This, completely.  The Pats*** have a brutal run coming up and if they lose just one or two our game at Foxboro in W16 would be for the division if Buffalo can get there with only one more loss.  Can the Bills go 5-1 @CLE, DEN, @MIA, @DAL, BAL, @PIT?  That puts them at 11-3 and playing their biggest game in two decades.

sure, why not?   well, there are lots of reasons why not, but hey this is a fan board.  trust the process.   good progress this year.

The Bills have the easiest schedule I've ever seen. They have five quite bad teams on tap: Miami, the Jets, the Redskins, Denver, and the Browns. They also have to play one great team on the road, 1 pretty good team at home (Baltimore), and one so-so team with a very inexperienced QB who looks to be about as generic as it gets (Rudolph).  I think Miami, the Jets, the Redskins, and Denver are locks. The Browns is a winnable game but tougher, although the Bills have far better coaching.

Pittsburgh has to play Indy, the Rams, and the Ravens. They also have AZ on the road, and AZ is not bad.

The Bills are more likely to get to ten wins than Pittsburgh.

Phins will have righted the ship by the time we play them, Browns certainly will have righted their ship by the time we play them.  Every game is a game.   Looking past the Redskins is a mistake.  if Some Eagles nobody tore em up last Sunday, wait til AP sees those holes.

One game at a time boys.

I didnt want the Bills to get him.  What I mean is the Bengals could have added picks for him and saved cap they will need to help a real rebuild.  Instead they will be dumb enough to pay him with no real chance of winning jack or let him walk for free.

when they cut him, McBeanes will to move to try and sign him.  that's how our guys roll.  thankfully.

and then he'll go to the Pats or some big market team.

As always, anything is possible, but 2017 would seem to be a better marker than the Jauron/Gailey era teams. McDermott's already had a team here that went from 5-2 to 5-5 while getting gashed in the run game at a historic clip. After that Saints game where they ended the game with like 50 consecutive run plays, who could've seen that team winning another game the rest of the year? They managed to turn it around, win @KC and then break the drought. Had we came away with a win against the Eagles, YE OLE would've said we might have a run at the division here, gents. But, at this point, the most likely scenario is a 10/11 win season and a wildcard game at Indy/Baltimore. How McDermott's team fairs in that game will likely be the true test as to what the trajectory of THE PROCESS is.

please stop.   11-5 would be amazing progress.   complete reversal of last year.  the result of one game never defines a season.  I don't give a crap about winning 1st round road wild card games.   To win the SB you almost always need to win your division and get home field.   That ain't gonna happen in the AFC East unless they build a super solid program here that is based on solid decision on top of solid long term decision.   Could take a couple more years, given how broken the program was McBeanes inherited.

McD said it best today as to why no trades at the deadline.   Because they are being RESPONSIBLE and sticking to their roster building principles; I'm going with that as they are in general killing it in the personnel area.  Trust the Process.   This may take a while.

    Sean, is that you?

What are you going to do about the run defense?  Why is your MLB still attacking the wrong gaps?  Any plan for the DTs to be more effective?

What did you drill into Daboll so he'll stop outsmarting himself with his play selection?  He's your hand selected OC.

Why are special teams making critical mistakes that give the opponent an easy 7 points?  You hired your coordinator this past offseason, but he's basically Danny Crossman.

Does the "Process" include making yourself better, as in game management/challenges?

My fear is that the 5-2 record is a mirage.  I wanted to believe McD turned the corner and the light came on as how to be a winning coach - and I mean against quality teams, not NYG, Cincy, etc, but I question that it has. The loss to Philly, though one loss to an NFC opponent, proves that he didn't fix what was wrong against Miami the previous week.  I want to give McD the rest of this year to prove himself before leaning either way with him; it's only the half way point in the season and we're still in a good spot.  Time to put up or shut up with the "Process."

5-2 IS a mirage.  No one disputes that .  no one with a brain believes right now it is a top 5 , even top 10 team . no way.   These guys are maybe halfway through the rebuild.   They have a foundation of solid, good character new talent, (including coaches), now they are going to work to get better.   They are at the stage where they can beat the bottom half of the league any given Sunday, but not good enough to beat the top third.   Makes perfect sense to me.   It's pretty well established that NFL teams don't have the time to make big scheme and tactics changes from week to week in-season.  You pretty much are what you are once your into the guts of the season.   Bye weeks and offseason is where you make meaningful changes, scheme and roster.   This thing is going to take time and diligence.  I am sure coaches will change in the off season if they didn't get it done this year.   they are definately trending up compared to last year.  That is what you want this season , next season and the season after that.  no flash in the pan,  just steady progress and sticking to their plan.   they are building a program, not just a roster.  they have one of the younger teams in the league when you factor out gore and zo.   rex and those before him spent years screwing it up, may take years to fix it

They have two young players who are crucial to this team taking a step still making big mistakes and progressing slowly.

