  1. So there "wasn't much of a trade market" for Foles, or perhaps there wasn't a team prepared to pay the supposed asking price which was a 1st and another pick ...

I also remember a lot of good judges here saying that they wouldn't be able to get a 7th for Tyrod and that would be after the Bills had to eat his roster bonus...

I think the Bills will have him compete as a slot corner (nickel back).  Granted, teams typically play that alignment about 70% of the time anymore, but technically he wouldn't be considered as a starter.   I think the only day one starter Buffalo gets out ofo this draft is Tremaine Edmunds.  Josh Allen may get on the field before the end of the year, but if he does it probably means McCarron is a failure moreso than Allen is too good to keep on the bench (and I'm a fan of Josh Allen long term).  Wyatt Teller could conceivably start, but I think the Bills would just as soon he sit for a while.  The bottom line is the Bills probably get one starter for 2018 along with a nickel back from this draft, and maybe 4 starters plus a nickel back and just maybe a slot receiver (Austin Proehl) from this draft for 2019.  Ray Ray McCloud's future with the team is likely to be that of a return specialist, depth receiver and just maybe an occasional gadget play contributor.

I would be over the moon with that result for next year...

Harrison and Teller look like steals compared to where they were drafted...

I must admit that Neal and Johnson were not on my radar pre draft, but I am optimistic about what I have read about them since...

The only criticism I have of the draft is that they had the chance to pick Tyrell Crosby in the 4th round who seemed to be good value there and would have filled a bigger need in my view...

That's an interesting battle. Tyrod alsways looks great in camp and practice...and he's a seasoned pro. Unless Baker comes out and lights it up right from the start, I can see Tyrod starting the season in Cleveland. But once Cleveland realizes Tyrod can't lead a team back from a deficit, Mayfield will get his shot.

But McCarron and Peterman are not in Tyrod's league; he is a much better QB than either of them. So I don't think the situations are the same.

Cheers... I'm prepared to keep an open mind about McCarron being worse than Tyrod at this stage...

I think its a big ask for Allen to beat out AJ in camp, but hopefully if he does it means he has practiced well and not that AJ is terrible...

Allen is not raw. He's ready to play. Yeah, he's going to have some rocky moments and he needs to work on some things...but there is no way Allen will not start the majority of the games this season. Unless he's a bust and he doesn't win the job.

Think of it this way: how would you feel about Josh Allen, our No. 1 pick who we traded up for, if he can't beat out AJ Freakin' McCarron and Nate "5 picks in a half" Peterman for the starting job in camp?

Do you feel the same way about Baker and Tyrod out of interest?

Not weird to me. Look how many of them weren’t brought in via the draft, then look at the pathetic contracts. Bodine got something like 5 mill for 2 years. The guy they did pay (Wood) and the one they lowballed (Incog) are now retired.

If you’re not drafting quality olinemen you are over paying for them in FA. Beane hasn’t had time to draft them and it looks like he refuses to overpay interior guys.

I agree that they are not spending much on the OL and there is that old adage that you get what you pay for...

$5Mil for 2 years is back up Center money so that's why I'm not convinced they have Bodine pencilled in to start.......

On another matter about crazy money... I cant get over Seantrel Henderson getting $4M for 1 year...How many games has that dude played the last couple of years?

Bodine pretty much has to be starter at this point.  With Wood and Incognito starting makes sense to move Groy to Guard and start Bodine as a Center unfortunately. We shall see how it goes... Alabama has always had good linemen even when their talents didn't translate to the NFL. At this point we gotta hope that Dabolls scheme is just that good. We all thought our linemen sucked the year we hired Roman but we turned into one of the best. It's not the individuals... It's how well they play together that makes a great oline

Yeah looks like Bodine is starting unless Beane signs someone which I think is a big possibility...

Another possibility is Teller at OG but that is probably expecting too much first year...

I don’t think Newhouse will start at all and could be an early cut...

I expect Groy and Miller will have good seasons in Dabolls system.  Newhouse and Bodine both aren't good but atleast they have starting experience and are not no body's

Their previous teams fans had parties when Newhouse and Bodine moved on....

Im hoping neither is a starter..

The Bills had the chance to take Crosby in the 4th round but passed.... I’m hoping that means that they think McDermott might be ready at RT...

He signed for less by his own choice and the QB market is different now.   Fast forwarding to this year, the Browns could have signed AJM and kept their 3rd round pick. They instead traded for Tyrod and his contract.   Speaks volumes.

Im engaging in a topic thread title - "who was better when they arrived in Buffalo"

There's no way to know. AJM was a UFA with starting jobs available this offseason and no other team wanted him even with guys like Bradford getting significantly overpaid to the tune of $20M.

Maybe so... but a lot of media pundits are still saying that AJ was acquired on the cheap even at $10M for two years...
