Yea agree with this.
Assuming Tua is healthy, I’d much rather face the Patriots than the Dolphins next week assuming the Chiefs win.
Yep.
My hope is the Jets beat Miami (Not liking those chances with Flacco starting). We beat NE. And then get NE a week later at Orchard Park.
My guess is WC weekend will actually end up shaking out like this:
(2) Buf vs (7) Mia
(3) Cin vs (6) Bal (I pick Cin easily)
(4) Jags vs (5) LAC
*So no matter what, KC ends up getting the Jags or LAC*. I suppose LAC would be tougher for them. But still...that game is at Arrowhead.
Meanwhile, we need to beat Miami (I don't think the Flacco led Jets get it done) in order to get a home date with Burrow & the Bengals.
*= Assuming we beat Miami. Otherwise, Miami is off to KC.

I don't think Pittsburgh will get in.
I'd prefer them. But I think they are in tough against Cle & I don't believe the Jets will beat Miami with Flacco.

I don't agree with the Coin flip with Cincy/Balt. Not because it screws Cincy, but it screws Baltimore. They would have beaten Cincy twice. So they'd have to beat Cincy AND win the Coin flip? Sounds kind of garbage.
They would've beaten Cincinnati twice. Yes. So I can see Ravens fans irritated at the thought of sweeping Cincinnati but still playing WC weekend in Cincinnati.
However.....Cincinnati never got an opportunity to beat us Mon and end up with 4 losses to Baltimore's 6 losses. Had that occurred, Baltimore would've had no chance at hosting a game.
So in a way, the NFL is rewarding Cincinnati for something out of their control.
-
Well...there it is.
I presume the top three AFC teams win this weekend.
My fear is potentially getting Miami instead of NE on WC Weekend. I'd rather get NE. Assuming we take care of NE Sunday.
KC will likely get a tomato can opponent on divisional weekend. Probably Jax or Chargers. Safe bet that they are back in the title game.
Our biggest benefit is getting KC in a neutral field over Arrowhead. But we still need to beat Miami & Cincinnati (Likely) to get to KC. Not easy at all.

There has yet to be an official word from NFL.
Rumor has it that the Bengals aren't happy with these scenarios and are trying to find another alternative

I believe so. Based on the resolution the neutral site seemed to only come into play if both KC/Buff win or both lose.
So if Cincinnati wins and us and KC lose, Cincinnati can't get the top two seeds. Is this correct?

Well, if the Chiefs somehow lose on Saturday and the Bills win on Sunday, the #1 seed goes to Buffalo, and if I'm reading the resolution correctly, the Bills get the bye and home-field (i.e. no neutral site factoring in). If the Chiefs win and the Bills win, the Bills get the 2, get 2 playoff games at home (assuming they can win both) and then avoid a trip to KC (again, assuming KC also gets that far). I think that is about the best we can hope for as of Monday night with all that has happened.
Agree completely with what you said.
To me this is fair for all.
But I know Bengals fans won't be happy if they visit us in round 2. They will contend that they could have beaten us Monday night. Which most likely would've put said PO game in Cincinnati. Not Buffalo.
In the end, the Bengals get the least benefit of all this. But they had 4 losses at the time of the incident. Us and KC had 3. Had all three teams had 3 losses at the time, this would be an even bigger mess.
It's possible the NFL comes up with another crazy idea too.
-
This proposed scenario does seem fair to me.
Assuming we are 13-3 and KC are 14-3, there are different views.
Yes, we beat KC. So it may seem unfair that they don't play WC Weekend. And we do. Both with the same number of losses.
But...we didn't finish the Cincinnati game. A game we very well could have lost. Which would've left us at 4 losses and KC at 3 losses. Meaning an AFC title game would be in Arrowhead. Instead, said game would be at a neutral field. Which KC fans would hate. Buffalo fans would like.
Both us and KC get some good and bad out of this proposition.

If we win and KC loses this week, do we get the 1 seed. KC the 2. Meaning, we get a bye and host KC in a potential AFC title game?
KC would have 4 loses. We have 3. So even if we lost the Bengals game, our record would be better than KC due to head to head.

