I want to spin this off from the Josh is lazy thread, and really debate this at face value. Let’s look at other QBs and their “work ethic” “talent abilities” and compare them to get a better idea of why. Let’s start with Tom Brady.

Everyone here knows that Tom Brady is one of the least athletic QBs and yet he always had solid statistics and always knew where to place the ball.

Everyone here knows that Josh Allen is one of the most athletic QBs.

Josh has admitted he isn’t big into game film. But the more you dig into what it takes to be great, the more concerning that seems to be. How is it that Tom Brady can win so many super bowls with lower tier athleticism and arm strength and yet Josh Allen with his superior skill set has been unable to win even 1 Super Bowl?

Tom Brady never really had a true #1 WR for an extended period of time outside of Moss, and yet he still always managed to keep the chains moving and put up points enough to win games.

Josh Allen has had a true #1 WR for an extended period of time Diggs, and yet still unable to get over the hump.

So I think questions around Allen’s “laziness” is warranted. Why should an elite talented QB be struggling more than a non elite talented QB?

The only real difference is football IQ and studying the game to the point were you can attack and become a master despite not having elite traits.

Maybe I’m wrong in this thinking, and others can chime in. But things do seem to not add up.

Because Sean McDermott isn’t a great coach.

Please talk me off the ledge.

I could see this season with the Bills going 2-2 in their first four games.

The Jets will go into their home opener sky high.

We should be able to handle the Raiders and Commanders.

The Dolphins game could go either way.  At least the game is in OP.

I just think that our team is weaker than last year.

I could realistically see the Bills missing the playoffs this year.

With all the pundants saying the Bills window is closing, I am starting to think that Josh may never get us to the Lombardi trophy.

    Who’s our HC?

Should tell you all you wanna know in setting expectations this season.

    10-7 max

Is anyone else thinking this team was grossly mismanaged by beane ?

The double down on Spencer brown with no depth or drafting (shell signing and retiring is a joke)

just saying yea Dion dawkins is the starter - giving no competition to that fat slug. The wing eating contest at practice thing during playoffs or end of season was a wtf moment. Go back and watch cincy playoff game. Dawkins was worse than spencer

everyone and their mother would have let an aging / battle injured safety just go in FA. But instead we sign him back. Poyer starts getting beat w speed more and more. Every kc game , and Mia game it’s glaring

everyone and their mother would not have extended Ed Oliver . My god he’s a liability on most plays.

The elam first round pick! Enough said. can’t get on the field

the investments both high draft picks and FA signings to the DL with poor return

    HA! Beane to blame huh?

    HELLO!??

Ive been pounding the table for over 2 years about McClappy. MCLAP IS THE CEO. BEANE IS LEGIT A PUPPET OF HIS.

Wake up folks. We are not going to WIN A TITLE WITH MCLAP! Period. The man is an average coach at best who’s wasting a generational talent at the main position.

I’ll continue to chirp this until he’s fired or proves me wrong (highly unlikely.)

There are some National talking heads that have the Bills on the decline...mainly due to other teams rising up in the AFC and Buffalo's tough schedule.  For whatever reason, while still respected, the Bills are not a sexy pick this season to do much of anything.

Does the fanbase feel they have a better chance at playing in the Super Bowl?  or not making the playoffs?

I know most of us here are homers... and personally I'd be more surprised if they miss the playoffs.  The O looks to be really solid, the D is a question for me and how effectively McDermott tweaks it.

    Missing playoffs.

I never ever understood the hate for Tyrod Taylor. He was a dynamic athlete that defenses had to properly game plan against and played a big role in breaking the 17 year drought. I think he is one of the better dual threats of all time and it’s cool seeing the contrast between TT and Allen as runners. Why is he not a bigger part of Bills’ lore? He got done what a **** load of previous QBs couldn’t. It’s not like Losman, Bledsoe, or Fitz didn’t have good defenses too. So I really don’t wanna hear how the defense alone propelled us there. It was also Tyrod’s legs and low turnover rate + big play ability as well.

