USA Becoming More Europeanized
UConn James replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm half-Dutch with that side of the family in WNY. I can stand about a day there before I think "What have I done?" and am ready to go home. Given the exodus from WNY and the large Dutch populations there, maybe you're on to something. -
Are we seriously calling for Jaurons head
UConn James replied to Pirate Angel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point, I don't think it matters. We've had the same style of coaching here for the past three hires. Same inept offenses, plus or minus. Same defenses where CBs play 10-15 yards off the opponent's WRs. Either we get off to a bad start, recover, then end bad or we get off to a good start, play badly for a short stretch, recover for a short stretch and then end bad. There's change in the faces and places, but the output and results stay the same. If DJ is fired, or if one of the coordinators is let go as a sacrifice so DJ can stay, nothing will fundamentally change. Just, we'll have to get an entirely new roster of the new coaches' "guys" to fit whatever moron scheme he wants to install and then we'd have to give him the customary 3 years grace during a rebuild. At the rate things are going, it would be Full-time Wildcat. This is the type of coach, and hence, the type of losing schemes that we are stuck with b/c someone doesn't want it to be different. Newsflash. This is a sh-- team. We are among the dregs of the NFL. I'm sure at the OBD team entrance, there's a sign that says "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here." They picked it up for 10 cents at the scrapyard, turned it over and spray-painted a Bills logo on the back. It will not start getting better until Ralph sells or dies. Truth hurts. Sorry 'bout that. -

Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
UConn James replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Maybe it goes into his 4th Q mentality... Nothing to lose and Necessity has seemed to clear his thinking this year. He hit Royal with a laser in traffic and then that's it --- coaches went small-ball. I don't let Lindell off the hook either. And, I fully believe that Lindell is blaming himself --- it's a kick he's made before, could've made and should've made. I'm not about to drive him out of town, b/c he's one of the best in the NFL. I firmly blame Dick and Turk for refusing to let the offense try anymore when they were finally moving the ball with some authority (to go along that their brilliant strategy would've left CLE ~ 40 seconds to kick a figgie of their own with a guy who just made a 56-yarder). You need to keep driving there, and Dick and Turk pulled the car to the side of the road. -

What do you think Jimbo was telling DJ there before the challenge? My guess: "Stop clapping and start coaching, you douche." -

Preston got owned by Rogers there. "Swim move." Our OL play is brutal. Watch the Giants OL and then watch us. Who wants it more? Who's willing to make people hurt? Who plays finesse and apologizes for getting in the way? -

A comment on the WH computer systems.... I had an instructor back at uni who was a speechwriter for a former CT governor. This was back in the early '80s. There was a function at the WH for which they were invited. His wallet was stolen in DC. The security gate had a full-color picture of his driver's license and verified his info w/in 5 minutes. And as I said, this was in the early '80s. In keeping with presidential records laws, all communications need to be archived. There's no personal email for the prez. His West Wing staff have their own, if memory serves this was a point of contention in the Plame scandal for Rove whether emails from those machines/addresses are covered by executive privilege. Historically --- and going to current day --- presidents who wish to send anyone a message had/have to go through the WH secretary or... do it in person, I guess. Why would Obama need male enhancement? He's black.

Al Gore for Climate Change Czar?
UConn James replied to finknottle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The 'Yes, (Prime) Minister' re-airs on our PBS are must-watch for me. Gem of a show (even if it is a bunch of limeys ). As time passes, it seems more like a documentary than a sit-com. -
I haven't forgotten about it either. The Pats* are well on their way to drubbing us like the Dolphins did in the '70s (minus the 2003 opener fluke). The fact that some people here don't care or still don't see them as our biggest rivals boggles my mind. 55-10. If I were in Jauron's shoes, whenever we play them, I'd be screaming, I WANT SOME BUTT! I WANNA SEE SNOT BUBBLES COMING OUTTA THEIR NOSES. I WANNA SEE THEIR QUARTERBACK LIMPING. I WANNA SEE THAT PUNK WILFORK GET A TASTE OF HIS OWN DAMN MEDICINE! I DON'T CARE IF YOU NEED TO TAKE A PENALTY OR TWO WHEN THEY'RE DEEP IN THEIR HALF. SCREW FINESSE! MAKE THEM HURT!! All we ever get, tho, is "Ho hum."

Needed? Probably not. Might be wise for the Dems to keep Lieberman in the fold, tho. I hear that Reid basically wants/ed to strip him of chairmanships (Homeland Security and Environment). Well... if that's what they want to do there's no stopping them. I think, however, the country would be better served by putting someone at the head of the table who has experience and knowledge. Electioneering and the pettiness should be over; actual governance is what's important in the coming years. Good to see that Obama is actually sending this message, publicly at least.

Yeah, no sh--. Thing is, by the logic, the Arabs might respect Hillary more, seeing as she has a penis.

Tactically, getting Daschle and Richardson into the Obama admin would be wiser than giving up known-quantity seats in the Senate. Kerry and Clinton would be replaced by people of lesser stature/clout. Then again, for Kerry, who's just starting to enter into the twilight of a long political career might be happy to serve 4 years (or 8) in hands-on govt work (a different animal than being a pontificate in the senate), then kick back a little, and in the meantime, give someone else a chance to establish a brand in Mass. But with Daschle and Richardson, there'd be no abdication of a national seat in order to take a spot in the WW or the cabinet. Agree that Richardson would be a wise Sec of State choice for reasons of experience, knowledge and the respect he'd bring, even if he is a bit of a hokey bumbler. I've heard that Daschle is most likely to head HHS. Are there any whispers on the national security post? Kind of an important one....

veterans! what was the most important thing
UConn James replied to loyal2dagame's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Speaking for two uncles (one who was in graves registration --- an MOS with an extraordinarily high post-war suicide rate) and several other Vietnam-era vets I've worked for/with, and a brother who did a stint in Bosnia and 3 tours in the GWOT --- the most important thing they took from their service was PTSD.
