Tomlin and the officials do not exactly see eye-to-eye. Hasn't he been very vocal over the years, and hasn't he been fined upon a few occasions. Didn't he break the golden rule, and that is officials are not to be questioned.
The media asks McDermott about a bad call and he brakes out in a cold sweat and looks like he is trying to swallow Dawkin's cleats. You just KNOW he wants to say "Those guys couldn't find their A##es with both hands", but just knows it could always get worse for his team.
And BTW Pittsburgh comes in at #3 for most penalty yards assessed this year. One behind the Bills at 90 penalties for 820 yards... I could understand the sentiment that "the officials hate us". Tomlin does not help things, as I firmly believe that NFL officiating can really turn against a team that questions how they call a game.

The national sports outlets had the usual Josh fail recaps - no way they actually watch him play. I am getting ahead of myself, but I think you are right. Surround this kid with a bit more talent, protect him a bit better, and this could be something really special.

Nice to hear those things said about a Bills' QB, it has been a long time since this team has started anyone under center that teams were actually worried about matching up against.

Lofton questioned the same thing on the air - said that Clay acted like he had to keep his feet in the end zone rather than come back more to the ball.
These plays and decisions happen in seconds and I will never say it is easy, but the general rule is if it hits you in the hands you should make the catch. I think Clay should go, not because I am mad at the player, but rather because his injuries keep him off the field too much and I would rather have the team develop or bring in a TE that Josh can build up some chemistry with and he is just not performing up to his contract/expectations.

Acting like it didn't happen just makes you look stupid. Like, not just emotionally stupid, but literally mentally stupid.
In today's age of media and cameras everywhere saying, "that wasn't me", or acting like it didn't happen will not fly - that, and the fact that your Bill's uniform has your number and name on it kind of places you at the scene and all that.
He will get some kind of retribution from the league - may as well man-up and say yeah I said it and I don't care if you have a problem with it, or pretend to be repentant hoping for a lighter reaction.

PI call on Milano was accurate, missing the DPI on the non-catch by Zones was not.
Agree on Phillips. It was a selfish, bone-headed move, but glad to know he has that kind of ability to be disruptive - now show it against teams not called the Dolphins.
I was on the fence about the clothesline, but not sure if officials have really been looking at "intent" when protecting other QBs. What I did see was Tanny trip over his own lineman when being tackled by our safety that he outweighs by 20-30lbs and our safety got a roughing the passer. Also, numerous late hits on Josh Allen, and one decent forklift and full-weight-on-top-of Allen slam by a Miami DT with no flags.
You can find a penalty on any given play if you look for them, the reason I question the Miami calls was a lack of balance.
I will concede the undisciplined rookie mistakes, the pre-snap gaffs, or clock mismanagement - I expect those with so many 1st and 2nd year players that are starters.

Hilarious that Lofton, a venerated retired NFL WR, up in the booth announcing the game, had the same comments we Bills fans have been saying this year. He at first jokingly said that KB's arms shrank from the time they were measured by the team, and then went on to say that he was justifiably in hot water with folks in Buffalo for lack of compete.

Well in reality Craig Bohl and his staff pretty much red-shirted Wentz while at NDSU and had him backing up Brock Jensen (retired CFL Ottawa RedBlacks QB) till he was named the starter in 2014 after Bohl and his OC left for Wyoming, but I am picking nits.
Wyoming lost a lot of key starters Josh's 2nd year at Wyoming (not sure, but read somewhere that they had a center, TE, and WR go to the NFL - that is pretty good for an improving Wyoming program, but bad for a QB in his last year). Those that have watched the tapes of Josh talk about numerous drops from his receivers and that he carried the team on his back...where does that fit into the blended accuracy completion % conversation?
I am on the fence as to whether you are trolling folks...

Just my own conspiracy theory, but ever since Ralph was so instrumental in swaying the owner votes bringing back the instant replay system that the NFL officiating union did not want, we have always ranked near the top in penalties assessed and yards surrendered, phantom drive-killing calls...
*Two calls made the difference in the Buffalo Bills' 25-21 loss to the New England Patriots three days later. Patriots receiver Shawn Jefferson was called inbounds on a fourth-and-9 pass play, although replays showed he was out. Then Buffalo was called for interference on a desperation pass into the end zone as players on both teams jostled for the ball. That call set up the Patriots' winning touchdown. The Bills' owner, Ralph Wilson, lashed out at the officiating afterward and was fined $50,000 by Tagliabue.
So Ralph changed his instant reply vote in 1999, and swayed a few other holdout owners to change theirs too to bring it back, like KC's Lamar Hunt (BTW KC is the one team that leads our Bills this year in penalty yards assessed).
Lamar Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, had consistently opposed instant replay, but said that ''I voted for it this time because I see an opportunity to use improved technology. I have some misgivings. I still think there are imperfections in the system, but let's see what happens.''
Hence the oft times terrible, incompetent, and biased officiating with its underground ties to Vegas betting was now there for the world to see, and the Bills would be forever hated by NFL officials. ?
Like I said, it is my conspiracy theory.

