  1. Someone I know spoke with a guy who worked for Jack Kent Cooke. Take it for what it's worth (second hand info) but this guy says the NFL wants out of Buffalo, period. And the only reason they are still here is because of Ralph. Once he passes the NFL will not even listen to any bidder who will keep the Bills in WNY...or TORONTO! Apparently this guy says the NFL sees the Bills-Toronto series as a flop and doesn't even want to see the team wind up there. So where are the Bills heading? L.A. probably but apparently London, England is a possibility as well.

This is second-hand info. I have no idea who this "guy" is but my buddy is not a rumor monger. I'm just repeating what he was told. I hope it's BS.

    PTR

Jack Kent Cooke died in 1997. How strong is your guy's inside information if he's presumably been out of NFL-related work for well over a decade? The Bills-Toronto series only started in 2008, yet he's already hearing NFL guys calling it a bust? Or is that just your guy's own opinion?

I simply can't believe that the NFL would be so eager to abandon this entire region (Buffalo, Toronto, Hamilton, and Rochester). That's 9+ million people right there, 53+ years of tradition, and fairly consistent sellouts in spite of 11+ years of terrible football.

I realize that LA is a veritable goldmine for the NFL, and I do happen to be one of those people who believes that LA can eventually support 2 NFL teams. However, if I were to represent the NFL, I'd rather see one of either the Raiders or Chargers plus the Jags in LA over the Bills. Both the Raiders and Jags have history in LA, are already located close enough to the city, and - most importantly - have major stadium issues at the moment. Jacksonville has little NFL history, constant sellout issues despite usually fielding a decent team, few fortune 500 companies, a metro population size about the same as Buffalo's, and lots of competition with college football/Fins/Bucs/Falcons.

London? Come on, now. Nevermind the travel logistics. Is there enough evidence that Londoners will support American football beyond the occasional exhibition spectacle? NFL Europe failed, yet now we're going to start moving real NFL franchises overseas?

One more thing: look at the New Orleans Saints. It's a market size about the same as Buffalo's, has maybe even a worse economic situation than WNY but without the Toronto or Rochester type of markets for support, and historically has an even worse NFL tradition than the Bills. Yet very recently, the franchise upgraded the Louisiana Superdome and won a Super Bowl. Now the Saints are a huge financial success. For other small market success stories, see: Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers.

  2. I can't tell if you are being facetious, or are in actual agreement with me??

I think we've all seen the evidence that, even sticking to small talk, and trying to say the right things in attempt to endear one person or group of people, can often lead to unintended interpretations and result in the alienation of another. Even the slightest indiscretion, when widely distributed in the media, can have seemingly unimaginable consequences. I sorta feel sorry for celebraties for that reason - sorta.

I guess what I meant by "keep your twitter closed" is that, IMO, being discrete is the simplest way to maintain a positive image in the media - including the social media. By keeping your personal life and beliefs low-key, you minimize the supply of ammunition that may be used against you by potential detractors. Als

    Both.

  3. Moorman and Williams are the only 2 that one could make a legitimate case right now for deserving to be on this list.

But this is a very young team and the Bills do have some young guys who could make a push for top 100 very soon. Spiller, Wood, Johnson, Dareus, and Byrd immediately come to mind...though this could easily be wishful thinking on my part.

  4. Some sound advice - "go up there hungry", "be a shining light", "get a truck", "try to be noticed for your effort"

I'd like to add - keep your twitter closed and your ears open.

    Good luck MJ!

That's the most important advice right there. If he tweets anything outrageous like "we have a good team and are going to win a fair amount of games this season" or "it's Friday night and I'm hanging out with friends instead of reading the playbook and lifting weights" he will become a Western NY pariah.

  5. I empathize with the OP. It's difficult finding a reliable lawn mower these days. I was going through a real rough patch of shady lawn mowers until I met my current lawn mower, Eduardo, at a convention a couple years back. He later introduced me to his cousin, Roberto, who also mows lawns. Now they take turns mowing my lawn. Especially during the sultry summer seasons when my lawn really grows wild. Occasionally I will return the favor and mow their lawns on holidays and birthdays.

  6. If you're a Sabres fan you should not be rooting for any team that hasn't won a cup as of yet. Remember that misery loves company. This means absolutely no rooting for the Sharks or Canucks in the cup since barring big comebacks one of them will be there.

    Agreed.

Plus, there's a Bills-related reason for rooting for the Bruins. Allow me to explain...

Jeremy Jacobs is the owner of the Bruins. He is a very rich man from Buffalo. He's gone on record as having interest in the Bills post-Ralph. If the Bruins win a Cup, he will have already achieved his ultimate goal with the NHL. The Bruins will also be worth more upon selling if they have just won a Cup. See where I'm going with this?

It's quite possible that the very future of the Bills in Buffalo depends on the hated Bruins winning the Cup, no?

  7. We can show great promise and still go 3-13. This team is bad, We lost ugly and won ugly last year. If we lose well this year we can make progress, get Luck and go from there.

Really? How? I'm figuring that a LOT of draft picks from the past 2 years would have to seriously underachieve in order for the Bills to be picking 1st overall next spring. And if that's the case, then I will start to doubt the direction of this team under Nix and Gailey. Even if we get to 1st overall solely due to injuries, then we have an injury-prone roster on our hands.

Some of you guys take the importance of a franchise QB to extremes. There are still 52 other players on a roster; those guys matter too. Wouldn't it be far easier (and more fun) to root for Fitzpatrick developing into a very good QB while filling in the remainder of the pieces at OL, TE, and OLB via free agency and maybe another solid draft?

Hell, for all we know Luck will pull a Brian Brohm this fall. Or maybe he will sustain a concussion that turns him into mush like that previous Stanford QB who lost his mojo and did nothing but check down for the rest of his career. Those are the factors you really need to consider before supporting this franchise QB brinksmanship.

