To be fair it hasn't been nearly long enough to make that determination. He was a rookie for Pete sake, I mean were you expecting him to have a DK Metcalf type rookie year? Lol, come on man....

I agree he has a ways to go, but other than the Punt Returns that scared the ***** out of all of us, he didn't get many opportunities. We will see how he does this next season and how he could be used. But I wouldn't write him off just yet

Hey, I could be wrong but I'm just calling it as I see it. Some guys are rough around the edges but may have untapped potential. To me, Stevenson looked like he doesn't even belong anywhere near an NFL field.

What did you see that makes you believe otherwise?

Whoever is against the stadium deal should just say "I want the Bills to leave WNY"

Either this deal happens or the team leaves. There is no "yeah but" where NFL owners suddenly have an epiphany and realize how awful it is to take public money.

    At least be honest.

There is no reality where you're in favor of the team staying but don't want to use massive amounts of public money. That world doesn't exist, so it's pointless to keep writing articles about it.

    It really is this simple.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on the matter, this is the bottom line truth. Engaging in hypothetical discussions is completely useless. There is a way things should be, and a way things are.

I for one am extremely happy about this deal.

He got burned?  He must suck!  Tre White got lit up his rookie year against AJ Green, so he must suck too.

C'mon man, you can do better than this. Of course every CB gets beat from time to time. It's the nature of the position. Where did I imply that this wasn't the case?

    What an asinine post

Fair enough, but their needs are very different than ours at this point.  The Panthers are very far from being a SB team, and they have a lot of other needs to address, to the point where an expensive, older CB is a luxury they can't afford.  It was pretty stupid of them to trade for Gilmore last season instead of conserving draft picks, but pretty stupid is how you get to be in their situation these days.

They are definitely not a well run team, but there is a need opposite Donte Jackson at corner. From what I can tell down here with Carolina fans, they weren't overly impressed with his play last season.

  5. 3 minutes ago, Utah John said:

Gilmore was an excellent cover CB while he was in Buffalo, but he didn't tackle worth a damn.  I always figured he was trying not to get injured so he could play long enough to cash in on a big contract, and really who can blame him for that?  The fact that he left the Bills for a big contract elsewhere is just business.  The fact that he left the Bills to go THERE is harder to swallow.

On today's Bills team, he wouldn't fit in, because everyone is supposed to tackle well.  (Insert Tremaine Edmunds comment here.)  But if the Bills thought they could compensate for that, he'd be a lot better than other options.  The price, though, is probably not within reach considering the Bills have already checked under the sofa cushions and returned all their pop bottles for change, and they're about out of cash at this point.

It's interesting that the Panthers, who traded for him mid-season and have the most cap space in the NFL, apparently are not trying to resign him. Especially since Gilmore is from the Charlotte area

I do wish we were bringing Jerry Hughes back this season.

He's been top 10 or top 20 in pressures or pass rush win rate multiple times over the past few seasons. I know the sack numbers aren't there, but he's been a productive pass rusher for the Bills for a while now.

I think that the attention Von Miller will attract on 3rd downs would only make him better, similar to when he get to rush opposite Mario Williams.

Alas, I suppose it was time to move on to the trio of youngsters and hope they step up. Doesn't make it any less sad to see a good guy, good player, and team leader like Jerry Hughes not get brought back.

I'm not sure he won't be back. Everyone is saying we don't have room, but don't the Bills usually roll with 9 or 10 DL's?

Right now there is 9 I believe:

    DT Settle

    DT Jones

    DT Oliver

    DT Phillips

    DE Miller

    DE Rousseau

    DE Lawson

    DE Epenesa

    DE Basham

Zimmer and Jerry are the only remaining FA's of interest with Ankou presumably bound for the practice squad. I can definitely see a scenario where Lawson or Epenesa are not on the final roster and Jerry accepts a reduced contract/role to give it one more go. He's still an effective player, and I don't think he would sign with another team that isn't a Super Bowl contender. We shall see I guess, but I hope something happens as the offseason goes on.

The Bills were the worst yards after catch team in the entire NFL last year.

They NEED someone who can take a short pass and do some damage to keep defense's honest.

    It's not a want.........it's a NEED.

Before Josh Allen turned into RB1 and his 200-carry-season-pace made the Bills offense almost impossible to defend for 4 quarters........there were games where their lack of RAC ability and explosiveness in the short passing game was extremely detrimental.

Adding Jamison Crowder and his woeful 3.5 yac figure last year shouldn't be counted on to change that aspect.

I like the Crowder signing but absolutely agree we still need receiver help. The lack of a true gamebreaker is the final piece this offense has been missing with Allen.

The depth right now of Boettger, Ford, Doyle, and Mancz is pretty freakin weak.  We have 1 starter on a rookie deal, 2 backups - one whos barely played and one who is terrible.  Not to mention our starting RT is nowhere near a finished product.  I'd say starting RG is probably a need, and a swing tackle to at least compete is another.

