It's a weird one with Keon. I finally watched the latest Hard Knocks and was struck that through 4 episodes we've seen nothing of hi. I really thought he'd be the star of the show. I wonder why he hasn't been featured - is he so much about being all business that he wanted zero distractions?

Also just watched Dawkins' interview on first things first and was shocked by how he talked about Keon. "I've never seen a jump from year 1 to year 2 that I've seen with him", "the rest of the league is going to be shocked".

I watched his off season training video and did get excited about this year, hope he can deliver somewhat on what Dawkins was saying. What he lacks in speed he can make up for in strength with those contested catches, and it'd be great to see him start to be a dominant player that draws attention away fro the rest of the wideouts and allows them to make their own fair share of plays.

As to the question, I don't think superstar but do think we'll be very happy and will see him as well worth his draft position.

Was Jerry Rice fast?  No.  Did Jerry Rice separate?  Yes.  Can Keon??  I think so.

I don't know, I remember many a game where the Offense didn't even get across  the 50 yard line until midway through the 3rd quarter, and the Defense played what I called the "End Zone Defense"....... the only thing stopping the other teams Offense was the End Zone!!

Exactly.  It was the drought era because we had less than 5 players who would start on any other team, just like Sunday night.

There has already been talk of you slowing down a bit, but you remain one step ahead of the Turk!

My window could be a decade, but the off season and training camp are too tough.

Would go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history, and top 3 worst in Bills history, right up there with the Lynch trade.

Would get Beane fired. A supremely dumb move.

Two 1st is too much, but a 1st in 2016 and a 2nd in 2017 and any DL player would be okay with me.  Future draft picks will take 2-4 years to make a difference, whereas Parsons is a difference maker on the first snap. We can’t wait 2-4 years.  We need to strike while the irons hot.  We’re at a 85% chance of making SB … Parsons would make it 95%.

This deal came in exactly as expected - $12m per.

It was all about the guaranteed money, as I said earlier this offseason.

Great deal for both sides, Cook is still an ascending player.

Just wait until Gibbs and Bijan get their bag next year, this will look like a steal for us.

I am Nostradamus as I was saying this in May, 12-13.5 with 30 guaranteed.  He’s worth every nickel.  If you thought he was good last year, get your popcorn ready over the next 4.  Our chances for a Lombardi have moved from hopeful to confident.  Go Bills! 🦬

This, I agree with. It is different than calling him “essential.”

Good point.  JA17 is the key essential in the strictest sense, but Cook is essential for speed which we wouldn’t have otherwise.  I bet JA17 considers Cook essential, just like he prolly considered Diggs essential which is why he tolerated him.  JA17 and JC4 are our difference makers.  Teams that win SBs usually have speed.  Tom Brady could be cited as an exception, but he had the coach.

The Eagles were a pass interference play away from winning the 2023 Super Bowl, two years before Barkley.  It can be argued the defense was the biggest difference-maker this time around.

And technically, the Ravens went a round farther in the playoffs the season before they signed Henry.

I agree that RBs have been undervalued for most of the last decade.  But we need to be careful not to over-correct the other direction.  This is still a passing league.  By far.

Cook is a nice weapon.  But even without him, this offense is still among the NFL’s best.  And this team is still s Super Bowl contender.

Yes, we are a Super Bowl contender without him, but we’d be a stronger contender with him.  He is special and makes our offense even better.

No, I don’t agree. I think the difference between the 25th best RB and the 8th best RB is a handful of points. It’s why they aren’t paid very well (so GMs agree with me).

Saquon and King Henry were essential last year to their teams, and I think Cook helped us in the W column.  I think we’ll win more games with him, maybe even the Lombardi.  Go Bills!!

I like Cook a lot, but the Bills had a top-5 offensive line last year, and the MVP quarterback. It's hard to imagine a better situation for a RB.

Don’t you agree that he is essential to win a Lombardi

Hopefully we will never find out. because, yes. Yes it will make a difference. This is the NFL. Studs like Cook make things look easy. Ray Davis isn't the man and Ty (I love TY) but he's not that guy either.

Defenses could gameplan vs Davis/Ty easier than when we have Cook. Without a doubt.

Cook is only guy who can take it to the house at any time.  He’ll get 13.5 and 30 guaranteed, and incentives.  He gonna run like a stallion this year.  Go Bills!!

Cook was excellent in 2023 too, just without the use in the redzone. Once they started giving him the ball down there instead of always defaulting to rushing Josh, Cook showed he could be really productive. His first year less so, but he sat behind Singletary a ton, waste of time that was. I just don't think Davis has the vision of Cook (in fairness not many do) and he doesn't have the explosion either. He can be a serviceable starter in the way Singletary was for a few years but it is in that lower end, baseline starter territory IMO.

