You have a QB that's a Maserati. He's built for bombs away. But instead of building your offense for that, you build it for plodding, 10 yards at a time max, 10 minute drive offense. So I ask, what is the point?
What's the point of having a guy who's designed by nature to bomb the football deep and whose weakness is dink and dunk stuck in an offensive scheme that is built to do just that?
Why not offload him for someone who's better suited for that kind of thing if you refuse to play to his strengths? That's what I can't wrap my head around. It makes no sense.
McD does this to protect his D. Remember the Bengals game last year when they come out in the no huddle and the easily walked down the field? After McDs D gave up its second TD he slowed the offense down so it wouldn’t become a shootout.
All about protecting his D.

Davis was the 3rd or 4th WR after being drafted in 2020. He was developing into WR2 very nicely.
Slot WR was the position most in need of young talent. Beasley turned 31 in 2020. We had nothing behind him. Rondale Moore and Elijah Moore were the hot names in the 2021 draft. Both would’ve been excellent prospects to replace Beasley. They took Rousseau. They probably made the right pick there.
Before the 2022 season we felt very good about Diggs and Davis as WR1 and WR2 for now and the future. They needed a slot WR now with Beasley finished. They weren’t prepared to replace Beasley. There really wasn’t an opportunity to draft a slot WR early that year. Skyy Moore was talked about a lot in the 2nd. They could’ve traded up in the 2nd for Moore. Instead they doubled down on edge. They did however draft Shakir that year, but they didn’t play him much. They went with McKenzie after Crowder went down.
In 2022 Davis failed to take a leap forward after his historic playoff game vs KC. His ankle injury definitely covered up his failure. Gave him an excuse. Bills were not aggressive enough to replace him or bring in competition. Instead, in the 2023 draft they took a TE to play in the slot. Still trying to find a slot WR, even though Shakir was here. They liked Shakir, but didn’t trust him yet. McKenzie was popular, maybe that was the reason he played over Shakir.
I think they wanted WR Addison but thought he might fall to them. I’m not sure if they saw Addison as a slot or an outside WR though. I don’t think they saw him as a Davis replacement. He was more like Diggs or a slot WR.
What I’m saying is I don’t think there was a real opportunity to draft a Davis replacement in the 1st or 2nd without a massive trade up.
They could’ve drafted a developmental guy in the middle rounds, but that probably doesn’t satisfy what people wanted.
2022 free agency was a possibility to add a legit WR. They gave Von $120 million. They definitely could’ve dipped into free agency to replace Davis but at that point he was coming off his historic playoff game. They likely would’ve signed Christian Kirk for the slot if they added a WR.
2023 was probably the best chance to replace Davis with a free agent WR. Hopkins was the opportunity. They didn’t do it for whatever reason.
I dont think Davis was a failed WR2. He did produce some decent numbers. I think the biggest failure at WR up until this year was how they handled slot WR.
In 2024 they need someone to step up at both outside spots and slot. We’ll see what happens.
Shakir is in the exact same situation as Davis was 2 years. The only difference in this situation is we don’t have a legit #1 WR like we did two years ago. If this doesn’t work out it’s gonna be worse than the past 2 years. The draft was heavy at WR and they took one. If Coleman has a slow transition this team is *****.
Terrible management
Davis was a failed #2. He was super inconsistent despite having a few big games.

Not even close. Beane gambling on Shakir handling a heavier workload like he did with McKenzie and Davis. 😩
Then adds one WR in one of the best WR classes in years. 🤦
You can’t teach stupid. Can’t wait until him and McD are fired
-
I think right now #1 is off the table. Let’s hope Shakir can step up and handle a bigger workload. Beane is an idiot. He put the same faith in McKenzie and Gabe, both were disappointments. He even doubled down on Gabe last year blaming his ankle injury the year before. Total neglect of the WR position at this point. ***** brutal.

"I had 10 picks---how was I supposed to focus on WR??"
Been an issue for 2 years now and we have a deep WR draft with lots of picks and he rolls the dice on a WR once. Brutal
Putting a lot of faith in Shakir to take a step forward. He done that with McKenzie and Gabe Davis (twice). Let’s cross our fingers this one works. I like the Samuel pickup but still worry it doesn’t workout. Then you have rookie (just one of them) you’re also putting a lot of faith in. Not sure what to expect at this point, glad we got Kincaid though.

Too many chiefs not enough Indians. That’s what I say when see framing crews and everyone carrying and looking at plans.
You don’t need leaders at every ***** position. -
Coleman looks like Gabe Davis with better hands. Question will be if he has games where he’s not even targeted in Brady’s offense.

