They were in a tough spot. Either commit to SD, and play in a dump... or move right then and there and eventually get to make more money.

Til 2020 though... oof. Leasing a soccer stadium? 27000 Seats? Yikes. Only prayer that they have right now is that they're very likely to be much better than the rams. Gives them a shot to poach some fans.

Also - its a 2 hour drive from SD, so i think as much as those fans are POed, a lot will still go to the games.

When i lived in rochester i still went to games, and i know season ticket holders who live there too.

Rochester to Buffalo is always a two hour drive. San Diego to L.A. could be three to four hours much of the time. One or two fender benders on the 5, 10, 15, 105, 110, 405, 605, 805, etc. with 10,000,000 people in the region always slows that drive down. I have tickets for the Bills vs. Chargers game and I rented a hotel for Sat. night because of the traffic. As of now, 2:48pm Pac Time it's 3:05 one way and 2:53 back. And rush hour hasn't totally kicked in. Granted games are on Sunday, so who knows! But it's not Roch to Buff.

You are welcome to do so. 17 years of no playoffs and the same mistakes over and over and I no longer blindly believe. The real games will start soon and if they make the playoffs you can throw all my skepticism back in my face.

To be more accurate, skepticism is the wrong word. The correct word is pessimism.

  3. This should be worst sports teams, not cities. Buffalo is a great sports city! San Diego is not as bad as it's made out to be. The older generations really wanted the Chargers to stay. The younger generations are more concerned with politics and economics and for fun will surf, dirt bike, hike, and so on.

Interestingly, Buffalo is a terrible place to live while San Diego is absolutely incredible. I think this correlates to the dedication to the local sports teams.

  4. If our defense can improved just a little bit we have a decent chance to sneak into the playoffs.

There are several teams on the schedule we can beat even with only a slightly improved defensive performance because these teams either have suspect offenses (SO) or were basically not that good overall (NTG) last season:

Jets Twice (SO/NTG) Obviously not a very good team.

Bengals (SO/NTG) Beat them last year. Can do it again.

Chargers (NTG) Very inconsistent. Susceptible to turnovers and mistakes.

Chiefs (SO) Smith can be stopped. Not a high flying offense.

Colts (SO/NTG) Poor defense. Generally suspect coaching. Almost a one player team.

    Broncos (SO) Poor offense.

Dolphins Twice (SO) Slow down the run.

Panthers (NTG) Last season was bad compared to two seasons ago. Just slow down Cam.

Then, the other teams we face have really great offenses where our defense needs to play much better.

    Patriots

    Falcons

    Raiders

    Buccaneers

    Saints

We can reasonably win 8 games from the first list with just a little bit better defensive performance. With a much better defensive performance, maybe we can win two games from the bottom list.

A couple teams are in the middle and perhaps there should be a middle list. Carolina can be great at times. The Chiefs are usually a really great team and hard to beat. Rivers and Luck can have huge games. The Saints, Bucs, Falcons, and Raiders defenses can be terrible. Regardless, the key is for us to maintain our offensive scoring from last year and just get some sort of improvement on defense. I suppose it's possible with our defensive draft picks over the past two years. If Lawson, Ragland, and White play great and Darby returns to form, who knows? We still have Hughes, Dareus, and Williams!

Its a play that the NFL is "trying" to get rid of, there is nothing "normal" about it, its an illegal hit, he was penalized for it in-game and fined for it post-game.

ARTICLE 7. PLAYERS IN A DEFENSELESS POSTURE

    b. Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:

    1. forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him. 3. illegally launching into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (i) leaves both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (ii) uses any part of his helmet to initiate forcible contact against any part of his opponent’s body. (This does not apply to contact against a runner, unless the runner is still considered to be a defenseless player, as defined in Article 7.)

Its in the NFL rule book: http://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/2016-nfl-rulebook/#article-7.-players-in-a-defenseless-posture

This (https://youtu.be/M18Oun-TXfA) hit is the definition of illegal crack back and illegal football play.

Landry knew it as he went to make the hit and after he saw the results of the hit, think he didnt want H20 afterward because he wasn't thirsty?

p.s. I hope for Williams's sake he takes his money and current health and finds a new career.

    Thank you P51.

The NFL is still fun to watch without this kind of violence. We all realize violence is part of the game, but it can be limited with specific regulations.

Some may rather watch more extreme violence in football while others may prefer a less violent form.

