I worked it out after. If we beat Devner and the Jets and they lose Thursday night to Houston (or in fact any of their remaining AFC games) there is no way that in a two team tiebreaker the Colts could hold an advantage over us. The Bills with those two wins would be at worst 7-5 in conference. With one more AFC loss that is the best the Colts could finish and then you are onto common opponents where we have them beat. The bigger risks for me at the moment are either the Colts and Raiders both winning 10 and us only getting to 9 (possible I think) or a 3 way tiebreaker between the Bills, Raiders and Colts. In a 3 way tiebreaker it is win % in common games. So the only common opponents that all 3 have played are Tennessee and Denver. Currently in those games:
Bills are 1-0 with 1 to play (vs Denver)
Colts are 2-0 with 1 to play (vs Tennessee)
Raiders are 1-0 with 2 to play (vs Denver and @ Tennessee)
If that tiebreaker is equal then it goes to conference record (so other way round compared to a two team tiebreak) and at the moment the Bills are 5-2, the Colts are 5-4, the Raiders are 4-2. In that scenario we need one of the other two to finish with only 6 AFC wins. There is no way for the Raiders to get to 9-7 without getting to at least 7 AFC wins because their NFC slate is done. So realistically we need the Colts to lose two in the conference. After that it goes to strength of victory and then strength of schedule and if our only two remaining wins are Denver and the Jets that basically is us done.
You might be thinking "ah but the Colts could win and go on to win the division leaving Houston in the wildcard race." And that is true, they could. But that is not great for us either the Texans are 4-2 in conference as well. So it is highly preferable for the Bills that it is Indy who end up in the wildcard race because they already have FOUR AFC losses on their record (Chargers, Raiders, Steelers, Dolphins). One more is probably curtains for them so long as the Bills don't blow it against Denver or the Jets.
Conclusion? It is really important the Texans beat the Colts tomorrow night if we are in a tiebreaker situation. If they don't then I think we need 10 wins to have any level of comfort.
It's too early to discuss this!

Welp. This is a take.
I guess it was a bad joke. It just seems that there is always one or two people who blame the victim and then extrapolate the event into a broader social issue in the U.S. e.g. media, soft liberals, pc culture, etc.

Let's not convict him yet. She may have provoked him. The media loves to sensationalize abuse of women by men because of its agenda. People are too soft these days.
And if this was your reaction, well...I don't know what to say.

Sounds like an old-time coach who doesn't know how to interact/connect with "modern" young players.
Modern young coaches, too. All these modern people!

so the crusade is justifiable because he was right about ej and taylor?
even I knew ej and taylor were flops. I can't say the same about JA because in his short tenure he has shown more reason to believe he may not be the same flop.
but I guess as a crusader you just throw ***** around and hope it sticks?
If Allen plays well, the crusade will end.

Should there not be someone here waiting in the wings should he not show it?
Are you saying he doesn't look as good as big Ben or rivers in their first two seasons?
I agree in regards mariota/ tannehill etc
Let's say their first 20 starts. Allen doesn't look as good as Big Ben or Rivers.
Yes. There should be someone.
I imagine if Allen doesn't improve in year three, they'll draft someone before year four. But may still play Allen in year four.

Roethlisberger's 3rd was his worst year of his career completing less than 60% of his passes and throwing 18 TD's to 23 INT's. Year 5 he was less than 60% as well with 17 TD's to 15 INT's. Rivers sat for 2 years behind Drew Brees before he even got his shot.
Sure. Okay.

Ten coins on Allen for one more full season (2020). If he still is average at best, find someone else (not an easy find). He really looks like Tannehill or Mariota or one of those very average guys who can win with a lot of help. But he doesn't look like Big Ben or Rivers did in first two seasons. A third season will confirm if he's going to be any better than frighteningly average.

Such a frustrating game, with the Bills blowing this one, where does the 10th win come? Assuming we beat the Dolphins, Broncos, Jets. Do they even get 10?
Unfortunately, I am starting to feel that 9 wins is not going to capture a playoff spot with Pitt and Oakland doing their thing.
-
I think that we can admit the process will not amount to much at the end of the season if we finish 8-8 or worse. Maybe even 9-7. But I think we will definitely get one more year of the process.

I will bet you 10,000$ right now, that the Bills are not finishing 1-6 or worse.
10,000. Cash.
Sure! Why not!

Not going to complain (in this topic anyway) about all the specifics that were so wrong with this game but the short of it is that today really highlighted all of our shortcomings in 1 game and resulted in us losing against a bad football team. Sure, the Browns added talent but they showed exactly why they don't win today very clearly and we basically out-Browns'd them anyway.
So, to put in context how important this loss was to us:
@Miami - Almost beat us at home recently and plays much better with Fitz at QB. We'll probably win but could easily lose.
vBroncos - 50/50 at best...odds are the Broncos beat us. They're at least good enough to beat the Browns.
@Cowboys - Obvious loss
vRavens - Obvious loss
@Steelers - 50/50 at best, not a game we are likely to win on the road.
@NE - Obvious loss
v.Jets - Again, we could easily lose. Probably win though.
Bottom line is we're looking at a 9-7 records assuming we take care of business against Jets, Miami, and spit with Broncos/Steelers. We have to do that AND either sweep the Steelers/Broncos match-ups or beat one of the vastly superior teams (Ravens, Pats, Cowboys) to get to 10.
Today was a terrible loss. 6-3 for now but the cakewalk schedule is about to heat up.
I agree about the next few games. I think we land somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. 6-10 would not surprise me, 10-6 would be a shock.

Dude. You need to familiarize yourself with SD. When was the last time you were here, 1980?
I work all over the city six days a week.
Perhaps I stereotyped the population a bit. But there are entire cities like Escondido, Poway, Del Mar, San Ysidro, El Cajon etc. where 9 out of 10 people do not care about the NFL.
You must be talking about the huge NFL fan presence in Santee and Rancho Bernardo. Haha!

There are still chargers fans in SD? I thought they all disowned them because of Spanos
Most of the city doesn't care. People immediately south and east of the 8 are yuppies and hipsters. Go more east and south and people like soccer. Go north of the 8 a few miles and people are multicultural rich folk who barely know what the NFL is. By the beaches from La Jolla north are more rich folk who love money, cars, plastic surgery and clothes, but not the NFL. There are microscopic pockets of people who live near Qualcomm who may still like the Chargers. This place is too superficial even for the NFL! But the weather is great.
