1. As you can tell by my number of posts I don't contribute alot to this forum but I do read it everyday. After reading endless discussions and arguements about JP vs. Trent, I'd like to offer you all my views on this subject after which you can either agree or "tear me a new one" LOL.

Trent Edwards- What we know for sure is he received a ringing endorsement from the late Bill Walsh. That's a bold statement! I watched an NFL Films show just today on Bill Walsh and the hand he had in drafting Joe Montana when all the other teams in the league weren't even considering him until at least the sixth round. I'm pretty sure that Walsh is a much better talent evaluator than any of us. The kid did look great for a rookie, we all know he has a quick release and he's obviously very smart and can process info quickly. Remember what Flutie said, "the QB position isn't about size, its about decision-making" I think Edwards' upside is tremendous especially after seeing that he came to OTA's with added muscle. This tells me that he figured out his own shortcomings ie: smaller frame which led to injuries and not having the rep as a deep ball passing threat. I can foresee a very bright future for this kid IF he can progress the same way we've seen him do so far.

JP Losman- What we know for sure is he is probably the most accurate deep ball passer we've seen since the days of Jimbo. That too is a bold statement! I don't feel that JP is nearly as smart a QB as most of the greats, but what hurts him the most is he doesn't appear to be mentally as tough as he needs to be in order to be successful. Every press conference I've ever seen him in he appears like he is always trying to convince you that he knows what he is talking about but that he himself doesn't believe the words. Don't get me wrong, I like this guy and I believe his greatest successes in the NFL would come as a very good backup. After all, what's wrong with being a Frank Reich, We all love that guy for what he did for the organization, don't we? I do have to take issue with some of you who state that JP regresssed in 07, I think it was the offence that regressed under Steve Fairchild in 07 and should Trent go down with an injury this year, I think a few of you might be surprised at how well JPL might look in another system under another co-ordinator, one who actually played the position of quarterback!

    Go Bills!

I like trent too but walh's endorsement doesn't mean much when after he said jake plummer would be thw next joe montana....

  2. Ever hear him interviewed? He's an arrogant S.O.B. Very aloof. Good player, but doesn't display publically the kind of attitude you'd like to see. This is not the first time he hasn't shown up for the workouts. Same shyt, different year.

yep. and his special move or only move is a speed rush which carries him off the camera as he is ridden helplessly past the quarterback over and over agin. I hate to say it but I think people would be harder on this guy if he were not white (i'm white so i'm no nat x about these things).

  3. I think we saw the best of Aaron Schobel. He is now 30 and on his way down. He is still a very good DE but he only has a few (3ish) good years left.

You are correct except for the very good part. He is lazy, bad attitude, overpaid, underperforming. Then he tops it off with an undeserved pro bowl where he was an embarassment (can't tackle Garcia?).

  4. PLAYERS I SAW: While I didn't get a total head count with players on the move between the locker room, weight room, meetings rooms and the field, below are the 46 players I saw with my own eyes Tuesday as the offseason conditioning program got underway.

Melvin Fowler, Lee Evans, Langston Walker, Spencer Johnson, Bryan Scott, Duke Preston, Scott Mayle, Dustin Fox, Ashton Youboty, Terrence McGee, Ryan Neill, Gibran Hamdan, Trent Edwards, Chris Kelsay, John DiGiorgio, John Wendling, Lee Evans, Justin Jenkins, Courtney Anderson, Derek Schouman, Brad Butler, Teyo Johnson, Keith Ellison, Kirk Chambers, Jason Whittle, Kyle Williams, Felton Huggins, Matt Murphy, Jabari Greer, Christian Gaddis, Shawn Nua, Nevin McCaskill, Corey Mace, Patrick Estes, Derrick Dockery, Blake Costanzo, Ko Simpson, Jonathan Evans, Jon Corto, Copeland Bryan, Fred Jackson, Tim Massaquoi, Josh Reed, Donte Whitner, George Wilson, Jason Jefferson.

Wheres Stroud and Roscoe, and Evans is so great he shows up twice What a guy.

    No Schobel? Shocking. (not)

  5. yay, it must be cold in Hades today ... we're using Pffffttt to mke us feel better about our team. That site, which most of us bash mercilessly for their rumor mongering and inane analysis, now becomes the bastion of impartiality. Having PFT think we may be competitive is NOT a reason for me to feel better about my team.