There. I've said my piece. Now digest and discuss.

  8. Oh how I love the "she's not so hot" crowd. The majority of you fat dirtbags couldn't get her to talk to you yet you act like your even remotely in her league. How about you throw up a pick of yourself and your super hot wife/girlfriend. That should be worth a laugh.

Dude...check out my sig. Peruse the photos. Temper your jealousy.

  9. Minnesota dominated in the first quarter.... Unfortunately lacrosse has four quarters. :(

I'm pulling for the Bandits though. :)

Well you lost to last year's champions, who happen to have the best offense in the league and would have been the top seed were it not for injuries. So there's no shame in losing that game. I don't see the Stealth losing in Calgary this weekend either.

As for the Bandits vs. Rock matchup, well let's just say that it will be intense:

  10. He flew under everybody's radar because to multiple small schools, Continuity was never established. The only reason why we knew of him was we supposedly got a tip from Levi Brown but when we did interact (over a year ago) with him the guy did everything that we asked him to do.

Look, I don't know if he's going to be the next Ted Washington or Pat Williams but I do have expectations of him making our roster. There's a definite role that this kid can provide for us, whether it's in short yardage situations, goal line stands or even if he only gives Darius a breather.

Not only jumping around schools, but jumping around positions.

Regarding his questionable conditioning, the guy has dropped over 50lb this year upon the recommendation of scouts. He has gone on record as saying he's willing to do whatever it takes to make this team, and the weight drop is evidence of his dedication.

  11. I don't see Kyle Williams moving to end in the 34. His arms are short and that's difficult when lining up over the offensive tackle as opposed to a guard or center. I think Dwan Edwards, Williams and Dareus are the starting 34 line.

We can pray that Moats and Merriman are the starters at OLB, but inevitably Kelsay will either see time over Moats, or once Merriman gets hurt.

Hope we re-sign Poz and Sheppard beats out Andra Davis.

Your secondary looks pretty good to me, but I think Aaron Williams will be the nickle guy. He played most of his college career in the slot.

If we can re-sign Drayton Florence, I would prefer we do that and cut ties with Terrence McGee at this point. Terrence has been a class act for us but I'd rather re-sign the younger Florence and let the often injured McGee go.

Huh?! McGee is a whopping TWO months older than Florence...

  12. To me, the most amazing stat in Bills history and the main reason why they are a losing franchise. Fifty one years without drafting a QB with their first pick in any draft.

The last time the Bills were all-in on a QB prospect was their inaugural draft of 1960 with Richie Lucas from Penn State.

Ralph has apparently never gotten over that disappointment.

I'm going to keep saying it, because it's fact. The NFL draft is a process, not an event. Sometimes you gotta take a chance on a QB. No balls, no babies.

From an individual draft pick standpoint, you gotta' love Dareus. But 5 years from now it won't make a bit of difference if Dareus is great or a bust if the Bills don't have a franchise QB.

Your thesis has merit, but not for THIS particular draft. Dareus was the right choice.

  13. This is what the Steelers do. They draft lots of middle to late round LB's and somehow end up with some real gems. I'm ok with this crazy "nothing but LB" strategy, provided Nix has plans for addressing the RT and TE positions in free agency. We have the worst LB's in the NFL, which is unacceptable for a supposed 3-4 defense.

  14. I know that there's some box LAX fans here. The Bandits have once again won their division. The Swarm managed to get the 2nd seed in their conference and host their 2nd ever home playoff game. Can't wait!!! :)

The Swarm had a season ticket holder event after the game where fans go on the field and chat with the players and get autographs. Kevin Ross, a Swarm player, noticed my Bills jacket and asked if I was a fan. Turns out he grew up in Buffalo and went to Canisius. Kinda cool. :)

Anyway, go Swarm and go Bandits! (and go Sabres tomorrow :D )

I love the NLL, and I honestly have more fun following the Bandits than I do the Bills or Sabres.

The East is completely up for grabs now. The Bandits and Rock have been backing their way into the playoffs.

I don't know much about the West, but I'm rooting for the Swarm to make it to the finals since the other 3 teams have already won championships.

Your encounter with Ross doesn't surprise me. A majority of players in the league come from the greater Golden Horseshoe region.

How are the gameday crowds out in Swarmland? Is the team catching on? Here in Buffalo, things are going great. Sellouts half the time, near sellouts the other.

  15. I'm 6'4'' 251 and I bench 325. How much $ do you want to put down?

I'm 5'10", 150 lb, and I dress up in Peter Pan costumes with all kinds of sequins and glitter. What the !@#$ is your point?! So if you and Aaron Maybin can physically knock the **** out of us, that means Maybin is going to be a good football player? Can you walk me through your logic, please?

I don't buy this "I'm a better game-day player than practice player" bull ****, as if Maybin will suddenly go from training camp fodder to Lawrence Taylor once they play him. If that's the case, then Maybin needs to start pretending like practices are actual games. As of now, he hasn't shown enough to even play on special teams.

The bottom line is that every other NFL team but the Bills and a couple retarded analysts had Maybin down as a third rounder. Knowing what we do now, he should have gone undrafted because:

    1. He has too small of a body frame to maintain an NFL-caliber DE/LB size without losing speed and agility.

    2. He has an uncoachable personality.

  16. Fairly hardcore? What would you consider very hardcore then, shaving his head and getting a Bills helmet tattooed on? :)

How about a full body tattoo of the Bills War Room on April 25, 2009, with Modrak and Brandon and Jauron standing next to the draft board as Jauron points to Maybin's name that is shown ranked ahead of Orakpo and Cushing and Matthews? That would be pretty hardcore, IMO.
