You've answered your own dilemma.  The wall is not a monument to the great guys on teams past.  It is a monument to the game of football.

For that reason, forget what you think of OJ; he belongs on the wall; he's already there, and should stay there.

He's still the BEST BILL of all time, bar none.  You can't just revise history and remove him from it because he's a psycho multi-murderer who got away with it.

Get him up there in the new stadium.  And deal with reality.

Can’t agree Next.  Take his name down.  If some cold case investigation finds using forensics not now known that a mobster did it, then put his name back up.  Murderers, game fixers, child molesters, and PED record breakers should not be in the hall or on a wall at all.  Their names are still in the record books and that’s nuff.

I think this is pretty spot on. The Bills need a lot of things to go just right in order to make a deep run.

The roster is solid but still lots of question marks in the trenches.

The WRs besides Diggs looks pretty average to weak.

The RB by committee looks pretty solid. Cook looks promising but he still has a lot to prove.

Of course injuries will play a role as it does with any team.

The coaching staff has to be better. Dorsey is a big question mark. No guarantees he gets better this year. Can the Bills D be better in the playoffs assuming the Bills get there?

Lastly, I just have a difficult time thinking Buffalo will beat Cinci or KC if they meet again in the playoffs.

It seems that we match up against KC better than Cincy.  Cincy’s defense seems to be meaner and quicker.

Going bold alphabetically, not doing everyone because not everyone is bold

ARZ- goes 1-16 with only win against ATL

BAL- miss the playoffs despite Lamar playing all year as division attrition and WC tie breaker vs Jets haunts them

    CAR- wins division at 10-7

CHI- only go 6-11 and Fields ends up being a more glorified runner then passer and again CHI has to ask what to do at QB

    DAL- make the SB

DET- fail to win division and barely make playoffs at 9-8 (MIN wins again at 10-7)

DEN- win the AFC W at 11-6

GB- go 5-12 as the bottom falls out for real and Love is not the answer. welcome to QB purgatory

JAX- take AFC 1 seed at 13-4

LAC- implode at 6-11 and Staley is fired

LAR - bounce back to a 9-8 record and just miss wildcard

MIA- Tua plays all 17 games and they go 11-6 winning a game in the wildcard

NYG- luck smiles the opposite way as they go 7-10 and are never really close to being in the hunt at any point

NYJ- make the playoffs as the final WC spot but get bounced in first round after blowing a 20-3 lead at halftime

PHI- the NFC East finally sees a division winner repeat as the Eagles repeat but lose in the divisional round to Dallas at home

PIT- The non losing season run ends as they go 6-11 as Pickett fails to take the next step and being in a tough division wrecks havoc as they finally finish 4th

SEA- they win the NFC West and 1 seed at 12-5

SF- they make the playoffs but as a wild card as 10-7 as QB uncertainty finally catches them a little

WSH- New ownership brings in a new era... but the results on the field are worse as they go 3-14 and end up picking 2nd in the draft

This just in:  ATL makes the playoffs 🤯

    I'll add -

Drew Lock is traded to the Packers.  Jordan Love will be bad and the Packers liked Lock in that draft before Denver traded up in front of them to take him.  Lock establishes himself as the Packer starter by seasons end.

Pack signs Kapernick by week 6

Doesn't matter. Going and sitting there for 5 minutes with your teammates while the coaches address you is the only acceptable way to respond in that situation. If Stef then wanted to go get away from it and not talk to anyone from the team for 3 or 4 months that is his right. But in those initial moments after a loss he has a professional responsobility and he let himself and his team down.

What other player would be allowed to do this?  Suppose JA27 pulled this antic.  Behavior not allowed especially from a team leader.   I think there was some kind of discipline given to Diggs which is why he’s been sulking for 5 months.  Just conjecture.

No I have not been a fan for two years. I have been an avid Bills fan since 1988.

No knowledgeable person thought Josh would win MVP? You serious? He came in 2nd in 2020, and quite frankly I think he should have gotten it that year. He was very much in the race last season, till his elbow injury.

I don't understand fans of this team, who claim to be lifelong, bitching so much about a QB who has pretty much brought this organization back to life, especially after a 17 year drought. It's freaking strange to me. This team is not stacked like the 90's Super Bowl teams were. We got Allen, and we got Diggs. That is it. There are no Kent Hulls on this team, or Howard Ballards, no James Lofton type, no Thurman Thomas type RB's, certainly no Bruce Smiths. I don't get the comments about Allen over on this forum, and it's something I have noticed since the season ended.