I'm with you that I'd much prefer to spend my dollars and have my explosive production at my premium positions and if that takes being a bit worse at running back to achieve that, who cares? To do that is likely going to take trading assets as well though because those explosive contributors at premium spots don't hit FA very often (if at all) and the Bills passed on the chance to swing those trades this past spring. I will say again if they don't extend Cook this summer and one of the pass catchers shows themselves to be that explosive playmaker this year then you absolutely let Cook walk and take the comp pick. But even in a world where Cook plays out his deal if you don't get explosive pass game plays from structure at a better clip than 2024 then I think you have to think very carefully before letting the explosive rusher you have in Cook leave the building.

Cook increases our chances of a SB.  He gets more expensive next year.  A deal will be in place before game 1.

I am pretty sure you also didn't watch Montana play as from my recollection you were not watching football back then and didn't become a big fan until much later.  So no disrespect, if my recollection is accurate, you can't reasonably weigh in on this having not watched Joe's entire career.  I watched both, and I can tell you 2 things:

    1. Brady is the GOAT, no other QB has a career resume that can match because he played longer and through that accomplished more than anyone.  May never even be equalled.
    2. But - It is not so clear who the best QB was on the filed in their primes on any given Sunday.

To be fair, I have the same issue at RB when IMHO Barry Sanders is the clear GOAT at RB - But I also didn't watch Jim Brown play and can't really refute when someone argues he was for example.

Basketball has a similar debate - Lebron is going to hold more records, more stats, more Finals appearances, etc than Jordan because he has played longer between coming out of High School and still playing at an elite level this late in his career nearly 40 - but doesn't mean he was a better player than Jordan.  But depending on how one views them, an argument can be made both ways.

But no disagreement, Brady has the resume to lock down GOAT title, and deserves it.  Still doesn't mean that head to head in their prime he was a better than Montana.  I am not even saying it was Montana, I am just saying it is a legitimate debate.

Head to head to head, I’d take Marino. Bills win many SBs with him.  Along with his superior skills, he wouldn’t allow foolishness.

That's right, he's playing out the season no matter what. And the Bills know it. Teams hold all the power in these situations. It's why Trey Hendrickson just relented in a situation that was much much more toxic than what we have going on with Cook. Ultimately Cincy held his rights and he was giving up $50,000 per day to skip training camp, and missing regular season games is not remotely an option for any player thinking rationally. Hassan Reddick did it and just ended up screwing himself for no reason. Teams know 99% of players are not going to really follow through on their threats to skip regular season games, so they just wait it out. That's what will happen with Cook. I don't begrudge him for trying any tactic he has to get paid, but there's only one possible outcome and the Bills know it.

The question is “Do we want him beyond this year?”  Of course we do.  His skills are perfect for this offense.  There’s nobody out there available who can do what he does.  Also, I think he’ll have his best year yet.  I predict he’ll get 13.5 million with incentives and 30 million guaranteed before game 1.

Where are the Bills with Cook and the contract situation? Are they closer to getting a deal done? He is our 2nd best player on offense. Need to get a deal done hopefully.

My guess is that a $12 million deal with $30 million guaranteed will get done by game 1.  He knows that this team is his best chance to get a SB, and the Bills know that he is the perfect RB for this offense.  If they wait a year, his price goes up.

It's a sleek look for sure. As far as the name/logo for the most part I couldn't care less when teams make changes like that for whatever reason. The only problem I have with it is the name is terrible, the logo on the side of the helmet look like a college team.

RedHogs was the move to make if they made the switch IMO.

Nice but Rough Riders would be nicer.

I think Beane is open to fair criticism but it's not because of "culture".

The criticism that Beane had under-resourced the WR position in the draft up through 2024 is fair IMO.   I also think it's a fair point that our offense is our strength, so invest in it rather than continually searching for a top defense we haven't managed to achieve.  A couple more plays on offense get us there.  Potentially a couple better players make those plays.

The fact is, a number of Beane's attempts to put the Bills over the top have not provided decent return on investment.  Von Miller is the biggest example, but I don't think they got what they expected with Emmanuel Sanders or Amari Cooper either.

But I don't think the issue is the Bills "culture" or "signing for culture".  It's more taking a big risk to sign an undeniably great, but 33 yr old DE to a big contract and pinning your Superbowl hopes that he will work out.

True word.  If we’d had Higgins or Chase types, we’d have a Lombardi by now.