Yeah Ed Oliver sucks and so does James Cook apparently even tho he was 4th in the NFL in rushing and 6th in the NFL in yards from scrimmage.
Do you even bother paying attention to what you write or just post whatever?
You understand I’m talking about D only?

There was that one guy in 2018 (after Tre). What was his name? Allen something??
Talking about defensive picks

Have any lived up to expectations? We hit on some late rounders but it seems to a disappointing part of our draft. Hard to buy into any hype at this point. Hard to get excited about these picks. The last guy day 1-2 pick that was everything we wanted out of him was Tre. Seems so long ago and that was Whaleys scouting staff

McDs only first and second day defensive pick that turned out to be everything you wanted of him was Tre White. That was a McD/Whaley draft though.

Let me guess "I dont know his name, he sucks just like Bernard, Taron, Shakir, Milano, and all suck and were the wrong picks of people I didn't know"
Everyone throwing a tantrum over the guy every team in the NFL has passed on 3 times now in Franklin. And its only the Bills though making the mistake of not taking future HOF WR Troy Franklin lol
Everyone sick of wasting first and second day picks on McDs D and not getting much production in return. Seems they are better picking D players late and O players early. 🤷🏼♂️
Oh well, the faster McD is gone, the faster this team has a real shot at winning a Super Bowl.

Rousseau, Oliver, Milano, Bernard, Taron Johnson and Benford might disagree with you. Dane Jackson would too if we had kept him.
Rousseau has not been anything special. Alright but disappears at times. Ed took 3 years to get consistent but was still a ghost in our last 2 playoff losses. A time we needed him to step up. You also have Boohie that got traded and AJ who finally started helping in year 4. How’s Elam doing anyway. These are all first and second day picks that either didn’t pan out or took a few years to get the most out of them.
I don’t care about day 3 picks, most of them are a crapshoot anyway. We got a few good ones, doesn’t change the fact they continue to invest high picks in McDs D and don’t get much production out of them.- 1

Andre Reed was a 4th, Stefon Diggs was a 5th, Stevie Johnson was a 7th.
That’s nice but this staff has drafted a number of underwhelming defensive players that struggle to see the field. People are getting sick of it. Best case scenario this guy gets into the rotation. Most likely scenario he is in and out of the lineup and starts to be helpful 3 years down the road. Worst scenario he gets the Boogie treatment

All I hear is how Lamar needs WRs, is this Franklin

***** Beane, go get Franklin

I’ll be really pissed if the Dolphins end up with Franklin. Another guy who’d burn everybody on crossing routes

No thanks on another high priced WR. Jefferson would be the only one I’d consider and it would cost too much to get him

Safety has been a vital part of McDs defense. So while we do have 2 guys who could start, they are making anyone shake in their boots either and are a downgrade to what we had for the past 6 years. Our safety play has not been top notch for two years now. To be honest, last year when Poyer was out the D looked better with Rapp in. It’s not hindering our D. Yeah we had great play out of Poyer and Hyde for a long time but it still led to 13 seconds when the game was on the line. Still blew it in OT against Houston. It should not be #1 priority with the huge hole we have at WR.

Are people hating on Cooper DeJean because they don’t want a defensive player? Even if he is clearly the best available in a pretty thin safety class?
Don’t we have two safeties with starting experience on the roster? Its not a difficult position to find capable players. Jmo. Bills need is at WR and if they keep moving back at some point they will regret it. Can’t keep neglecting this position

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question? What does “rated” mean (or have to do with anything)? He is a 4.21 guy that was projected as a 1st round pick long before the combine (years even). He was a 3 time all big 12 selection in his 3 seasons. He’s twitchy and obviously has big play ability. He’s a big version of Hollywood Brown (who is now also on the Chiefs). That speed, with Andy Reid, is a nightmare.
He jumped up the draft board after he ran a 4.2 instead of a 4.3 like everyone thought. That’s what I mean by rated. If he was so good he would have been projected higher before the underwear olympics.

What are you willing to pay for Sutton? 5th?
It’s not that they fooled everyone. He was a 1st round we to most that ran the fastest 40 ever. People took that as “he must play like John Ross.” Worthy was an elite WR, for multiple years, at one of the biggest programs in the country. I think that you could have let a lot of guys go to KC and been okay. This wasn’t one of them.
Why wasn’t he rated higher when everyone thought he was a 4.3 guy if he is that elite
What's the point of this team's philosophy?

With the majority of the resources going to D over the years this should not be a problem. Especially when you have a defensive minded coach.
