  1. he said they were the top three interior linemen in that draft. Huge difference.

Yeah, not sure Urbik has the footwork to be a RT in this league. Once Wang gets healthy, they should start this line:

    Bell - Levitre - Wood - Urbik - Wang

Hangartner and Green are nothing more than career backups. Since this season is practically over, it's time to start the youth movement.

  2. Bills are never moving to Toronto. $750 million for the team. Billion dollars relocation fee. Billion dollars for a new stadium. Untold millions for the litany of lawsuits that would be filed. Toronto draws next to nothing for the Bills games. Most of the tickets have been given away to fill the Rogers Center. The ticket prices are too high for the one game already. They don't count Canadian TV ratings in the USA. That would hurt advertising. Toronto wouldn't support a full time NFL team. I could go on and on and on.

All that said, what I do so is the NFL going to an 18 game regular season and Toronto getting 2 regular season Bills games. That is the extent of it in my opinion.

    Agreed.

  3. I think you can count on the Bills winding up in Ontario, whether its downtown Toronto or at a new stadium elsewhere like Hamilton. I think this whole Toronto series is the prelude. For all we know the $78M was Rogers down payment to Ralph for th Bills.

That said, I also think the NFL will insist that some games are still played in Orchard Park. The league doesn't want another franchise move black eye so they will call it "regionalization." A new Canadian owner will assume the team after Ralph passes. They will split the schedule between the two stadiums, then play more in Toronto. At some point they will build a new stadium and claim RWS is obsolete. By then we'll see the Bills for one annual pre-season game.

Now Bills fans can pout about it or they can just accept that's how it's going to be. The team will only be 90 minutes away max. Anyone who still wants to buy (much more expensive) season tickets and get a passport or enhanced drivers license will still be able to watch the Bills live. For everyone else the games will still be on TV. IMO, after the initial shock, people will just accept it and still follow the Bills, especially if they get good again.

    Doubtful.

  4. Stew Barber, Ralph Wilson...

This story could go right next to the thread about how Wilson isn't cheap. They invite a guy to dinner and then don't show up or even call, real class.

From what I can recall the difference between the team and TC was only 20k, the bigger problem was that Stew Barber had no business being a GM and was a total jerk to players as he thought he was better then them, he was an ex player himself.

The thing is... I think the guy would have been a much better LB had he come to Buffalo and learned the pro's from Knox and his staff.

I took care of that. I'm curious to see how the "Ralph isn't cheap" brigade will spin this one.

  5. Another example of how childish and small-minded the owner is when Rich got the naming rights to the stadium the furious owner would not allow any of the Rich products to be sold in the stadium. So the coffee creamers and other products were replaced by substitute products.

Not only is the owner incompetent he can also be vindictive when he doesn't get his way. What a brat.

Hopefully he's not vindictive enough to prevent the Rich family from eventually buying the Bills and keeping them in Buffalo.

  6. I think the odds are poor that the Bills stay in the immediate Buffalo area, but I do think if they move it may not be far away; to Toronto or Southern Ontario. There are too many people and too much money there to ignore.

    PTR

They've been saying that about LA for 15+ years now...and still no team. You think Toronto is a more promising market than LA? Both need new stadiums, but Toronto has half the population plus the CFL issue.

  7. Jauron wasn't here. Brohm was signed after Jauron was fired.

Wow. So that's your response? The offense was so much more improved and different under the defensive coordinator, Fewell, that Brohm had no excuse for sucking in that Atlanta game?

Your pathologically strong anti-Brohm opinion is now starting to creep me out. Can we at least give him - say - the preseason to confirm that he doesn't possess the talent and confidence to start in the NFL? Brohm has had all of 2 Green Bay preseasons and 1 regular season Buffalo start to prove himself. Lots of great NFL QB's have started their careers out worse than Brohm has done with more time to showcase their skills than that (and by comparison, Trent is now up to 3 preseasons and 32 regular season starts).

  8. I'm basing it on the fact that no QB drafted as high as Brohm has ever been waived without ever playing like he was, cleared waivers, and then was brought in by another team and did anything in the NFL. Players drafted as highly as Brohm who get waived so soon & don't get immediately picked up are so flawed that there is a reason that no team even put in a waiver claim on him. Teams have waived undrafted & late round QBs at the same stages of their careers & teams have put waiver claims in on them. The Packers are not a poorly run stupid team-they saw nothing in him last September that they wanted to keep-they preferred the 53rd man over him. 31 other GMs yawned when Brohm went on waivers. You're talking about guys like Polian & Newsome among other top executives. They all have pro scouts & the college scouting reports and keep tabs on all players with as high a profile as Brohm had-they unanimously said NO to getting Brohm for free. The professionals have a lot more data on these players than you, I, or any other Bills fan on this board. Also-don't throw that GB wanted to match the Bills contract crap that the Brohm ball boys love to say. The only reason they tried to match was because it was November & he knew the system-nothing more than trying to keep a cheap insurance policy. If they were as interested in him as the ball boys say, they would have tried to keep him by exceeding the Bills offer-they didn't.

