeping it together and getting the two points likely at the end of this season will be pointed to as a big reason why they make playoffs, this doing a great deal more for team unity. This devils time will come.
-
I think they do, but even at that the Leafs if they still have a shot at playoffs , have to leave this be. There will be another day. As Harry Neale was saying Bobby Baun had hit Gordie Howe a shot, Gordie got even , ten years later. What is scary here is there will be a great deal of fuss about this hit and given no penalty was called and it appears league again will do nothing about a head shot, the next hit will catch all the suspension others before should have. Guys have to play the game with one eye where they are going and one eye on where the other guy is , its a mans game. But there also has to be respect, currently respect for each other is lacking in game.
-
Of course it was late, of course they should have called a penalty, but Leafs needing every point they can get had to remain cool and wait another day to get even. They retaliate , end up with guys in the box, game over two points lost. They remained cool , to the coaches credit as he gathered team together right after this hit happened, kept it together and won game. There will be another day to have a talk with this Devil.

Hit on Tomas Kaberle last evening Forget the anti- Leaf bias, I am really curious as to what folks think of this hit..... Leafs coach called the team over as a group, told them they are in a playoff race, last night no time to retaliate or get even. No penalty on play gwf

Sexist Remark Boston Celtics radio analyst Cedric Maxwell will offer an on-air apology during Wednesday night's game for saying that a female referee should "go back to the kitchen" after he disagreed with one of her calls, a station official said. He subsequently said "Go in there and make me some bacon and eggs, would you?" in reference to referee Violet Palmer. -yikes the horror of telling a women to get in the kitchen....
