Make no mistake.  I root for them and want them to win.  I wish I could divest from my view but I simply don't see Botterill as a good GM.  That is an opinion I'll grant you that.  The opinion is derived from the bad product on the ice which is simply undeniable and not opinion based.

Its been one season. I like the moves he made this off season and it takes time to clean up the mess from the last GM

The NHL has no one but themselves to blame. Worst run league in all of sports.

Yes I will admit they aren't good at marketing their sport. At least there will be no lockouts for awhile. The players agreed to keep the current deal in place for 3 more seasons.

    What makes poorly run?

For that whole stretch, the bills were never the worst team in the league, unlike the sabres.

Funny thing about him is he's a miserable bills fan, but mister Rogers when it comes to the sabres.

I'm miserable about the Bills cause I am not a BILLiever in what they are doing. Quite frankly the Rockpile era fans bug me with their love of old school football. And  being against any talk of a new stadium with a smaller tailgating area.

As far as the Sabres go, I am liking what the new GM is building and am hopeful with the new coach. To be honest I find hockey a much more entertaining sport. Who doesn't like hits, fights and goals.

16 football games over a year isn't that big a commitment.

162 baseball games and 82 hockey games for a ****** team is basically a significant relationship in your life.

you call it a box score?  one of those Americanisms i guess....  :D

i've watched about..... geez.... 43 years x 75 per year approx......  cripes I've watched over 3,000 Leafs games, gone to about 400, guess about 80% were with a rancid crappy Toronto team....

it hasn't been fun with the new league alignment, gone are the days the Leafs could win 25 regular season games and get to game 7 of the second round, I miss the Norris Division so much.

A box score fan is ones who only look at the final score and not even watch to see how the team plays. I don't expect people to watch every Sabres game but it's not that difficult to look at what they have done with off season moves. The Sabres like hockey in most of the U.S. is an afterthought.

    3 questions:

How much patience should be required?

When you're the worst team in all of sports over the last five years, should there be any urgency to accompany the patience?

When is the draft lottery being held?

They finally have a good gm and I believe will take a big step forward this year. Its funny cause the Bills have been bad just as long but fans will be patient with them but expect immediate results for the Sabres.

Because, again, they've been the worst team in the NHL for the past decade.

Just horrible. Tell me about these improvements that may push them into average territory.

The Bills haven't been great either in that time frame. They added a couple of new players, one of which played for the Bruins. They should challenge for a playoff spot but fall short like the Bills this season.

    No, I don't follow hockey off-season nonsense.

Or the minors. I watch the games until they're eliminated in November.

I could say the same about Bills off-season nonsense. Having a pre training camp training camp in May is dumb. The Sabres made some good moves this off season and should be a much better team. It will be the Sabres 50th season next year and yet most Bills fans in Buffalo could care less.

    Because the team blows?

They have but the new GM has then on the right track and should be better this season. Its going to be a slow build like the Bills have been. I am guessing you only look at the box score and haven't seen some of the moves they made this off season.

  8. They need to bring back the blackout rule. If you want to see your team play, watch them at the stadium. I think a new domed stadium downtown would be great. It draw in a lot of people that don't go to many games anymore since they don't have to deal with the elements

I don't blame anyone for being impatient. The mistakes of the past decision-makers not only didn't advance the team but set it back. I believe the Sabres will be improved this year but are at least a year away from being a playoff team. (Would love to be proven wrong.) Our GM is going to make sensible deals to improve the team such as the Skinner, Montour, Joki for Nylander etc. but he is not going to mortgage the future for short term gains.

I wish people would have the same passion for the Sabres as they do the Bills. You don't see many Sabres fans in other parts of the U.S.  like you do the Bills. I get it that most Americans don't like hockey. Its a shame cause it's an amazing sport.

Logic, I had to resurrect this.

I was watching Titans-Jags, and they just LOOKED different from the Bills.  Granted, Mariota was in trouble most of the night, because his protection looked like the Bills' pass protection last season.   And both teams were playing some quality, attacking defense.  But it looked different.

Eventually, I realized that the difference is that the Bills EXECUTE, all of them EXECUTE, on every play.  The Titans and Jags had too many plays where they just flat out blew their assignments - dropped passes, poorly thrown passes, missed tackles.   Often, the success they had was based some really good athlete  making a really good play, but then it was followed by a really good athlete missing an ordinary play.   The Bills don't miss many ordinary plays.   The Jags and Titans often had looks of frustration on their faces, frustration that something didn't work.   The Bills rarely look frustrated, just determined.

I think the Bills are fundamentally different from a lot of other teams, not just the bottom five or eight.   They're working in a culture where everyone executes, and as the talent improves, the quality of the play will improve.

    It's exciting.

As exciting as it is, I would love to see the same excitement for Sabres hockey. They seem to be on the right track and some reason most seem to not like hockey.

The below link is a mailbag response to questions by Lance Lysowski of the Buffalo News. He talked about some of the players who are fighting for roster spots. The most interesting section for me related to our GM and the job he is doing. I agree with his positive assessment. I know that a lot of people don't agree that our GM has done a good job.

For some reason they will have patience for the Bills to be a good team but expect playoffs immediately for the Sabres

I think you and a lot of other people jumped to the wrong conclusion about what I said.

I completely and totally agree with what I quoted above.  I never said and never I tended to say their success came because they cheated lied or were immoral.  I think what they have accomplished is incredible.  I think McD is trying to copy a lot of it and I'm fine with that.

What I said is that they are amoral, and I said I don't like that.  They aren't gentlemen and they aren't sportsmen, and I dont like that.  They don't care about treating opponents and other people fairly; they just care about winning. I dont like that

I think if you asked McD about this and he talked candidly, he would tell you that his objective is to build a successful team that has bgh higher goals than the Pat's.  It would be a team that honors and respects all people, doesn't lie and doesn't cheat.  I think he would say that winning at all costs is NOT what he wants.

I know that makes it harder; winning without morality is easier.  McD just has a higher standard. I like that and it makes me proud of my team.

I think it was clear I was talking about the current regimes, not prior ownership or management.  So I'm not interested in all of your pre-McD arguments.

Sorry but in a league that you said is hard to win in, winning should come at all costs. Its not the Rockpile days, lunch pail type teams don't win consistently in this league.

oh really.  it's not like they didn't have enough turnovers to over come missing an a kick or two.  it's wasn't the kicker that lost the game for the jets.  the entire team did.  he didn't help, but it was a terrible showing by the jets offensively, and an outstanding performance by the bills defense.  it's probably just easier to ignore that...isn't it?

Its cause you drink light beer that's the real reason.

josh contributed to almost 6 turnovers.

turnover #1 - josh allen is careless and get stripped in pocket

turnover #2- josh allen throws bad pass low, bounces off beasley, intercepted

turnover almost #3 - josh allen throws bad pass. gets intercepted. nullified by jets penalty.

turnover #3 - josh allen muffs snap

turnover #4 - josh allen pass tipped. ball comes out low, right through an unblocked edge rusher.

turnover almost #6 - josh allen throws bad pass, dropped by defender  maye

Its ok, Allen led them down the field for the win so you can overlook them. ?

He is still an inaccurate QB but he is the saviour so its not important.

If Josh Allen was Nathan Peterman, he'd be yanked at halftime of this game. Another tipped pass. Another turnover. Bills defense doesn't need much from the other side of the ball … but needs a lot more than this

What he is saying is true, but cause he is Allen is the saviour and franchise, its ok.

Cause Bills fans want to BILLieve so bad in Allen, you overlook how bad his first half was. It was Peterman level bad.
