I don’t think he was *that* bad. Would like to see him with a real QB.

I think they should keep him around for 2018....

Just making the point that his numbers were not great in 2017, and he has had the off season brain explosion thing happen, so I don't see any other team giving up a pick for him..

I think that he has the most value to the Bills in 2018... he was supposedly injured last year, they traded a 2nd and 3rd for him so they must have seen something,  and he can continue to work with his old college coach....

If he doesn't improve this year however than I think he is in jeopardy and questions need to be asked around his selection...

No doubt Daboll is loading up on slot WRs to add formation flexibility similar to what NE does.

Frankly I don't see where a guy like Zay fits into that regime and it wouldn't shock me if he's dealt for a 5th or 6th in August.  If he does manage to stick around for the final 53 and gets out-produced this season by Mr. Almost Irrelevant, he'll be cut outright after 2018 concludes.

Who is going to give up any pick for him?

  3. Just for some fun here is what I think they could have done with the extra picks...( after assuming they get Allen at 4 and Edmunds at 12)..

Alexander was already gone when they were on the clock at 22. Lets assume they don't trade up for him... Obviously they now need a CB to replace Tre, but I'm not sure of the value here at 22... there are a lot of CB's that will be available in the 2nd round, and I don't think that Mike Hughes who went at 30 is that much better than the others... Quality Guards however are in short supply and there are a couple available here.. lets say they take Wynn at 22 ( although I did like Hernandez as well who went at 34)...

At 53 Beane is starting to sweat now about getting a CB to replace Tre.. He has his pick of the 2nd round litter here.... I'll say Duke Dawson who they had in for a pre draft visit gets the nod...

56 is WR time ... I'll go with DJ Chark who has the zip that they are lacking...

Now that they have addressed two major needs in the 2nd, I think at 65 they pick Phillips.... We now know in hindsight that this would have turned out to be a reach, however McDermott seems to be in love and he has "The Process" stamped all over him... Still cant believe they got him at the bottom of the 3rd...

This would have then freed up 96 to make another selection....This is tough for me to decide on as a lot of players I liked were still there in the 4th round and they overlooked them with their pick then... I'll say they go Dorian O'Daniel at LB who I'm pretty sure they had in for a pre visit and who the Chiefs picked at 100....

So under this scenario the question then becomes - Tre versus Wynn, Dawson, Chark and O'Daniel

It’s just you. The cap is totally irrelevant at this point. The Bills will have TONS of cap space in 2019 regardless of the rollover. It’s a matter of, “do you think Dez can help you?” If the answer is “yes” then you should sign him. If you don’t think that he makes you better don’t add him. It comes back to “what is the goal for 2018?”

To my observations, the first question they ask is - “ is this guy a McBeane type guy?”. If the answer is “no” then I don’t think it matters how much skill he has, I don’t think they will sign him.

Dez is not a McBeane type guy

I mean was it really his fault? Kid unfortunately got hurt in camp then they changed coach and scheme.

The same exact thing could happen to Edmunds but there's a lot of homer cocoa going around these days.

I think the move up for Ragland  of 8 spots in the 2nd  (not taking his injury or scheme fit  into account...I'm just looking at the price paid to move from 49 to 41) was an overpay, and that seemed to happen a few times on Doug's watch..

Maybe they could have waited at 49 and he might have dropped.. Maybe.. we will never know and he obviously had Rex in his ear, but perhaps he should have told Rex to buzz off...

Beane swapped a 3rd for a 5th to move up six spots in the first ( 22 to 16) for a prospect that a lot of so called experts have rated in the 5 to 10 range...

But.. lets see how Edmunds works out.. I don't want to be getting his bust made up for Canton yet when he hasn't even hit Rookie camp..

Also on the other side of the fence.. last year McDermott moved up for Dawkins and that seemed to work out OK... I appreciate its not an exact science..

Maybe the moral should be that if you are moving up for someone they better be a success!

You guys think any of those teams were the best team in football on any of those years?

I think they were the best team the first year they went... probably by some margin...

Its a similar story for your Packers when they lost to Denver in the late 90's... they were the best team that year but at least they had won it the previous year if memory serves me correctly...

I love the variation in all the experts opinions. MSN has us with the worst QB situation in the league. What I don't get is how the same guys get to be wildly wrong year in year out.

And they have the Browns at 15...

QB depth chart: Tyrod Taylor, Drew Stanton, Baker Mayfield, Joel Stave

The Browns have totally flipped their bleak house at quarterback to something more than legitimate. Taylor's play was a big factor in getting the Bills to the playoffs last season. Stanton comes over to remain the immediate No. 2 he was for Palmer. Mayfield has the massive upside of a No. 1 overall pick, and Stave is more interesting than most No. 4s.

Less than half of the league employed 3 QBs last year. The cap space is beyond irrelevant if we are talking about an in season addition. That couldn’t be less of a factor.

It all comes down to where Allen is by week 3 of the preseason. If he is looking like the starter (or at least the #2) where does that leave Peterman? It leaves him as a distant 3rd that isn’t the plan for the future (Allen is). If Allen looks overwhelmed and completely raw Peterman probably makes the team as he buys the team weeks/months to get Allen closer to ready.

If it is going to be McCarron and then Allen by opening day it is more likely than not that Peterman won’t be on the 53. They will try to put him on the PS. If someone signs him to their active roster, so be it. He was a 5th round pick that played poorly. The Saints cut Grayson after a season and he was a 3rd. If that happens and McCarron or Allen gets hurt the Bills can add a FA QB like Matt Moore to get them through. It isn’t all that different than when we added Orton.

The plan is for Allen to be the guy. Peterman’s  place depends on how far along Allen is.

The Saints have one of the best QB’s in the League... slightly different to the Bills situation..

I can see AJ getting traded sometime in the next 12 months, so would make some sense to hang onto NP and keep that option open...

Also right or wrong, they started Peterman in a game so that tells me they saw something in him that might lead them to keep him around another year just to be sure..

If AJM plays really well, teams will be falling all over themselves to trade for him.  He's got a 2yr deal and Buffalo would be in a great position to trade before his contract is up. There's also a possibility they like him so much that they want to keep him.

In all likelihood, though, he will be nothing more than a competent backup.  But who knows right now.

He is on comparative chump change next year so I think he has some trade value even if he only has moderate success this year...

A big if I know at this stage but lets keep an open mind and see how it plays out..

Its good to have potential contingency plans and options..