Edmunds and Allen. They won't go anywhere or beat anyone  of merit if these two don't progress, obviously moreso Allen.(Edmunds would dominate outside however.)

oh stop.  Allen's played what, 16 games or so?   Edmunds is what, 21?   I peg this rebuild at a full 3 years.   This is year 2, Allen's 2nd.  This team was hot garbage 12 months ago.   I'll take 6-2 at mid season.  Wouldn't you?

Yep here we go again........  Expect little & I guess you are happy.....  The Offense will be good in 2022 I guess and then we'll know if JA is the QB of the future????

Throw him in to the fire, give him weapons and see what they have.

well, they threw him into the fire (been starting since he showed up), they are giving him weapons (complete replacement of every offensive skill position since last season), and they are seeing what they have (Josh is still raw as hell but learning fast, as everyone expected) .  offense won't be as good this year as it will be next year, Josh is still a work in progress.  What the h-ll did you expect, 15-1 this season?   you were all ready to fire everyone last year at this time.  Looks like excellent progress since then.  yes I am happy. this team is a helluva lot better prepared to win than it was last year at this time.   Man, lose a game and everyone on this board wants to blow it all up.   You people are all Crazy .     They'll be 6-2 at the halfway mark .. all good.   Hopefully they'll grab another WR before the trade deadline, who knows.   Josh  is still so raw, so not sure it matters.

To me, the Philly game proves that this is not the "breakout" year.   The roster is just not there yet.   and Allen is way too raw, making too many mistakes in his own end.  coaches still figuring out what he can and can't do.

The process continues.  Trust it.   McBeanes know what they are doing and what they are building.   Watch it happen.

Is it good though?  Pretty alarming the last 2 weeks.

Yeah, my fear was this team is not ready as they cannot score enough points yet.   It's a process.  The offense is better than last year for sure.   Beane will continue to improve the roster and McD will continue to coach them up.   At this time last year we wanted to fire them all.  So, see, things are better!

That Allen fumble on the short field was inexcusable there in the second quarter.  Daboll will learn from that.  I;ll bet you never see that play called on our side of the 50 again.

Everyone is learning.   non conference loss.  no big deal.  Trust the Process.

Exposed!!!! Coaches and players!!! Many thought this was a team a move or two away.....Truth is, probably only 60% of the rebuilding is complete.

as I've said many times, this is probably not the year.  they look good.  the process is working.   they aren't ready for the top 10 teams yet... It's ok.

sucks that they do it on the national game tho.  always seems to be the way

    I love the all blue.

the all white with the standing bison is still the best, but all one color is OK.   blue moreso than red, but red is my favorite color, so liked that too.   If it were me , I'd alternate the all whites (standing bison), all blues and all reds.   guess I like color

Who cares,  he could say they suck and it does not matter.  The Bills control what they do,  fans needs to stop waiting to hear compliments from outside sports talkers.  It does not matter and he is right about not beating any good teams.  This week the Bills can change that.

once they start beating good teams, then the national TV media (not print or online) will start taking shots at the weather, piles of snow on the sidelines, the rust belt stuff, the only-been-to-the-playoffs-once-in forever, etc.  The national TV media's playbook stock narrative on WNY was written 42 years ago with the handling of the "77 Blizzard..  It's not going to change anytime soon.   trust the process.  forget the TV media.   they are looking for ratings and those come from the big markets; to the TV media, Bills/WNY are a sideshow of oddities and contradictions that they hope viewers will find "curious".

I have been very reluctant to recognize Goff as one of the top young QB's in this league for the fact that McVay is the brains behind the operation. I think that the blueprint provided by a BB understudy like Patricia has pretty much sealed that team's fate. Couple that with an aging, suspect OL, and Todd Gurley's rapid decline leave you with what you see this year. Now if Goff can become self-sufficient, making the adjustments, reads, and checks at the line himself then things may be different down the road. Many times he looks like a deer in the headlights out there. He just got paid a ton of money by LA though for basically being a puppet. I love what I have seen from Josh this year, despite the mistakes made, and see true growth in our young QB. One would be a fool to say that they haven't seen improvement in Jackson as well, even though I worry about him reverting to his old ways the further we get into the season. Right now he and Josh are looking like the top two QB's from last year's draft with Mayfield taking a step back and Darnold looking like the same player from his Junior year at USC.

In this day and age no one is going to sit a QB for multiple years ala Aaron Rodgers. Front office and coaching leashes are much shorter now than they used to be before. Every regime that comes in wants their guy at the helm and they basically sink or swim from that. See Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals. You have to build around your young QB. You have to put them in situations to succeed. You have to play off of his strengths and hopefully build until the weaknesses are no longer that. Outside of Daboll calling in a few head scratchers at times, I feel that is exactly what we are doing with Josh and you can see the improvement from year one to year two. I see improvement in the same manner with Lamar, though him running as much as he does and coming back to earth since the Miami game make me wonder if it is sustainable. Even Vick, who was built like a RB, started coming up with injuries due to that playing style. But what can you do if you are Baltimore? You work with him to continue to make him better, but you have to let him do what he does out there on the field.