There are a lot of QBs who have played next to no regular season games-why not bring every QB who gets cut in here-you could claim the same thing about him as you are Brohm. Years ago Bills fans loved Gary Marangi for the same reason. Once Marangi played, he was out of the league.

No matter how you spin it, Brohm was dreadful in his one start, one & done for me. Just because you don't like what you see in Edwards & Fitzpatrick, it doesn't make Brohm any better. He's a bust & he'll always be one-he would be happy to match Jeff's career.

You made some respectable points in this post..until the last paragraph. Brohm played one game for us last year, under Dick Jauron's expert tutelage, with a depleted offensive line and without much time to learn the playbook. If that confirms to you that "he's a bust and will always be one," what does that say about the guy whom you claim in an earlier post to be our only chance of making the playoffs? Edwards has been given almost THREE FULL SEASONS here to develop into something more than an injury-prone master of the checkdown and of the 3-and-out?

The way I see it, Brohm is a high football-IQ guy with the requisite physical skills to be a capable starting NFL QB. For whatever reason, he has lost confidence in himself. I don't know if he'll ever regain it. Same can be said for Edwards, I suppose. Maybe this team needs to add a QB psychologist to the coaching staff.

  9. On a related note, anyone know the latest on the LA stadium? The Chargers situation with SD? The Jags situation? Rams? Vikings?

The sooner that LA market gets filled, the better for us Buffalo Bills fans. After LA, the relocation climate looks a lot better. Toronto would still be a danger, but it has serious issues regarding a new stadium, the CFL, and non-hockey sport apathy.

  10. I could see Gailey doing this:

    1. Jackson as the RB getting the bulk of the carries

    2. Lynch playing more of a hybrid RB/FB role who sees carries on 3rd-and-short and red zone packages

    3. Spiller playing more of a hybrid RB/second WR role who sees carries on 3rd-and-long and various gadget/reverse plays.

I'd go so far as to say that all 3 should be in the offense's base formation in the aforementioned roles. Wouldn't you rather see more of Lynch than McIntyre? More of Spiller than Johnson/Hardy/Parrish?

  11. You couldnt have said that any better...I dont understand how anyone can say that Ralph isnt cheap

    It's easy when:

    A. You are unaware that the Buffalo Bills even existed before 1990 and have never heard of guys like Joe Cribbs and Chuck Knox.

    ...and...

    B. You have a nasty case of battered wife syndrome with RW's Bills and conveniently forget more recent instances like the Wade Phillips contract fiasco, Pat Williams in early 2005, the endless parade of 1st rd free agent CB's leaving town, etc.

  12. I am not sure about Kelsey being the slowest OLB in the league, I did a quick check of his 40 time

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/...ayers/2573.html

This draft grade in interesting, read what they say

or just read this...the analysis is the most interesting part, oh and his 40 time was 4.71...Calvin Pace was 4.75 Lance Briggs was 4.74

POSITIVES: Explosive and athletic pass rusher who may be best standing up over tackle. Tough but also smart and plays an intelligent brand of football. Quick anticipating the action, disciplined and stays with his assignments. Gets off the ball with a good first step, keeps his pads low and feet driving up the field. Immediately alters his angle of attack, flatens and pursues from the backside displaying great range with the ability to make plays in any direction of the field. Effective off the line playing in space and quickly closes on the action with a burst of closing speed. Fast enough to beat ball carriers to the flanks or cut off the corners from running backs. Works hard to rush the passer, deceptively strong and defeats two blockers on his way up the field. A warrior who plays while injured.

NEGATIVES: Lacks bulk and has difficulty with big blockers. Though he held up against the run in college, may not be able to do so at the next level.

ANALYSIS: Kelsay's athleticism and tenacity, coupled with his football intellect gives him the possibility at a variety of positions. Could grow into an every down defensive end in a four-three alignment but his movement skills and ability to immediately redirect to the action gives him a lot of potential at outside linebacker in a 34 defense.

Good find, frogger, but keep in mind that analysis was written when Kelsay was 21 years old. He's now on the wrong side of 30. Everyone's laughing at Eddie Robinson for being too slow in 2002, but the younger Eddie Robinson was actually a pretty decent OLB for the Oilers/Titans. The Eddie Robinson the Bills ended up with was only a year or two older than what Kelsay is now.

Kelsay hardly generated a pass rush when in his prime, playing opposite Schobel and yards closer to the QB...now, of all times, people are coming out of the closet in support of this guy? Do some of you people post for the sake of being argumentative? Or is it the usual preseason rose-colored glasses?