Without reading every post in this long thread, I’ll sum it up for you:

He was a RB trying to play QB. This is a passing league.

Not my opinion (really), but back in the day on the defunct BBMB, someone claimed Losman, Evans, and McGahee were the new Kelly, Reed, and Thomas. Even then, most people there didn't go for that one, but it shows you how hopeful people were.

[And I am staying off that toxic thread here that's been going on here for a few days. More fun just sitting back reading it with my popcorn. One poster there needs to stop responding to everyone.]

I was on the old BBMB. Avid poster.

3 things I remember the most:

    1. The push for Bill Cowher that led to Chan Gailey after we fired Dick Jauron. The night we hired Chan, it was like I felt the entire disappointment and sheer anger through the computer screen. An absolute miserable time as a fan when Nix and Gailey were the top guys here. Legit dinosaurs those 2 were.

    2. The Bryant Johnson FA signing. We all convinced ourselves he was the new Jerry Rice and we had to do whatever it took to get him to Buffalo. Days and weeks went by with rumors of his signing only to have vanished like a fart in the wind. When confirmed he wasn’t coming here, the board had a meltdown and server crashed.

    3. The poster BeastoftheEast. Guy was a prophet over there. Any and everything he posted was treated as gospel. A true legend.

  7. Doesn't matter how long it takes McClappy, assuming if he ever does make it.

My fear is we are wasting Allen during is prime years with McClap as HC. Odds are we won't ever have a QB as talented as Josh in my lifetime and with the NFL being all about the QB, time is ticking having mediocre McDermott strolling the sidelines.

But hey? We should all be so GRATEFUL that we broke the drought due to...uhhh..McDermott (not Andy Dalton miracle.) So let's just give him a lifetime contract while we are at it!!!!!

He's going to be our Marvin Lewis. Book it.

We all have our opinions about WGR of their analysis which is excellent to some of the hosts bordering on being circus clowns but how the Bills own station has Miami ahead of Buffalo is beyond me.

Schoop and his puppet, I mean puppy, Bulldog are clowns.

I’m bearish on the Bills this year, but think the Jets win the East, not the dolphins and that bum Tua.

Only thing schoop wants to talk about is fantasy football and betting. Guy doesn’t even like the bills.

Perhaps. Not trying to be a hero or a villain.

Just a regular guy passionate about the Bills. Just expressing my feelings honestly perhaps not wisely.

We seem to be on the same page with regards to McD.

All I want is that SB win. That's one common theme that's safe to say we all agree upon.

    Same here.

Haven’t missed watching a game in over 25+ years. Love all my fellow Bills fan, even tho we might disagree.

I’m just very vocal and passionate on here about wanting McDermott gone because I know how short our window is. NFL is all about the QB and we have, imo, the second best one in the league. This team and him are being held back by our defensive minded HC and I’ll go to my grave saying it until he brings us a Lombardi home.

I’ll never forgive Sean McDermott for 13 seconds. Ever. That shouldn’t have happened. That was a firable offense and it pisses me off more we didn’t promote Daboll.

Probably because you think your opinion is facts.

You love Sean. We get it.

I don’t like the guy. Think he’s as “meh” as they come, and feel like any coach in the league could do what he’s done with Josh Allen at QB.

I’m right so far by saying he’s tapped out here and won’t lead us to the Lombardi. Does that change this year? Does ever do it here? My bet is no.

    And another follow-up

Are you willing to take a few steps back while the new coaches learn on the job and the players learn the new systems?

This isn't like the NBA.  At all.

    Steps back? Learn on job?

    Holy smokes people wake up.

Vikes fired Mike Zimmer who btw is twice the coach of McDermott, and had best record in league at one point with KIRK COUSINS!

My gosh Josh Allen is good for 10+ wins alone. Add in a brilliant offensive mind at the helm building AROUND JOSH and we could be KC 2.0.

    Wake the heck up folks!

He’s the only reason I would’ve been ok with firing McDermott after last season.  I don’t think McD deserved to get fired and I think he’s a good coach.  I just think Johnson might just the perfect fit for Josh allen.

