You guys might be surprised if the center is already here and it's not McGovern. Beane wouldn't have moved off both Bates and Morse if he didn't think so. I'd look for if a project C slides into the 4th or 5th with big athletic upside, like Tortellini or whatever.

If he's there in the 5th, I think Beaux Limmer is the guy. Very similar athletically to Creed Humphrey, except he put up 39 on the press to Creed's 29 reps.

He played mostly Guard, but filled in at Center this season. Need a guy that can anchor against the bull rush of elite DT's.

Samuel as of right now is a better player than Shakir. This post screams "I only watch the Bills." If Shakir hit the market right now he wouldn't be getting $8M AAV with $15M guaranteed. He isn't the caliber of player that stops you from trying to improve the position when a good opportunity presents itself. I appreciate Shakir's toughness and natural instincts after the catch but he was not an answer for our man coverage woes last year. Samuel is genuinely very good against man. And unlike Shakir he can actually play outside. I suspect for example all of the perimeter screens that went to Diggs last year with minimal success will now go to Samuel. So he raises our floor in a number of ways.

Some people are getting way too caught up in worrying about his best spot in the formation. The #1 and only priority this offseason was adding legit starting caliber talent to the WR room. It's laughable that now the complaint is "the Bills are going to have TOO MANY receivers." There will be injuries, rotation, varying game plans focusing on different skillsets to beat different matchups. This is a regime that has regularly spent a lot of money on players 2-3 deep at every single spot on the DL. But for some fans doing the same at WR is an unspeakable sin. I can guarantee you right now the effect of Curtis Samuel on the roster will be much more than the combined effect of Jordan Phillips and Tim Settle on the roster. Beane's only mistake is that he waited this long to make the philosophical change.

If Beane next does the easy and obvious move and selects the best WR remaining with his 1st pick we will finally have the long awaited influx of talent that this group has desperately needed. If that leads to a player like Shakir getting less attention, all that means is he will also face more favorable matchups which can only a good thing.

Curtis Samuel is a massive upgrade from Harty and McKenzie.

And Hollins is a decent upgrade from Sherfield and Kumerow.

Now we need Gabe Davis's replacement, and hopefully a 6th receiver as well. Because this team should be carrying 6 wide outs with Josh Allen at QB.

Question: you've played with a mobile QB before in Can Newton. What's it going to be like playing with Josh Allen and his ability to extend plays?

Answer: my job is to get open as fast as possible so maybe he doesn't have to scramble as much.

    Why are people so against…

… moves that clearly give JA17 more dangerous weapons

… having RBs/WRs who can be deployed all over the field

… being able to disguise which pass catchers are doing what (remember that pre-snap motion is a thing)

… stats showing Samuel is not strictly a slot WR but is a model of production consistency

… the idea that a “boundary WR” can be less than 6’3” 215 and still win because separation is actually the most important attribute

    … ?

Add to that the idea that many formations in today's NFL allow  multiple receivers to lineup in "the" slot on either side of the field. So there's not just "one slot" or one slot receiver.

I just dont think he was really what this team needed.  They need to draft a WR high that can play on outside still.  So what is this 8 million a year really solving?

Curtis Samuel is one of the best receivers at beating man coverage in the league.

Guess what the Bills struggled with against good defenses? Beating man coverage.

If you look at Mahomes stats, he gets around 1500 yards of production and 10 TD's per year from the bottom of his roster -- from receiver 7-15 (this is including all pass catchers).

Josh needs MORE viable targets to throw the ball to. And more guys that can beat man coverage quickly.

I should have been more clear - I was talking about contested catch rate. Because contested catches is what Gabe really struggled with. If anyone touched him in any way, he would drop it.

    Samuel is similar.

He has a 45% career contested catch rate. Gabe is 42%. For comparison sake, Diggs is 13 percentage points higher.

Yeah but what percentage of Samuels targets are contested? Cause he's average catch percentage is actually slightly higher than Diggs'.

He's not a jump ball player. He's a separator that specializes in beating man coverage and getting YAC... Also, he's not replacing Davis, imo. He's replacing Harty.

Davis' replacement will come in Rd 1 or 2.

His catch percentage is only a few points higher than Gabe, unfortunately.

    Yeah, no.

Davis posted 56%, 52% and 56% his last three seasons. Curtis Samuel caught  79%, 69% and 68% over his last three full seasons. That's not a "few points".