I'm not at all happy with Maybin and Ellis as our potential starters, but I'd rather take my chances with these guys and see what we have. If the 2010 season is going to be another season of missing the playoffs, let's at least get some questions answered regarding some of the unproven young guys on the roster. Kelsay has had a long time to prove he can't get it done at the pro level.

  13. ellis is very much like maybin, he's better suited at OLb NOT DE, so maybe he gets a stay of execution, but mccargo should be booted on day one of camp, no questions asked.

Agreed. Plus look at the OLB competition:

    Schobel - probably retiring

Kelsay - will be slowest OLB in the history of pro football

Batten - rookie from small college program

Moats - same, plus more of an ILB

Torbor - seems more of the solid backup type than a legit NFL starter

    Ellison -

    Manalac - who?

Coleman - undrafted rookie, though I've read promising things about him on this board

Harris - converted safety, undersized, no known pass rushing skills

Mitchell - health concerns, more of a 3-4 ILB

Sorry folks, but we may be looking at a Maybin-Ellis starting OLB duo in September  .

  14. This doesn't sound good at at regarding Bell:

Demetrius Bell is a raw young prospect, best known for being Karl Malone’s son. He has great potential, an impressive blend of size, strength, and agility, but at times it looks like he’s never seen a football game before. Gailey has spoken quite highly of Bell this offseason, clearly trying to bolster the young man’s confidence. His status is complicated by the torn ACL that ended his 2009, an injury that will likely keep him out until August at the earliest. His development is critical but also highly questionable, as he has not displayed the greatest work habits or maturity and has been slow to absorb coaching.

    Yikes.

Yikes is right. At this point, it looks like Meredith will win the starting LT spot this year. Imagine that: two ex-Green Bay practice squaders, Brohm and Meredith, set to start at two of the most important positions on our team.

  15. I didn't claim to know Ralph's plans. As I said, it is the leaving the fans in the dark on succession that denotes a major difference b/w the men.

GS took care of his fans by ensuring a smooth transition, not making them worry about whether they would still have a team 6 months after the big guy kicked it.

Comparing NFL to MLB is apples to oranges re: the cap. Stabilizing a franchise to exist after the death of an aged owner for sure isn't dependent on market size. RW has refused to stabilize the Bills. In fact, it's like everything has been done to ensure that the next owner will have no tie-downs to the Buffalo area. How many times have Erie, state and national pols talked about starting the process of building a new stadium and they're shot down? It's being set up so the next guy's first act will be to call the Mayflower trucks.

Yeah, pretty much. RW avoids talking about the issue to WNYers because he knows the franchise is as good as gone to Toronto or LA. And he's okay with this because it will net his family the most money. That will be this "great" man's legacy on this Earth: $$$.

  16. The bottom line is that without Ralph Wilson there would be no Buffalo Bills, there would be not excitement in the Buffalo area except for the Sabres, and there would be no twobillsdrive forum for everyone to B word about their beloved Bills.

Wow...profound insight there, buddy. And when he dies, there will again be no BUFFALO Bills. You okay with this?

  17. wilson was, is and will die a loser. in fact, he's one of the biggest losers in NFL history in terms of winning percentage and overall losses. If a player failed as badly in a 2 year career with the bills he'd be mercilessly criticized with almost no one to support him. wilson fails for the better part of 50 years and is defended. go figure.

The Buffalo Bills era from 1967-1987 was simply indefensible. Notice how even RW's biggest sycophants conveniently avoid talking about the Bills pre-Polian and focus only on the excuses for the 2000-2010+ era.

  18. I will once again make the point that Ralph Wilson, prior to the Polian Era, WAS in fact one of the cheapest owners in pro sports. Now he's just cheap with coaches and throws money around recklessly to marginally talented players.

Anyone care to dispute my post?

  19. 4 Super Bowls and 2 AFL chmapionships is nothing to sneeze at.

It really bothers me how much crap RW gets. A lot of other guys would have left Buffalo years ago. Despite the nonsense spewed here, RW have always spent money for players. His only downfall is trusting the wrong people and not knowing the right way to go about winning.

The guy kept a team in the richest professional sports league in the country in a market that has been in a population decrease for 60 years. I lvoe the guy and hope he lives forever. It will be a very sad day that moment he passes.

Since the late 1980's, this has been true. But before then, he was widely known as a major cheapskate. Ask anyone older than 30 about RW and paying players.

As for paying coaches, he has always been a cheapskate. Up until maybe now, where the rumors were that he was courting the Cowhers and Shanahans but was turned down.

RW's overall legacy will be 180 degrees between what ESPN and the national media say about him and what WNY thinks of him...for the very simple reason that he has failed to secure the team's future in WNY. To most fans of the BUFFALO Bills, Ralph Wilson = Art Modell.