This team may not win the SB this year. But no matter what, they are champions in my mind and heart.
They've overcome so much adversity.
-
Let's say we win tomorrow. KC plays on Saturday in Vegas. Let's pretend something crazy happens and Vegas wins.
We go into Sunday knowing the 1 seed is ours. There is a possibility we rest starters. Or, we play starters and knock NE out.
Thing is, I would much rather see NE down the road instead of Miami.
There are pros/cons to resting starters.

Miami is out if the Jets beat them.
If Miami beats NY, we could potentially be hosting the Fins on WC weekend.
I am assuming we beat NE next week. No way do I see us losing to them with so much to play for.
Pittsburgh is done after Baltimore beats them tonight.

I would rather see them make the playoffs than NE only in that they might have a snowball’s chance in hell of beating KC / Cincy if Tua gets back and Hill/waddle come through for them. I’d rather deal w them any day vs either of those teams.
I never thought of it this way.
It is possible Miami with Tua could take out Cin/KC for us. I wouldn't put money on it. But it is possible.

Good point.

If Jets lose to Seattle, but beat Jets. Would that put NE in the postseason. Regardless of what they do against us?

Remember when the Fins beat us to win the AFCE in September, Tua was an "elite" qb and frontrunner for the MVP, and Chubb was the final piece to win the SB this year? Yea...good memories...😂🤣😅😆😅🤣😄
I remember after they beat us thinking Miami was a legit SB contender.
Many times, the team you see in September is quite different from the one you see in Dec/Jan.
Bengals looked miserable for the first 6 weeks. Miami looked great. The Jets were a threat for the east title at one point too.
How things change.

Look at the teams they were beating to get to 8-3. I remember telling myself that SF will either expose them to the rest of the league. Or, they are in fact a legit SB threat.
SF absolutely exposed them and it snowballed from there.

Excluding KC & Cincinnati?
Dolphins and Jets are low key trouble teams for us. Familiarity in division.
Dolphins have receivers that could give us fits. Now, do they have the QB to fully take advantage of said receivers?
Jets are a legit stud QB away from being a serious threat imo. That defense is no joke. Allen has struggled against them.
I don't believe the Patriots, Titans/Jags, or Chargers are a serious threat to us. Ditto Baltimore.
To win the SB, we will need to get by at least one of KC/Cincinnati in the AFC title game. Jmo. Question is where will the game be played.

Though I agree - they need to take care of business for a change
They win the East - home playoff game first round no matter what
this team is going to beat cincinatti if they lose this time AND if they win. Cincinatti is the darling returning afc champion so of course “oh they been there before”
KC ain’t it - over and over they have struggled with their cake schedule and got beat by the two competitors this season. Buffalo handily and cinci comeback
so what - we lose
get three seed
win week one of the playoffs
play either KC or cinci again
who cares just win baby. Get to the playoffs healthy and hungry
If we win the SB, that's all that matters.
There isn't one dominant team in the league.

Both games at home for Cincy. Who knows if Lamar plays this season...
True.
Tomorrow is a gigantic game.
Our SB dreams are easier with everyone coming through Buffalo.

The Bills cannot lose tomorrow, no more the days of hoping other teams do this and that.
I agree.
I think the season kind of does come down to tomorrow night.
Because Bengals would be favored against Baltimore. I'm not confident in Ravens winning tonight. Let alone next week.
Us getting the 3 seed is a nightmare scenario.

So, there likely goes the 1 and 2 seeds.
You think Cincinnati sweeps us and Baltimore?

We can still get at least the 2 seed if we lose tomorrow. Beat NE & have Baltimore beat Cincinnati.
Not that crazy of a scenario.

We need to take care of business ourselves.
If we don't get the one seed it's on us.
Just win tomorrow please. That's it. Win one game tomorrow. Doesn't matter how.

This may be the best team we have faced all season. Chase is arguably the best receiver in the game. Higgins would be a #1 on most teams. Mixon is arguably a top 5 back. Obviously Burrow is right up there with Allen as an elite QB.
Yes, Miami has Hill & Waddle. Unfortunately they have Tua throwing him the ball. Quite different when Burrow is throwing to elite receivers.
Saying a guy coming off major surgery will struggle covering elite receivers isn't some earth shattering news. Most healthy, and elite, CB's would struggle against this group.
We can't afford to go down by ten points early and rely on Allen to play superman again. To win, this needs to be a team win. D, ST's, coaching, and offense.

This is unlikely to torpedo the Bengals season. However, it may benefit us next week as they get adjusted to life without him.