I don't think it is as bad as you are stating. Boettger, Ford, and Mancz all have starting experience, and Doyle has significant athletic upside.

That said, the Bills roster is in good enough shape as a whole where they can afford to use a meaningful draft pick on depth. I just don't see it as anywhere near the need as WR or CB.

Basically will be they wont break ground until summer next year

Salary cap is 200 million per year and NYS has a 10% salary tax right?

Someone do math on 20x30(years) its almost the entire public funding and thats not counting non player personell and tons of other things like sales tax on sales etc.

These are rough numbers, but let's try anyways...

Ny state outlay = 650 million

    Lease term = 30 years

Eligible taxpayers in NY as of today = 14 million

Tax burden for each NY resident = approximately 2 dollars extra per year per taxpayer

Boy, let me grab my pitchforks to fight...nothing???

Part of me agrees, but on the other hand we need our young DEs to grow and they needs snaps to do so. Right now we have Miller, Rousseau, Basham, Epenesa and Lawson. So unless Lawson is just a camp body or unless they give up on Epenesa and trade him I don't see Hughes coming back.

    Interesting.

Yep it can't come at the expense of the young guys playing time, and we already have a vet leader in Miller.

I agree it's unlikely unless one of the two conditions you mentioned occurs.

So if I understand if correctly, none of these former Bills players has a new contract so far:

    Jerry Hughes

    Mario Addison

    Daryl Williams

    Cole Beasley

    Star Lotulelei

    A.J. Klein

    Emmanuel Sanders

I wonder how many of them won't play a snap in NFL anymore.

I would still like to see the Bills bring Jerry back, BUT only at a discounted rate and with the understanding he would get 15-20 snaps max per game

    Thorton is a sleeper. Burner

That may be but I'd prefer we don't wait until the 5th round if a blue chipper like Dotson or Olave is available, especially given the recent developments in the WR market.

It's time we up our game and commit to giving our franchise QB some more help. We've addressed the biggest defensive need already with Miller, and the strength of the AFC at the QB position requires that we become even more potent offensively. Pass rush trumps cornerback and we can still find depth on the boundary through a vet FA or trade.

Look at how KC reacted after the Hill trade in signing Valdes Scantling, with still 25 year old Juju also on board. Look at the weapons a guy like Joe Burrow has at his disposal. The Bills need to stop acting like they're the Packers with Aaron Rodgers and give Josh Allen a legit game breaker to work with.

    185. Tyquan Thornton WR Baylor

    203. Matt Araiza P San Diego State

    231. Isaiah Weston WR Northern Iowa

And yet again we ignore Allen and the offensive side of the ball until the middle of the draft. Is it too much to ask for the Bills to select one premium offensive playmaker with speed? Like, once maybe?

People have a warped view of him because he didn't dive for that fumble in the Super Bowl.  He never played soft and the narrative after his MVP season is he's just built differently and can take all that punishment.  He should definitely be a cautionary tale for the Bills.

This is true. The good news is that Allen is 10 times the passer that Cam ever was.

Can you believe that in his MVP season he was a sub 60 percent thrower? And 2015 was by far his best. Newton reminds of Ryan Miller when he played for the Sabres - 1 standout year (in Miller's case 2009-2010) and then decidedly average otherwise.

There is a chance he makes a reasonable jump this year. Anyone who is writing the Dolphins off are naive. Are they the class of the AFC? No, but they will be vastly improved and will strongly compete for a playoff spot.

What does this mean as it relates to the Bills and AFC East supremacy? There's not much reason so far for anybody to be scared of Miami

Why all the "fiscal experts " come out of the proverbial  closet at "stadium  building time".. laughable .. if they knew , read what the govt subsidizes , this is nothing.. it is a quality of life thing that any clear thinking person would "get" .. its not giving money to authorize  a study on fish excrement and how it affects the lakes. its a plus for Buffalo , jesus.. frustrating to even read the nonsense

Exactly. The rare time when taxpayer expenditures will actually benefit Western New York and NOW all the people complain? There wasn't this much uproar for the Yankees and Mets stadiums. It's really beyond belief

The media loves talking about how much better Josh Allen is now compared to his 1st 2 years, like it came outta nowhere and in my opinion that’s simply lazy on their part.

I went back and read the message board archives during Allens rookie season (I have too much time on my hands) and the sense most of us had was after Josh sat out a bit with his injury the game started to slow down for him and he was consistently showing us that he had the it factor to be what he’s become.

His Online was terrible and his WRs helped him even less yet he was still out there running for 18 yards on a 3rd and 16. Or firing a ball on 3rd and 22 past the sticks hitting Kelvin Benjamin or Zay Jones in the hands who would consistently let him down.

The point was it was clear to us that he was special early regardless of the completion %.

These NFL analysts should set their game up.

I love the narrative that Allen sucked before Diggs came along while not acknowledging that Stefon far exceeded career heights once coming to Buffalo