How can you talk winning multiple championships when McD and Beane haven't even sniffed a SB appearance during their Bills tenure.

That seems beyond optimistic to me.

Cam and me will lead the charge to get McClap out of here folks.

Right now, brother Cam and me are the villains on this board.

We’ll be heroes and get the key to the city like TO once we get an offensive replacement HC in here to win multiple Lombardi’s with out star QB.

    Take it to the bank.

I’ve had some time in the last couple weeks… To review Sean McDermott the defensive coordinator

Since he will be the guy most responsible for our success this season,.. As the head man and defensive shot caller

I’ve seen a lot of snaps from McDermott from Philadelphia through Carolina and even watching how the defense has morphed in Buffalo

I would not call him a schematic guru… but he learned from Jim Johnson … one of the best schematic blitzers

Many of Seans principles that he learned from Johnson have become Staples in the game… Such as loading up the box in a duel a gap pressure… Vintage Johnson McDermott.. or feigning pressure

Sean does rely on the talent of his front four… But as 4 doesn’t get home for a quarter and a half… He’s willing to bring five… And if five doesnt hit… 6

He will not let you sit back for 60 minutes and pick you apart while being comfortable…

He hides combination coverages… And prefers press man on third downs… He also gets the most out of every player he has over 15 years

nothing he does is super exotic.., but it serves a purpose… he will give you a look 4 times… and pull out and go coverage 4 straight … but the 5th… he brings 6 and you can’t block it

his situational awareness stands out defensively… being complacent is a death sentence … he hides everything as good as anybody and don’t be surprised to see a lot more safety blitzes sprinkled in

im 💯 confident with Sean and I’m excited to see our new look defense with new faces

I’m just happy that if the defense continues to give up 30+ in playoff games, nobody can blame Leslie Frazier anymore.

No more guessing of who does what with this organization…this is all Czar McDermott. Hero or zero.

I know what I’ve got my money on.

I saw some stuff on how Jerry Krause basically decided after the 89 season Doug just wasn’t going to be the guy and he needed a new mentality to take down the Pistons. Insert one Phill Jackson who brought on Tex Winter to install the triangle and the rest is history.

If we are to look at the Bills through the micro-chasm that we have equal talent to the Chiefs and Bengals and player for player we kinda do. It’s obvious the blame lies with the staff for not putting the guys in the best position. There’s only so many position coaches and coordinators who can leave before we look at the coach himself.

Sean is damn good football coach but is he a closer that remains to be determined as so far the results are kinda murky.

I’d cry tears of joy if we fired McDermott today. Anybody thinking this clown is leading us to a Lombardi is delusional. Not to mention he’s holding Josh back. Allen is the reason McDermott has won.

The right offensive HC at the helm could lead us to multiple super bowls with Allen. We are truly wasting the best QB to ever put on a Bills uniform.

    Sad!

I was watching some old stuff on the NBA and it kinda hit me the parallels the Bills have to the pre Phill Jackson Bulls.
Doug Collins their coach took over a franchise that was in disarray even after drafting one Michael Jordan two years earlier.
They became a consistent playoff team under Doug but couldn’t get over the hump til management decided Doug just wasn’t the guy and brought in Phill.
Seems like the National Media is starting to ask if you have this all world QB why haven’t you gotten farther and now it appears after today the National Media is starting to kinda zero in on Sean as the scapegoat in the Steff Diggs stuff.
I like Sean alot and remember the debacle he took over from Rex but have we reached the point where if they don’t win it this year do Terry and Brandon say it’s time to go in a different direction?

Thanks a lot for stealing my thunder.

Been saying and using this analogy since the end of the KC game in January 2022.

    Simple question:

who would you want as the Bills HC in an hypothetically SB game ?

Who do you think it would be the best one in that game ?

The choice has to be between coaches still in action, retired ones doesn’t count.

    Some here will say McDermott.

That’s how much he’s loved for breaking the “drought” even tho it was Andy Dalton.

    Then, Josh Allen arrived.

    Would be amazing…