When I heard from McD, Zay and Josh about what actually happened on that play, it wasn't an inaccurate pass it was a perfect pass. Zay was expected to sit on the route, and that is where Josh threw it. Josh was being diplomatic in his interview, saying that he should have known Zay was going to continue instead of sitting because there was so much open endzone but it is clear that it was not at all an inaccurate pass, it went exactly where he wanted it.
To me, that knowledge, has a big affect on the overall game Josh had in my perception. I thought he had a very good game overall but missed several throws. The fact that the biggest misfire was not a misfire, and would have been his third TD to Jones makes a substantial difference in my grading of the game.
A lot of times we as fans don't know this kind of stuff, and our evaluations and biases suffer because of it.
Don't think it would matter to me that he misses on a few, just looking for a rookie with a lot of raw talent to show improvement each week. He started slow and did not get into any kind of a rhythm till he had a few scrambles under his belt IMO.
He got this team the lead with 5 and change left on the clock and our defense went soft, then got a huge DPI call on Milano, then a really stupid selfish penalty on Phillips (the way the refs were calling the game he should have known better), which put Miami in position for the go ahead score.
Even after that Josh used his feet and some great throws, a soft touch on a screen to Shady, and worked hard to march his team down the field despite losing ground with holding calls and a false start on Dawkins to get one last shot at the end zone. He puts in an insane effort to keep the 4th down play alive and hits Clay in the hands and it was dropped on the turf.
Would I judge the kid on a few missed throws, or because there was a miscommunication, I just don't think that is how you judge a rookie QB's progress. I am just looking to see if he made a throw that he missed the week before, does he get rid of it rather than take a 15 yard sack like he did earlier in the year, is he keeping his eyes down field when he breaks out of the pocket and hit some of those throws, is he reading defenses a bit better and throwing it a bit sooner.

He's a Tim Tebow with a bit more upside.

Don't sweat the trolling...and all the whining. He stiff arms one defender, spins away from another, jukes a third before getting a 40 yard pass off across his body and you get the guys asking "what's with the wobbly ball?". Seriously?
Even Lofton was talking about how Josh Allen was taking less damage scrambling (for over 100 yards) than when he stayed in the pocket and was getting hit late over and over. After one late hit where the defender (a DT over 300lbs) fork lifted Josh and landed with his full weight driving him to the turf, Josh looked up at the ref like what gives? The camera caught the Miami player laughing as he walked away - no call of course.

That's Hochuli's kid... had no idea. Thought dad had served some time for being terrible and was allowed back in just to officiate Bills games. I see the family legacy of fail continues to live on. He even said "glame" at one point when asking the game clock to be reset. I'll tell you what's "glame" you are you POS.
I need to calm down and have a few drinks. I know we say players have to be smarter, but I don't know if I could take what Hughes takes game after game not getting any calls as they call Teller for the same types of bad leverage holds. I don't mind the calls as long as they are consistent. Milano got a DPI when he just impeded a route - all guys in coverage do this same thing and are coached to get their heads turned around as they slow down to seem like they are looking for the ball. Milano could have executed that better, but it was not even close to the mugging that Zay got when the Miami defender who was already pinning one of his arms was draped all over his back before the ball even got there.
The NFL makes billions of dollars, yet they have such bush-league officiating rife with nepotism, favoritism, probably guys with friends making money on betting which results in so many bad calls - not just the Bills, but they have been stinking up the Monday night games too.
The big picture is that the Bills are young, they have talent, they can do addition by subtraction by releasing KB and Clay, they have plenty of draft picks and cap space. And if they don't finish with a great record, they will be drafting a bit higher.

Hughes has been a target for officials for a long time. Personally, I think he cleaned up his game a lot, gets held almost every play, and every hold they called on Teller you can see on Hughes just about every play.
I feel your pain Jerry - I do not regret this team signing Hughes one bit. I hate to say anything about the officiating, and there are things the Bills could clean up, but I do not understand how unbalanced it has been for the Bills for years.
Terry P. needs to bring some big boots to the owner's meeting and the NFL needs to shake up the officiating old guard. How is freaking der-t-der son of Ed Hochuli who could not get a damn coin toss right officiating in this league - they must have a Union where they never fire anyone for being suck, and hire their kids.

Your QB is running around for his life trying to extend the play, no one was near Clay and he acted like his feet were cemented in the red zone.. move up to the ball for Christ's sake and fall down the other way. The announcers said the same thing when looking at the review... it was a catchable ball. Your a pro - you make that catch.

All those calls against Teller I see other teams do to Jerry Hughes just about every freaking play... so sick of the slanted subjective officiating.

Awkward clothesline, but a clothesline none the less. That gets called on just about any other QB... they are not giving our rookie QB any protection. Does not make sense in a league where they claim that they are trying to protect the QBs

Not that I would expect Beane to tip his hand, but I would have liked to have heard something about better protecting their QB investment. TE's who can catch and block, and O-linemen who do not get steamrolled into your backfield on just about every play.