Count me crazy but I'll wait and see how Fewell adjusts to life without Clements and whether McNally really knows how to turn Langston Walker from a turnstile into a solid right tackle and if we can draft a difference maker like Willis and if we can trade no more than a 2nd for Turner. Lots of questions ahead that need answers before I drink the Koolaid.

And what difference did he make? Lousy average per carry or sub par touchdowns or not knowing the downs? McGahee was a schmuck. You are correct that he is a difference maker: there will be improvment in the running game this year with him gone.

  6. You people are ill, really. I bet the stats exists that show that your odds of kicking a 45 field goal into a 20 MPH wind are worse than completing a 4th and 5.

It was an educated gamble and it didn't work.

Get real, this team has major flaws and even if they made it (I bet they wouldn;t have even with the win today and next week, write it down) they'd get killed.

It was a learning experience. That's how progress and growth works.

And for those who think Vince Young is the next Joe Montana.... give the league a while, they'll catch up to him like thet did with Vick.

That's not the point. The point is that if you are in four down territory run the fricking ball on third down especially when you knwo they have to play pass. It was absurd the pass on both downs.

  7. It has never, ever been more clear than today for ALL to see that this team is an offensive line away from being atleast competitive in the league. Forget your JP haters/lovers, forget Willis, forget the run D. It's all about the line and this has been the issue since atleast 1995. This team needs two guards (maybe Reyes is one?) and a RT to be productive before they will be able to compete. While it's encouraging that they can play with teams, the recurring line theme is very, very frustrating.

    ----------------------------------------------------

Yep. Its particularly irritating that the Bills since Polian left the Bills have done very little to help the O-line no matter who the subsequent coaches and gm's have been. Its especially irritating when everyoine knows that it is by far the most import unit, which is why you can stick anyone in KC, NE or Denver's backfield and they become instant stars.

  8. I don't think any coach could win with the collection of "talent" the Bills field every week.  This team has 10 legitimate starters on the team (and only 2 on the O and D lines).  Everybody else is marginal at best.  That's just not going to get it done.

That being said I'm not happy with the defensive philosophy I've seen thus far.

    813010

Wade's teams were not very talented either.

  9. I was being sarcastic. I dont think McGee has looked good at all. He's consistently getting beat when he tries to press receivers, and yeah he's fast but mcgee jamming a wr especially with inexperienced safeties will be a recipe for disaster the rest of the year.

In all honesty I dont find much fault with our secondary.  This defense is based off pressure from the dline. Which is non existent, but I'm not worried we play some crappy teams where Im sure Schobel will rack up a good # of coverage sacks

    799346

Clements has sucked all year, and today was the worse I have seen him play. He Stays 9 yards off the line and consistently was burned deep, wiffed on at least 5 tackles. Totally overrated and over paid.

  10. proof read or go back and edit.

I think Royal played ok and I think he is better then everyone else but we'll see in the coming weeks.

    767832

why do i have to proof read? am i your secretary? get a life. this is a bills bb.not a typing class you babies. also re the banned comment, its ok to call some a drunk and not get banned? grow up you pansies

  11. Jesus, he got crushed.

I've got $5 that says Geathers gets fined for that.  That was vicious, and not entirely clean, either...

    767381

Didn't they penalize him? I thought you could not do blows to the head, or lead with the head and hit a qb on the slide? Seems like all three happened. Cincy is a pretty scummy and (literally) criminal outfit lately.

  12. Say what you want about the "Decision" but those two blocks in the back killed us!

First of all, Clements' push cost us a possible touchdown.  But even more stupid was Royals' on the Price catch.  We had the first down and driving for a go ahead score, and that killed us.

As for "the Decision" I really wish we would stop using Willis on 3rd or 4th and short.  I have seen him get stopped way too many times.

Should have brought in Thomas.  He is a back who knows how to get a yard when you need it.  Either that or take a cue from the Belichick play book and quick snap a QB sneak.

    767564

Yep Royal is teh goat . Big Time. Start Evertt.

  13. I completely disagree.  Not converting that 4th down led to a huge momentum swing which could have been stifled if 3 had been put up on the board.

    Horrible call.

    767616

In retrospect you are correct however teh game isn't played that way. You could go either way on this and rember the defense was pretty shutting them down at that point.