It seems advantageous for us to side on the less violent type of football for legal reasons (recent lawsuits, etc.) and, more importantly, for player safety. Again, we all know the arguments for the violence, but all that is suggested is a form of football that is less violent by rule, and also by players being aware enough to make a wiser decision in the heat of the moment. Obviously, the game moves fast and players cannot think deeply about each action and its consequence. Therefore, rules are necessary, but so is player awareness. We see players hold up on hits or avoid contact and perhaps that type of football is better for bigger reasons (health being one).

I think the major rift is between those who view ultra violent hits as "just part of the game" or "@*$k the players, they get paid and signed up for it," and those who are a bit more concerned about health and sportsmanship.

Landry's hit was ultra violent and extreme. Whether it was necessary or not, whether it was legal or not has no relationship to the brute violence of the hit. Some prefer to watch without witnessing this sort of violence. Others range from unconcerned to agreement with this sort of violence. I suppose this is what we bring to the game as individuals. I would surmise that those who rather a safer game with lighter violence are different types of people than those who support a more violent game.

I love watching football, but the Landry hit and others like it kind of bother me. I can think of the hit on the Bengals punter and so on, and I think "why did he do that?" These types of hits are fairly rare. Maybe one a weekend, sometimes none, sometimes a couple. But certainly not the norm.

I fully realize that I am not forced to watch this sport. I know this. But if regulations can be in place that greatly limit this type of violence, I agree with them. Personally, I do care about the health of the players from local children's leagues to high school to pro.

Regardless of legality, the teams involved, etc. this hit by Landry is bothersome. It is hard to shrug off so easily as many can. Of course, I am alluding to a bigger discussion about human violence and tolerance for violence and so on. But I'll save that for a different context.

  6. Judging by how many replies saying the Chargers game & a 30,000 seat stadium it may well be a tough ticket. It scared me enough to buy 3 seats on Stubhub for $158-159 each. I'll be in section 125 row X. I'm staying in Santa Ana close to John Wayne airport & where my friends live so they can pick me up & take me to the game. I'm going to California for Thanksgiving & this game worked out perfectly-start in So. Cal, visit friends then head up to the Bay area for Thanksgiving. I'll probably catch the Raiders/Denver game on the 26th unless my family is boycotting the Raiders. If that's the case the 49ers are also home against the Seahawks, but it's a lot further away than the Raiders.

That's Cool! I hope a lot of Bills fans are at the game. I got nervous about getting tickets too. That's why I went ahead and bought them now. About a week before the game we should post a tail gate meetup or something or other for Bills fans. Should be fun and very winnable.

  7. I would rather not a QB, but would not mind it if they went there. Same thing with Howard or Davis / Williams. I'd prefer defense and the no matter what pick at 10 are Adams, Hooker, Peppers, or Baker. Adams probably won't drop to 10. Hooker had some surgeries. Peppers failed the drug test. Baker may not be good enough to pick at 10. So, I am just confused. But we need a safety. I guess Davis or Howard on offense.

  8. He barely played last year. He didn't look that great, but maybe he'll do better this year. Maybe he won't. Maybe he'll barely see the field again. Or maybe he has a break out season like MG. It's possible that he'll average 5 or more a carry. Perhaps he'll average less than 3. He could never fumble or fumble a lot. He might reinjure his foot. He may pull a hammy. Could stay healthy and contribute. Maybe he gets cut because of a poor training camp and preseason. He might get suspended and he might get in trouble again. He could contribute on special teams or on certain gadget plays like a double reverse...

  9.

maybe the Fish and Pats won't care for the last weeks and the Bills get 9 wins?

Yes, the class system kind of guarantees that the higher your income the better the education and opportunities a child gets.

And when some demographics lose they whine and point fingers and blame everyone but themselves. Mine accepts the blame when it loses and looks for ways to improve the next time around and the rest of my life.

    Jeez. Now that's some politikin'

  10.

Yeah I dunno guys, I've been giving OldSchool's post a lot of thought and I think he's on to something. Let's just hope other teams don't catch on to this or someone may draft a QB before us.

True enough. I spent 4 hours meditating to prepare to begin to start processing Oldschool's post. To no avail. I realized that I cannot cope with this mental task. Unfortunately, now I am profoundly aware and disturbed by my own inadequacies. I know I cannot approach his discourse constructively; however, I did learn a lot about myself. Thank you Oldschool . . . thank you.
