I think Babich is going to be a really good DC. Kind of surprised he chose to stay here and be under McDermott rather than branch out and work for an offensive minded HC. But I think he's got a really bright future and a path to be a HC one day if he desires.

This is what I think as well. And in 2 years they will draft Davis's replacement. They have shown this is what they like to do at RB in the past with Singletary. That said Cook is a good back. He'll find someone to pay him well if he keeps being productive. The drops, fumbles and mediocre pass blocking skills leave him below elite level, however.

Couldn't Haack it. Matt released.
BuffaloBillyG replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
I figured the definitely wanted some competition for Martin in TC. Signing Haack meant they could do that if they didn't pick one or land one as an unrestricted FA after the draft. After landing a guy after the draft that not only means Haack lost his spot to a guy that never played football before in Stevenson...but he was also 3rd on the depth chart...at Punter. Not sure which is more embarrassing. -
Dodging a bullet here. Hoping the UDFA punter makes the team. Youger/cheaper with kicking crossover.

Looks like we made it through another week! One week closer to the Bills/Cardinals home opener and the first (possible) step to Super Bowl Glory. And again, I give kudos to those that asked some really thoughtful and thought provoking questions this week. Still, many more topics that can be covered. Looking forward to it. For this week's Friday question of the day I would like to keep it easy and light. One of my personal favorite questions to ask people is simply "why". For many it's just something you're born into through family. For others it's a geographic thing. Yet others are fans of this team and have no ties to the area. No family that roots for the Bills. So the question of the day is: What led to you being a Buffalo Bills fan? For me, I actually have my Mom to thank for it. She was a single mother in the 80s when it wasn't as widely normal to be such. With me at home she was raising a little boy with no male role model in the picture. She wanted me to have as normal an upbringing as other boys, so one thing she did was learn everything she possibly could about football. And I grew up every Sunday with Sunday Sauce on the stove and the Bills game on watching football with my mother. She actually grew to be a big Bills fan and even took me to my first game. She let me pick 2 friends from school to bring and we were off to see the Joe Ferguson and the Bills take on the Jets. One of my fondest memories of childhood was during that game as I watched my Ma make a Jets fan that was being loud and obnoxious actually tear up and leave the game in the 3rd quarter. Yup. That was my Mom. She's been gone now for almost 28 years, and WHEN the Bills finally hoist that Lombardi, she will be the first person I think of. So, what's your story? What are you the way you are (a Bills fan, in this case).

Aaron Rodgers limping at Jets OTA's
BuffaloBillyG replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
For the most part I agree with you here. However, fair to also remember that this time last year I believe he had some calf muscle injuries that were a "nothing burger" and went on to snap his ACL in 4 snaps. There comes a point in a large number of players careers that their body has taken enough punishment and doesn't bounce back the same. Injuries are easier to reinjure and one problem leads to another. And playing on that crap surface they have at MetLife doesn't help matters. Will be a miracle if he makes it through the season. -
Bills sign Chase Claypool, Smoot, Jones
BuffaloBillyG replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Before going on a rant you may want to dive into what is being said about the topic. Literally was quoting someone that said he hopes he's one of the early cuts. That's rooting he fails. Literally. So, yeah your whole reply is complete and utter nonsense. Have a great day! -
Coach: Steve Fairchild. Former OC in 2006-2007. Absolutely zero point in his whole offense. Zero game awareness. He is the only coach that could make Nate Hackett look like a Andy Reid out there. Just a terrible OC. Player: Jerry Hughes. Like the guy. Disliked the penalties (some deserved some questionable) that he seemed to attract. And strongly disliked the whole "pressures are as good as sacks" argument that would spring up every year.

Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
BuffaloBillyG replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Is going to be? That's not certain. Could he be on that offense? Sure. But here's the thing I do know...Pearsall was there when we traded. If Beane saw his value up and above the guys he had high on his board they likely stick and pick. It's all a crap shoot at this point. -
I remember those games! They did them for quite a few years IIRC. Still remember Don Beebe tossing alley-oop passes to himself and dunking. What was awesome about those games is it wasn't just the low roster players showing up as well. Each squad had a couple real big names on it. Those were so much fun to go to. My mom would bring me to a couple each summer. Thank you for bringing back this memory!

Well, due to his low cost and versatility in ST, Hollins has always been a near lock for the 53. Only ways he doesn't make it IMO are injury or Shorter showing all world abilities while Hollins face plants. I do however remember a ton of talk this time last year from Beane and especially Josh about Trent Sherfield the exact same way as they are talking about Hollins now. So I'd still temper expectations for offensive productivity.

Caleb Williams is off to a rough rookie start
BuffaloBillyG replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, remember the "Mahomes is stinking it up" chatter in the camp before he took over as starter? The "Rookie/young QB struggles in camp" and "(Insert fringe player's name here)'s in the best shape of his life. Big jump coming" articles are rampant every year around this time. -
Welcome all to QOD: Friday Edition! First off, big time props to those that have posted QODs this week. Some really great topics and I look forward to seeing what everyone brings next week. As far as my question this week I figured with it being a long Memorial Day weekend I would try a different style topic. We all love the Bills here and hope for the best. But sometimes the best moments about being a Bills fan take place before or after a game. Or on a day when there is no game. It's the "GO BILLS" you get in random places. It's the ability to have complete conversations with people you've never met before in an airport. It's the way that time after time the "Bills Mafia" rises up and shows support for players, coaches and even fellow fans in need. It's the closeness and almost universal brother and sisterhood of the Buffalo Bills community that makes this franchise special. Honestly, without it and the traditions that come with Bills Fandemonium I am not sure a small market team like us would have made it through a 17 year playoff drought. But the older I get the more I've come to realize that wins are great, championships would be amazing. However, it's the time we share with those we care about that make life worth getting out of bed for. So, my question is this. What is your fondest memory involving the Bills that is NOT a result of what happened on the field? For me, the answer is simple. It was the day I got to take my son to his first game. Seeing his reaction to the tailgating. Seeing his face light up when he walked through the tunnel and saw the huge field in person. Watching his face every time we scored (against the Dolphins no less) and seeing the fireworks and singing the SHOUT! song. I felt like I was seeing it all for the first time through his eyes. Not only one of my best Bills memories, but best memories of my lifetime.

Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
BuffaloBillyG replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Here's the thing. Who's a "sure fire" number 1A from the draft? I mean, there's Harrison. Rome. Nabars. But those aren't promised to be 1As. Great potential, sure. But we've all seen guys touted as top WRs flop. And to be fair, they may see Coleman's ceiling along the same lines as the big 3. I mean is it far fetched to think that if he runs a tenth of a second faster he's probably WR 4 or 5 off the board? Who knows. Of course, doors remain open. With Beane they are never closed entirely. He's always going to look for ways to improve. But he's not going to be desperate and I really don't think he's interested in moving draft picks in addition to the large contract for the big names people are hoping for. -
Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
BuffaloBillyG replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, the WR debates remind me a lot of the MLB debates from last off season. You both hit the nail on the head, I think, when you say they like what they have for now. There are questions from the outside for sure. But I have to believe from what I've seen them do in the past that they aren't just throwing 💩 at the wall hoping it sticks. There is a plan and I'm sure the plan is based around what Joe Brady believes he can get from this group. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it shakes out. I do think at least one or two of these cast of WRs steps up. -
Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
BuffaloBillyG replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think if anything we see a FA move next year if needed at WR. I don't see them taking a pass catcher with their first overall pick for a third straight year. Especially if Coleman has a season that is comparable to Kincaid's rookie year last season. I think as long as Coleman shows progress they "embrace the growth mindset". Now, if things start slowly and Coleman has little to no impact early or there are injuries..I CAN see Beane spending one of those 2nd rounders on a WR near the trade deadline...but that's another conversation for another day lol. -
So, he's just really super duper early for Cowboys OTA next year! Now THAT'S work ethic!

Bills sign Chase Claypool, Smoot, Jones
BuffaloBillyG replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I never get the idea of rooting for players that are on the Bills roster to fail from people that are supposed to be fans of the team. Those people would rather "be right" than see the success of others that would add to the success of the team. There's a distinct difference IMO between "thinking" he could be an early cut and "hoping" for it. -

BuffaloBillyG replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
I do agree that if Claypool would have signed with the Chiefs there would be a group that laughed about it and shrugged. There would also be a group saying "Andy will get him open and productive and he's finally got a real QB in Mahomes...he's going to be a weapon". It's the same thing here really. Some are high on the potential that if he recommits to football he can be a good weapon. And he can be based on his production in his first 2 seasons. So it's not that far fetched. And some here are rolling their eyes saying it was a wasted move and the dude is hopeless. And that could be as well based on his last 2 years. In any event, the dude has a Buffalo on his helmet for the moment. I'm going to sit back, watch how the process plays out for him and hope that Claypool figures it out and can be productive. -
What NFL rules changes would you like to see?
BuffaloBillyG replied to NoHuddleKelly12's topic in The Stadium Wall
There are a lot of rules that can be tweaked, improved, eliminated ect. The one thing I would change when it comes to rules is the enforcement of the rules themselves. Many of the rules are subjective and depend on the judgement call of the refs. And I get the "human element" of it all and that they can only see what they see. They have to see it in real time and at real speed with 1,000, things happening all around them. It's a much tougher job than Joe Fan wants to admit. However, in a day where the NFL fines players every week for miniscule things such as blocking...the errors made weekly by the officials go by without them being held accountable. But we do have the technology now to assist them. And that's what I think they should do. There should be an Electric Official assigned every game to call obvious penalties, overrule the bad calls and things like that. Furthermore, when there is a replay I wish the NFL would do what the XFL (or maybe it was one of the other "spring leagues" did...they all kinda blend together) and show the replay official in the booth with live audio so we can hear what they are doing/saying in the review process. -
I share your concern with Brown. First Id heard that he had surgery was yesterday and I immediately thought of how he looked when he didn't have an off-season program a couple years before. Hopefully it's just precautions that kept him from participating. Anyone know if he was swinging a bat at the Micah Hyde softball game? What I'm most concerned about with Brown is that if he can't go or he doesn't play well because of the altered off season is his backups to me are a big bag of bleh. Beane made a point around the draft when discussing Collins that they see him at RT depth and then maybe some guard. And I really like Ryan Van Demark...on the left side. He didn't look great in preseason when they had him at RT. Now maybe a year past that he's improved there and is serviceable but we won't know til we know. As you said at C at least there are some options if McGovern struggles. I think Beane grabbing one of if not the best pure C in the draft is a signal that they aren't really sold on one of either McGovern at C or Edwards at LG. I think over the long term Edwards is a placeholder on the OL and we eventually see McGovern shifted back to LG and the rook at C. But if that happens this year or next...who knows.

Torrence was the guy I wanted before last draft. I was delighted he fell to us in the second round. For a rookie, he looked really good. And I think having a solid RG helped Spencer Brown as the season went on and communication between the two got better. They were beaten on stunts a fair amount, especially early on in the season. I think more reps with Brown will make them pretty solid for this year.