I never said you "hated" Allen. I don't know you enough to know that. I just don't think his offseason has any bearing on how he will play. If he wants to golf and go on dates with Hailee Steinfeld, I don't think that is remotely an issue. He shows up at OTA's and all that, and aside from that, we literally have no idea what is happening behind the scenes as far as what he is doing in the off season. Just because we don't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

Just dreaming but put JA17 and Diggs on those SB teams and we win all 4.  I agree that the teams then were stacked.  If Cooks resembles Thurmond, then we gotta chance.  Go Bills 🦬

Yes, getting your soul ripped out of you 4 years in a row is BAD.

That era of Bills football was magical however, and provided plenty of fun and excitement along the way.

I do recall though, heading into the 2nd Cowboys SB, thinking that there's just no way we win at this point, for one reason or another.

    I wasn't wrong.

Those SB losses were hard to swallow.  They hit some fans a lot harder than others.

NFC was dominant those years.  Each of our opponents had some of the best O lines ever assembled.  Our team could’ve beaten many of the SB winners.  Bad timing.  With passing years, I have come to embrace that legacy.  It’s part of our story.

I can’t disagree with most of the comments on here. I think for me, the key is to take some pressure off of him with a run game. Got to be able to win multiple ways and buffalo can’t win unless Allen is the whole offense. Hopefully that changes a little this season but I won’t hold my breath

I think we need to continue to be pass first offense.  Quick passes a la Montana would be unstoppable and take pressure off JA17.  Put it in Cooks hands 15 times, but 75% passing will keep the chains moving.  Go over the top 5 times per game.  There shouldn’t be any games where we don’t put up 30 points.

I never said he was the only one that cared, but he was the only one visibly frustrated by the effort.  And there certainly seemed to be a lot of accepting the result rather than fighting to win way too early in that game.  And if you didn’t feel that watching the game then I’d like to jump to that alternate reality, because it was pitiful and painful to watch as a fan.  I’m not saying Diggs was right or wrong bc I have no idea of the true context of what happened nor do any of us, but I damn sure appreciate the passion bc it seemed to be lacking and it wasn’t like his teammates were rising to meet that passion. So Diggs showed up teammates that were accepting loss too easily - good - that is not being a good teammate, either.

Some good points that many would agree with.  There seem to be 2 camps here:  those who believed the players choked and those who believed the coaches choked.  I believe the greater responsibility falls at the feet of the coaches.  I’m sure that you’d agree that the game plan could’ve been better considering a track without traction.

I get his frustration and love his passion to win.  That performance against the Bengals was poop on a stick and the only player it looked like it bothered was Diggs.  Instead of having a killer instinct the team wilted and that isnt okay.

We're all frustrated by that bc that is not the identity of Buffalo nor the Bills we've known at their best. I get the criticism of Diggs being too public about his views, but accountability doesnt come easily when its not exposed.  It is not uncommon for an immensely talented team that doesnt have the success it should to have this happen.  The Bickering Bills.  Warren Sapp calling out teammates publicly in Tampa before they won it.

Trading Diggs would be a mistake.  Everyone holding each other more accountable top to bottom is what you want and what is necessary to get that title.  While the publicity may seem negative the result may be positive if the organization embraces it.

I appreciate the fire and determination Diggs brings and honestly I think it could be a net positive at the end of the season.  Getting rid of a guy like that is stupid and sets the organization back.

I keep hearing that Diggs was only one who cared.  I don’t buy it.  Our guys were dealt a lousy game plan.  Cards stacked against them.  Too many pass routes that don’t work on a slippery track.  Bills had no chance.  Problem was that Diggs showed his team mates up.

Went to a HBCU in Mississippi.  "I'm going to play in the NFL"  Probably someone told him,  "You're delusional"

Especially after he tore his hammy his Jr year then skipped his Sr season and declared for the draft.

Wasn't drafted - it woulda been long odds with the injury and from a small school.

Signed as an UDFA with the Bears.  "I'm going to be a starter" Probably someone told him, "You're delusional"

Became a starter.  Played in the Superbowl on what may have been one of the greatest defenses ever.  Injured during the Superbowl, couldn't come back from it.

"I'm going to be a football coach".  Probably someone told him "You're delusional".  First HC for Trinity College, built the program from the ground up.

Jumped to an assistant position in a big college program 1 year, then to the NFL.  Rest is easily discoverable.

I can't tell you if Frazier will be given the chance to become a HC in the NFL, but I can tell you for sure he's overcome pretty steep odds to his previous achievements.

I think he probably looked methodically at what he thought he needed to do to get the HC gig he wanted, and that he wasn't going to be able to do that while giving his full attention as DC of the Bills.

Personally, I wouldn't bet against him.  Wouldn't bet on him, either of course - there are only a few of those gigs up for grabs each year.

Solid guy and coach.  He schemed many good defenses against quality teams with us.  Best thing in his favor is that he is available.  Someone will get fired, and every owner would see him as an option.  Hope he gets a chance.

