I understand that’s it’s cute to flame on the OP for the idea but the Bills front office has already traded away far more valuable assets than Charles Clay. I’ve got no idea why everyone is drawing a line in the sand at one of the traditionally least used ‘weapons’ in the Bills offensive arsenal.
They are on the hook for his Cap costs this year so trading him would make zero sense..
It doesn’t free up any salary cap space that they could use to acquire another player...

You have to take that up with the OP. Marino's critique is fair and IMO should be considered only with what you have seen for yourself.
I have but he seems to have disappeared...

Marino's critique was not over the top, yet look at some of the posts that sought to discredit him and his analysis that points to exactly what I'm referring to.
The OP is using Marino’s opinion of Allen to help him justify his criticism of the Bills draft choice, yet also wants to pretend that other similar analysts didn’t have a more favourable rating of Allen..
Marino is entitled to his opinion but I don’t think his analysis of this draft class should be put on a pedestal... as I posted earlier he did have Darnold at number 48 on his board..

Can’t believe they traded a 3rd for a 5th to move up for this dude..
Should have kept 65 and picked Harry..

Possibly...
But more than likely no.

Here is Joe Marino's final Big Board...
Had Darnold at 48 ..
At least he liked Tremaine at 3

Baker Mayfield is going to make every scout/GM/analyst look like a complete dumbass this season and I can't wait
rooting for the kid.
Why?
Because he was picked Number 1?

Thanks for posting....
Optimism is growing...

How is Clay’s knee?
Will he be able to practice this year?

No Mayfield or Rosen on the board - really. Both must have been too accurate as passers, no challenge there.
Yeah I’m not buying this one...
I can’t believe If they missed out on Allen than they aren’t trying to get Rosen and plan B is reaching 2 rounds to take Rudolph at 22..
-
Its apparent with all these guys they drafted that they have a certain "type".
You have to feel optimistic with where they might be another 2-3 years down the road...

We look forward to your condemnation if Allen doesn’t pan out.
My level of condemnation will be mild compared to most here....

Whether he was right remains to be seen. If he was wrong, will it be a career buster? I don’t think so. No GM is ever 100% right and he didn’t give up enough that will cripple the franchise.
We will have to wait and see what happens but I think the majority would say that Rosen would have been the safer option and Allen the higher ceiling lower floor type.
In my observations, GM’s tend to get blamed when they take the riskier option and it doesn’t turn out.
Of course if he ultimately gets it right he will be a genius..
-
Let s be honest- the success or otherwise of this draft and all the other moves Beane made last year will be determined by how Allen plays...
It ain’t going to be pretty if Allen busts and Rosen turns into a franchise QB..
I like Beane but he would have outsmarted himself if that happens..

I can see 2018 being Big Bens last year actually...
He isn’t going to age as well as Brady..

I think he was just concerned that someone would jump ahead of them to 7 and take Allen
Yeah I appreciate that and agree..
i just recall that on the day of the draft there were reports that the Cards were trying to get up to 7 for Allen so the Bills supposedly had to outbid them..
-
Great read...
The article doesn’t mention the Cardinals trying to trade up to 7 so I wonder if this really happened...
I don’t think the 2 seconds is as an overpay though, and I love it how he is still cheeky enough to get back TB’s 7th round pick...
-
Seems like a very smart guy...
I think he is a great fit for McDermott with his maturity, team first attitude and work ethic...
The Bills had this guy much higher than bottom of the 3rd in my view, and he was someone I was keeping tabs on during the last month or so pre draft....
I've got an inkling that they might have used one of their second rounders or 65 on him if they kept them...
They must have been sweating on each selection after it got past 80... I know I was..
-
A lot of these experts are crying about the two second rounders that they used to trade up to 7....
Plenty of pre draft mocks I saw had them trading up to 4 or 5 to pick Allen giving up both first rounders and more...
It appears that these guys are fixated on them giving up too much to get to 7, but would have been happy to give up more to get to 4 or 5 for the SAME player...

OK- but the $4.5 Mil they “save” this year is just being pushed to next year right?
