They could have done that. If they had though, would it have changed things so far this year? That is all I'm saying. I would have been OK with starting Allen from day 1 and all that would have done is give him 1.5 games more experience. And the same record as we have now. And reliance on a backup when he got hurt, the quality of the backup being questionable regardless.
I will say it again. PEOPLE AREN'T UPSET CAUSE OF THE RECORD of the team. They are upset with what the Bills call an NFL offense. The way the league is now any QB should easily pass for 150 yds or more no matter the talent. Thats why I said any of those other QB's that were available would have helped this offense. Sorry to say Allen is not ready.

Let's try reading once again. The guys that were available in March 2018. The guys we could have chosen. Other than maybe Bridgewater they were all pretty much the same guy.
Foles did well. Have to give him credit. But that's extraordinarily rare.
They may all be the same but they would all be an upgrade over what the Bills have been trotting out at QB. I am sure most would easily be able to throw for more yards then what the Bills average now.

My take is not that people are upset about the record of the team but were expecting some semblance of an NFL offense. With the way the league is now, regardless of how little talent on offense a team has, you should be able to throw for over 150 yards easy.

I know but I just don't understand
I do understand. A lot of fans want to see some semblance of a real NFL offense. You're not going to win much in this league relying on your defense for turnovers every week.
-
The worst part is that the the last couple of Bills coache have the 1960's belief of winning in the NFL. You won't win many games playing conservative offense with less then 150 yds passing. I don't know wjy so many of you Rockpile fans yearn for that kind of football.
-
While he may have had some nice throws he is still an inaccurate QB. I think the main reason a lot of fans aren't happy with his play is cause in a pass happy league the Bills and their QB play like its still the 1960's.

I am so sick of hearing/reading things like this. It is year #1 of the offensive staff and our mostly inexperienced players working together. Right now, we are still installing the basic offense at the pace the players can handle, which is kind of slow. If they are struggling to carry out the basic plays, what makes anyone think they'll do better with more creativity? IMO that will only lead to more confusion. Gotta learn to walk before we run. As they gain experience together and assuming the players progress, Daboll should be able to open things up and try new things. Don't be surprised if that doesn't happen this season.
Also, stats may not lie but they sure can be manipulated to achieve a desired outcome.
Nice write up OP, thanks for posting.
If thats true, then how come the Browns and the Jets don't use basic offense for their rookie QB's.

Get off my, “you know”, lawn
Does it bother you that there are people out there that actually go to the game for the game. Its not all about table slamming and pouring ketchup all over your face.

I take it your not a local WNYer? The Sabres are big in Buffalo but a lot of people on this board are not locals
They may not be local now but I gather that a lot of them used to be from WNY. How can those people be passionate about one team and not the other.

Tailgate
I am guessing thats the reason people don't want a new stadium downtown. It would be a shame to go to the game to "you know" to watch the game.

I don't understand how so many of you are so passionate about your home town football team but don't carry that same passion for the hockey team.

5+ of losing hockey post a decade of mediocre hockey will do that. Hopefully we can get back to the Briere/Drury days of fan level.
The Bills have been losing just as long minus last season and look bad again this year but fans still come out and fill the stands.
-
Happy for the win. They played a great game. Wish more people in Buffalo would be more passionate about the hockey team like they are the football team.

Its been a very good game so far. An improvement from last season. Wish the fans were louder like the Bills game. They can get loud for a 2 and 3 team that plays little offense but are quiet for the Sabres

When their offense looks like it belongs on an NFL field post 1975.
To be fair a lot of the fans on here yearn for that kind of offense. They miss the days of the rockpile

Im excited for the game tonight and the season. I think they will take a step forward and be in the race for the playoffs but just miss out. If the Bills are out of the playoff race early hopefully more people will take notice of the Sabres.

Its never made sense to me to be a season ticket holder from across the country. To me the whole point of being a season ticket holder is to go to the games not make your money back off of them.

It seems like the ones that hate the way the game is now are the fans who lived through the Rockpile days.
The way the game is played now it makes me question why the Bills have seemed to hire defensive minded coaches. Its not a blue collar game anymore. For some reason a lot of Bills fans don't want a team that throws the ball up and down the field.

I like Sal, but take what he says about McBeane with a grain of salt. He is a bit of an apologist for them . . . .
Yeah cause he and Murph wear rose coloured glasses. They think the Bills can do no wrong.

You know what would help with the long lines to get through security? Stop bringing your whole house with you into the stadium. All you should need is your wallet, your car keys and your phone.

Ridiculous!! Next they are going to ban the excessive squirting of ketchup on ones face
What's so ridiculous? Tailgating is for having some drinks and bbq before the game. It shouldn't be about being belligerent and acting like an idiot. This is why I can see when they get a new stadium banning private lots.

No one here has an obsession with 1960s football, Bobby. This is all in your head.
That's not true at all. A lot of the older fans that are from the Rockpile days would love a team that runs the ball a lot and plays hard defense.

I am hoping the Sabres get off to a great start this season. Pull some of the frustrated Bills fans over to the Blue and Gold and show them how a team represents their city.

Well, I’d chill with the rhetoric with phrases like ballistic. Maybe sub in a word like critical.
from there, take the 1.13m we just flushed for a single game from kerley. Add 3 more for Coleman. You are starting to get towards “why not just sign a decent wr instead of wasting money”
then look at DT with 20m tied up in dareus/star. Think carrying dareus and signing an OT or OG would’ve been better for this roster?
then, look at the 10m in QBs not on the roster and peterman starting the season for us.
then look at vontae
then Trent ped Murphy.
then paying dimarco for like 2 snaps.
you start to see why people are questioning resource allocation and if better planning avoids some of this.
yes we have a lot of dead money but did we inflict that unnecessarily? And did we waste some that we spent? Is guaranteeing a guy over $1m and cutting him less than a week later good business?
Trust the process. Smash mouth 1960's football is what the older fans want anyways. For that all you need is a good RB and a decent defense. Who wants to see a high powered offense. 6-3 games are where its at.
Why the handling of the QBs wouldn't have changed anything

Wins do matter but you need a decent passing game to win consistently in this league. McDermott thinks its the Rockpile days still where running the ball and playing good defense will win.