They won’t do a Thursday or Monday in week 18 so it’s going to be Saturday or Sunday.  How much is on the line for each team will determine whether they move to Primetime.  The Bills and now even the Fish are a draw of they are remotely close so it’s possible.  You can probably make you’re arrangements one month out and you’ll know whether it’s a scrub game or worth something.

I might go as well as I live in Tampa and been a few years since I went to a Bills/Miami game.

Let me know brother closer to the end of. O ember and maybe we can tailgate.  I always love hanging with the TBD boys before a game.

I'm going to buff to the Raiders home opener.  Should be fun.  I take the kids in September, but haven’t done it since 2019 as the last one.  My whole extended family gets tix as my sister works for the Sabres so she can do her magic on getting us tix for the family.

Machine gun, we’ll have to touch base in the fall.  Me and my 2 sons are 99% on board for week 18 in Miami.  Youngest son now lives in Miami so that game has become a tradition.

If I just get to pick, I would say Kyle Shanahan.   Depends on how you frame the question.  Seems Like Zac Thomas and Nick Siriano are off to pretty good starts.  I did not even know who either of those guys were 3 years ago.

If losing in the divisional round of the playoffs is considered success, the risk of changing coaches is quite low.  As I mentioned in my other post, as long as Josh Allen is healthy, my preseason expectations for the Bills would be a minimum of reaching the divisional round of playoffs, with any head coach currently in the NFL.  People who think somehow changing coaches risk going back to the level of futility of the EJ Manuel / Tyrod Taylor / Ryan Fitzpatrick/Kyle Orton days are just silly.

Agree that with JA17, most any coach would get Bills to playoffs.  From that standpoint, this coach won’t be considered great until he beats teams with comparable or better talent.  So far, this hasn’t happened in the playoffs.  On the other hand, as another poster asserted, he hasn’t  lost to a lesser team.  Also, as another poster suggested, the next 2 years will tell us a lot about our coach.

McDermott has had a very average level of success since Josh Allen has blossomed into one of the leagues best QBs.  As a self styled hands off the offense guy, McDermott is not likely a primary reason Allen has become this top QB.   In my opinion, there is not a single NFL head coach, who given Allen and the rest of the Bills roster, would be expected to have lesser playoff results than McDermott has had.   He is just very average in the primary measure of success most head coaches are held too.  At this point he is just as likely to be Marvin Lewis or Jeff Fisher level of success, as he is to even rise to the level of Mike Tomlin success.   I don't have a magic pocket full of championship head coaches.  But attempts to sugar coat McDermott's playoff failures fall flat with me.

I don't know what Pegula is looking for in a head coach.  If he is looking for a decent guy who doesn't embarrass him with personal problems or bad behavior in the press and who can put a competitive team on the field every season, he has his guy.    If he is looking for a guy who achieve optimal results for the brief window of time the Bills have a truly great QB, he may or may not have his guy. I don't think he needs advise to know what his goals are, and if they are being achieved or not.  My guess is that if McDermott finishes his career at the Jeff Fisher level, Mr. Pegula will be happy enough.

Agree usually with most of your takes  Other than Reid and the GOAT (I couldn’t stomach either), who do you think would do better?

  16. 17 hours ago, GunnerBill said:

If course that team would have been better with Allen. Who is disputing that? The point is it would have been worse with any head coach we have had in my fandom other than McDermott. I can't comment on Wade. Before my time. I saw the end of Greggo, Mularkey, Jauron, Chan, Marrone and Rex. None of them would have got that 2017 roster to the playoffs. I am very confident in saying that. The rosters Marrone and Mularkey got to 9 wins with were both better than the 2017 roster.

Your point, so far as I understand it, is you can't give Sean McDermott any credit for being a better coach than all the other guys we have had because he has Josh Allen. My counter is if course Josh Allen makes any Head Coach better. That is the law of the NFL. Almost every top HC you can name had a top QB. And the biggest single difference between the teams of the last 4 years 2019-2022 and the teams of the drought era is they have Josh Allen. But McDermott is also demonstrably through his 2017 performance (and frankly through gettting to 13-3 last year with everything they endured and a hurt Josh) a better Head Coach than all those that I named above. And given the same rosters I think he would outperform all of them.

Agree, but comparing to our drought years head coaches is not a high bar.  However, many of them would’ve looked better with JA17.  While coach is known for a few blunders, his leadership last year, especially with the Hamlin situation, won me over.  He’s a moral leader.  All things considered, there’s not a better NFL coach.

I have no idea but he seems more on the conservative side that it'll take at least two losing seasons to fire McDermott and Beane imo.  They've both built up enough of a successful tenure here so far to deserve that long of a leash imo.  I think that both would be fired at the same time (unlike Ryan and Whaley) if he were to ever make that move.

Another 13 seconds blunder may have him escorted from the premises.