Another thing to consider when looking at today's QB's is the college game itself. It's mainly Spread formations, RPO, a lot of dual threat QB's, and not really much traditional QB play anymore. Where a QB has 5 to 7 seconds at times in college to read a defense, and allow things to open up, you only have 3 in the NFL for the most part on any given play. Where guys in college can wait for their guy to come open so they can throw the ball, now they are forced to read where the man will be open and throw with anticipation. Many of these young QB's have a hard time with that, processing the information from pre-snap to the release of the pass. All of the greats have had the mental aptitude to succeed in the game. Brady, Manning, Brees, Marino, Kelly, Montana, Rodgers, Steve Young, Ben Ro, Favre, Rivers, and the rest are/were very cerebral in their approach processing what they see on the field quickly. With the way college offenses are run these days there aren't many who are developed for those 3 or 4 years in this regard in the college game.

yeah but what if Daboll is calling all the plays into Josh's headset at the line?   what exact progress is Josh making if he's just a puppet on a string like Goff was???

It's supposed to cut off 15 seconds into the 30 second playclock eg 15 seconds before the snap

So what the Rams were doing was coming to the line quickly, which forced the D to come to the line quickly.  Then McVay would make the read and change the play before the (legal) radio cut off.

[Rumor was, and there was enough "smoke" about it that it may be true, that early on in Brady**'s career, the Patriots*** found a way to circumvent the radio shutoff (2nd radio perhaps?) and Belicheck**** was able to help Brady up until right before the snap.  He doesn't need that now, of course, but even for an experienced QB having an "eye in the sky" who can quickly spot and decode defensive patterns would be invaluable.

Especially if you've been videotaping other team's practices for extra help indecoding their defensive play call signals.]

so when the playclock is down to 15 the headsets have to be turned off... thanks.. i'll pay much closer attention inside and outside of that mark ... "Omaha" means a lot more to me now...

  14. Wow, so McVay was changing the play in Goff's headset at the line?   Wow, didn't know Goff was a total robot.   So McVay maybe ruined him by not allowing him to learn from mistakes, not allowing him to checkdown, etc. based on what the defense did?   McVay simply changed the play at the line based on the defense McVay saw and Goff just obeyed?   That kind of control?   Wow...  Maybe that is why young QBs seem to be running around a little lost if the original read isn't there?

did not know the headset is not on all the time.. never knew it cuts off at a certain time in the pre play.  Does anyone know what the headset turn off timing is??  That would be super good to know when watching the play clock wind down.  Interesting.    Thanks OP.    Does Daboll do this with Allen?   I hope not.   If he's just a puppet on a string, how much and by when will he really learn to do on this own?

  15. John Brown is a beast.    My son and his college roommates were big Cards followers during the Carson Palmer greatest show on earth years (brown, boldin, Fitz ) and turned me on to him.  He was injured a bit, but when healthy was the only guy I ever saw who could chase down Palmers long ball.  We will see, but hopefully he will still be fast when Josh's brain catches up to his longball.

I trust Beane will be pulling similar moves to bolster the Bills' roster for the run this year.

A run this year?   Nah, don't think so.   Jets, Phins and Titans all had them beat.  Mariota had his foot a foot over the line or that game is lost.   Jets def holding saves the Bills in that one, and Fitzy is Fitzy at the goal to screw up 21-9.   Trust the process, these guys are not as good as the record.   Now the schedule looks favorable, no doubt, but that would be the only reason they "make a run".    Keep your high draft choices Beane, you are an excellent drafter of talent.  That is the only way a roster in WNY can be built for the long term.   Pats are trying to win a Super Bowl.   We are just working to get back to the tournament this year.

To me these there the things needed to get this O into the top 10

    OL Cohesion

    One more legit pass threat

Not sure this is the year, bc the offense has a ways to go....McBeanes need another offseason to keep building the offensive roster talent... getting there.  Isaiah Mckenzie is not an NFL player and neither was Zay Jones..  Gore, Brown,  Beasley and Kroft are NFL players.  Singletary, Foster,  Duke and the rookie TEs might be, can't tell yet.  Kroft needs to get going.   Lotta very raw young guys runnin around out there in the offensive skill positions (including the QB) which means things will come and go

They are getting there.   Can only do so much in one offseason.  Plus Allen needs to mature, and he is.   I can see the top 10 teams holding them to under 15 points without too much trouble.   Allen just isn't there.    He's still running around a lot thinking about the long ball.. he'll be ok.. just needs some time, so does Singletary