    That's the plan.

    1. Diggs

    2. Kincaid

    3. Rookie X

    4. Curtis Samuel

    5. Shakir

    6. Cook

    7. Knox

    8. Hollins

    9. Hammler? 2nd rookie?

Those options to throw too look a lot more impactful than the four you mentioned.

So Samuel is more of a slot receiver in the Cole Beasley role?

His game is more like Deebo Samuels, actually. He kind of turns into a running back when he catches the ball.

Have you seen what top WR are getting the last couple of years?  Heck, Samuel is getting what Zay Jones and JuJu are signed for.

It's a middle cost WR contract to me.

It's a solid #3 contract. High end #2's are making twice as much.

Edit - totally forgot about hollins 😬

And Kincaid, who is realistically going to be the #2 target.

i was never that impressed with him. mid to bottom tier number two. but he does seem to be more consistent & reliable than davis

But he's not going to be the #2. He'll have #3 or #4 level production.

Ask McD and Brady.  They rarely used Johnson--even as a Breather for Cook (going with Murray instead).  Or ask the Jets--they dumped him the season before (at a whopping 5.3 YPC!!).  Or Detroit....

Johnson's yards per carry are from samples sizes so small that they are mostly meaningless.  The fact that he averaged 22 inches more per carry than Murray doesn't move the needle.  Clearly it didn't warrant more touches, and it hasn't throughout his career.

This guy has been on a few bad RB rosters---and he still couldn't separate himself from the pack in the RB room.

I get it--he's a cheap guy to send in for 3 plays a game to give Cook a rest.  That's all he's ever been.

Except for the one season where he had 100 touches. He produced over 600 yards from scrimmage and 4 TD's...

He's good enough to catch the ball out of the backfield on important plays in important games.

There is a lot of WR talent in this draft..........but if you want(and I quote you) "the best player" you better trade up because you are looking at WR 6-8 at pick #28.

I already addressed the speed issue.  The Bills sorely lack elite speed and a deep threat but even if you have that in house those are traits you can stack.   That's not what McConkey is.   He isn't going to be a 20 yards per reception threat like DeSean Jackson was entering the NFL.   If the draft dropped off at WR after McConkey and if upcoming drafts looked bereft of WR talent then maybe you don't worry about the redundancy of short-intermediate receivers but that's not the case.

I want traits that can elevate the offense to another level.   Maybe McConkey turns out to be that guy to replace Diggs but it's not like the cupboard is bare at 6' short-intermediate WR after he's off the board.   And next year's draft will be excellent at WR.   And the following.   And then the 2026 draft will be off the chain at WR.   There are a lot of them coming.

The board may melt down if Beane takes, oh I don't know, what he believes is a true #1 lock down cb at 28 if his round 1 receivers are all gone. And if he does, it's because there's so much talent beyond the top 8-10 receivers.

Please explain who the 6’3 220 pound guy with elite hands, track speed, who can separate and has excellent body control will be available at 28. Legette is 6’1, Coleman had iffy contested catch rates, and Mitchell despite his combine numbers hasn’t shown he can separate

Legette is 6' 1" with a 40" vertical. He's a textbook definition of "plays bigger than he is."

That’s great but a majority of those set starters for next year sat behind the guys that got curb stomped yet again by the chiefs. I’m not down on them and will always take Josh vs the world but we are absolutely in the middle of a rebuild. The guys we’re hanging on to are mid level talent at best and these are Josh’s prime years. As much as i hate to say it, Im starting to believe the talking heads suggesting the Super Bowl window for this squad is shut for good but am sincerely hoping to be proven wrong

Curbed stomped? That's how you define being within striking distance of winning the game with the final drive?

Dalton Kincaid is an important part of our Offense. But he's not "WR2".

When we speak of WR2 - most of us are talking about the Starting Boundary WR opposite Stefon Diggs. Dalton Kincaid is not that, nor can he be. He's a Big Slot.

Even if you're referring to WR2 as the second passing option outside of Diggs and taking Slot into account, his numbers were still under Gabe Davis and Khalil Shakir last season.

Again, DK is very important to us. But he's definitely not WR2, any way you slice it.

Kincaid was targeted 10 more times than Davis last year, and the first half of the season he was being coddled.

Next season he should have closer to 120 targets, and be the clear #2. And his ypr will hopefully grow.

It's like how Kelce has been the clear #1 for the Chiefs since Tyreek left.
