I voted for can both.
Dennison is a terrible OC. The fixation on Tolbert, the lack of a screen game, the run offense going from 1st in consecutive years to middle of the road.
I do not want to see Dennison again under any circumstance.
The only way i want to see TT play for the Bills again is if we draft a 1st rd QB in this years draft and TT is a 1 year stop gap (even though I would prefer a different vet back there).

Alex Smith has better passing stats due to Yards After Catch (hence my better play caller comment).
Chiefs YAC 2,209 (2nd in NFL)
Bills YAC 1,355 (31st in NFL)
Smith is a pretty limited passer with many of the same problems that TT has.
He's not a bad QB, but you're not going to make the superbowl with Smith as your QB.

Alex Smith is a slightly better better Tyrod with a significantly better play caller.
I'd be OK with signing him as a stop gap, but a trade? Not more than a 6th rounder....

I thought Tyrod outplayed Bortles by a wide margin in terms of throwing the ball, not that that is saying much......
Bills had a lot of drops today. O'leary killed a driver, Thompson allowed the Jags to get points at end of 1st (probably....IF we convert the 3rd and 2). The play where Clay stepped out of bounds I'm counting as a drop. killed another driver killer.

These threads pop up every now and then. Taxes aren't as simple as saying if you make 1 mil in New York you'll pay 8% more in taxes than someone making 1 mil in Florida.
There's other factors to consider. If a professional athlete plays in NYC or LA they garner much more media attention and have a better chance at landing lucrative endorsement deals.
I'd be surprised if any professional athlete has ever decided to not sign with a team in New York state because of the state tax rate.

Tyrod is a fairly mediocre QB that has proven he can win games in the NFL. Peterman was a rookie 5th rounder that had shown he could play well in preseason and against a Saints defense that was playing prevent.
The decision to bench Tyrod for Peterman when the Bills were 5-4 and in the thick of the playoff race was one of the worst coaching moves made this year in the NFL. It could have been a fireable offense if McDermott was not a rookie coach exceeding expectations for the season. The only other comparable coaching choice I can think of this year was McAdoo benching Eli Manning for Geno Smith, and that one did get McAdoo fired.
The decision to bench Tyrod in and of itself is not a bad one. He's clearly not THE guy and it's clear the Bills do not view him as the QB of the future. The problem is who we benched him for, as well as when we benched him.

He might be a respected veteran and good leader in the locker room, but the guy is not an NFL caliber RB2. His usage this year has been ludicrous. I can't recall a Bills player that was so ineffective on the field being given this many opportunities before.
With Cadet hurt if Shady needs a breather I'd rather see Joe Webb run the ball than Tolbert.

Tyrod's passing stats are anywhere from mediocre to bad. I don't think anyone is going to argue that.
In your "comprehensive" review of Tyrod you've conveniently left out his running ability. He's an excellent rushing QB.
If you look at Tyrod "comprehensively" he is, in fact, a decent QB.

Depends on your definition of 'serious contender'. I think they are the only team in the AFC that has a chance against New England or Pitt. I'd put the Jags chance of winning the superbowl at 5%. I just don't trust Bortles

I'm fully on board the fire Dennison train. He's overly conservative, not imaginative, and in general BAD.
At least we didn't feature Tolbert as RB2 today (was it Dennison's decision to scratch him?)

1) End of the first half against Tampa Bay. 2nd and 2 from the TB 18 yard line with no timeouts and 12 seconds on the clock. Calls a 2 yard dump off in the center of the field. Time runs out and the Bills waste an easy FG opportunity. ** This one could be TT fault, but McD took ownership of it.
2) 4th and 1 from the Colts 41 in OT with 4:13 on the clock (2 timeouts). He waits for the playclock to run almost all the way down before taking a timeout to think things over. He then decides to punt when the most likely outcome after the punt is a tie or loss, and a tie or loss would've drastically reduced our chance at playoffs.
3) 4th and 7 from the Dolphins 36 early in the 3rd quarter. Bills up 21-6 and the defense is playing great. McD takes a timeout to think things over. He then decides to go for it and calls a low % play to just lob a pass for Clay towards the end zone. If you don't have faith in Hauschka just punt it. Why go for it this early and give the Fish a chance at gaining momentum on a short field?
All 3 of those were ridiculously bad decisions, but we did win all 3 of those games.

The rest of the suggestions are, at best, misguided.

There's degrees of conservative/aggressive playcalling. Going for it on a 4th and 4 from your own 31 with 2+ minutes left in OT is extremely aggressive.
Say the Colts go for it and don't convert (very high chance they don't convert) and the Bills kick a FG to win. How do you think Chargers/Ravens view that? Knowing they would be out of a playoff spot b/c the Colts decided to take a ridiculous risk?

The outcome of the game doesn't really matter for the Colts.
They had a 4th and 4 from their own 31. Going for it (and not converting) would have been viewed pretty negatively around the league.

In sports and politics always beware a stat that so neatly fits a narrative.
Why are we looking at only Zay Jones? How do the rest of our RB's/WR's/TE's look for this stat? Looking at the stat for just 1 WR would also include Nathan Peterman targets to Zay Jones.
This stat just means that TT has a lot of intentional throw aways in Zay jones general direction (in addition to a number of missed throws - chemistry perhaps?).
Despite the popular narrative, TT is NOT an inaccurate passer. Look at his completion % for the season and his career. He's fairly average. I think a lot of people on this board underestimate how bad the "average" NFL QB is.

Whaley was the GM, he gets full blame/credit for any draft pick. If Whaley was letting Rex dictate every draft pick why would we even have Whaley on the payroll?

I really have no idea what the ref thought he saw there. Gaines was close to hitting the guy in the head, but he clearly didn't. The Chiefs head didn't snap either.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if Gaines HAD hit the guy in the head it still wouldn't be a penalty. Once a receiver catches the ball and starts running up field they are no longer considered to be defenseless.
I thought the holding on Dawkins on our last good drive in the 4th was a pretty bad call as well. After not calling a hold the entire game you decide to call that ticky tack penalty? Cost the Bills at least a FG....

We won and this will be forgotten pretty quickly.

I was wondering if a team that was 5-4 or better had ever benched a starting QB for a rookie before. Great find on the 2004 Giants!
The Giants started that year 5-2. Lost the next 2 and decided to start their rookie QB at 5-4. They proceeded to lose the next 6 games before winning in week 17 to finish 6-10.
Wow....let's hope the Bills season doesn't end at 6-10. It'll be worth it if Peterman becomes the next Eli Manning, although I have my doubts there. There's a reason Peterman was drafted #171 overall and Eli went #1 overall

How is it not mostly Dennison's fault? He took over an offense with the top rushing attack in consecutive years, and (with the same personnel) has dropped it to 14th?
His playcalling is suspect at best. How many times do we need to run Tolbert up the gut into a stacked box before he can admit that's a bad idea? Or throws to Tolbert in the flat? Pretty much any play featuring Tolbert is a bad idea.
Teams have been stacking the box against TT since 2015 and our previous coordinators found ways to run the ball effectively.

That's only a valid point if your DEF is holding the other team in check until the 3rd/4th quarter. The Bills D got shredded from the 1st play. There were 3 drives the Saints didn't score on. Their 2nd drive when they fumbled in the red zone. And the other 2 were the end of the 1st and 2nd half (kneeling the clock out).

TT is a known quantity. Our 5th round rookie QB is not. I don't put much stock in preseason or playing 2 series at the tail end of a historic blowout loss.

Why on earth would we trade for Dalton or Smith? If the goal is to make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round we already have Tyrod....
