    Here are my thoughts:

    1) The Bills are running the offense they want to run and it's intentional that they are not focusing on deeper throws.

    2) The focus is on ball control, efficiency, taking layups repeatedly and rolling up points and running clock.

    3) This then causes the other team to have fewer possessions and they have to match the Bills efficiency on offense which usually doesn't happen.

    4) This usually results in the Bills winning by 2+ scores most games

And that's really it. We want them to throw the ball farther down field, they don't really care.

Their focus is on execution, paying attention to details and taking easy yards on any given play, then running the ball down your throat every chance they get.

    Is it sexy? No.

    Is it effective? Yes.

Do we have to like it? No.

Do we have to accept it? Yes.

Very Tom Bradyish which is not by accident,  except he at least threw long ball 2-3xs to keep em honest.

This is a great post, and I agree we have an excellent offense.

You're clearly a glass-is-half-full kind of guy, and I respect that.  But I'm a greedy mutha who doesn't want to appreciate the half glass.  I want a full glass, gosh darn it!

We have an MVP QB and yet we're middle of the pack in passing yards.  The immense arm talent of our unicorn QB is neutered, to an extent, by a weak receiving corps and an OC who doesn't excel at scheming a downfield passing game.

As well as Brady does with the run and short passing games, I daydream about what our offense would look like if we could develop a potent downfield aerial attack too.

I’d like to see long completions too, but this staff wants to control the clock to limit the other teams TOP, which is fundamental to complementary football.  Also, Dan Fouts played against different defenses.

His college career, while solid, didnt really showcase his talents like other stud RBs. He finished his senior year 2nd on the team with 728 yards. The talent was there in spurts, but it really wasnt until his 2nd or 3rd yr in the NFL that he broke out and became the threat that he is today.

Good job by Beane to take him in the 2nd, then build a running game around him, and then resign him. He's definitely worth it.

From draft day I said get him which can be found in my comment history.  He had flashes at UGA similar to Jordan in college.  Most of his runs then were outside.  This OL can give him the 2 foot holes for .5 second, then he does the rest.  He’s much stronger man now.  The training staff gets some credit, and the coaches.  During the playoffs, we’ll see more catches I bet.

Like it or not, it's McD's current legacy and will remain so until he wins a Super Bowl. If he never does, that will be the main thing he's remembered for.

Instead of lifting the curse, he just adds to the pile of Wide Right, 4 In a Row, Music City Miracle, etc

    Add OJ

Going to paste this from another thread because I think it's interesting and want to see what other people think...

One thing the morning show mentioned that wasnt factored as an option: Josh or Cook taking the snap and running straight back for 65 yards and take a safety. We did something similar in a high school game back when I was playing and it sealed a victory, but we were pinned back on our own 15-20yard line, so it was easy to get to the endzone. If Josh/Cook makes it, it probably kills 20 seconds of clock and then you punt to KC with 5-10 seconds left still needing a TD. But if they somehow get tackled at like the 5 or 10 yard line it becomes the worst call in NFL history. Still an interesting option.

That’s risky business, but no one catches JC4.

Reid's multiple rings and track record make it a bit different discussion.

Dawkins, no question.  But we have the 2nd best winning %.  Not too shabby.  The 13 seconds game did cost us though, but we’ve could’ve done a lot worse than McD.

Andy Reid has no fear of Sean McDermott at all, he went for it on a 4th and 17 and made the first down, how does that even happen? We've been stuffed on 4 and 2/ 4th and 3 and they made a 4th and 17. As poor as Mahomes played this game due to the pressure they were only a TD away from tying it up at the end. How many on here thought once Prater missed that FG, "oh no 22 seconds" ? I sure as heck did and there's a reason for that. For me though this game really didn't mean much, none of these regular season games do, seeding in the playoffs doesn't mean much either imo, we've lost at home and on the road in the playoffs so just get me to the playoffs and hopefully McDermott doesn't hold us back again this season that's all you can ask for.

What are they saying about Reid in KC.  He made some flubs too.

That's actually a misnomer...Rice himself stated he had no idea how to "get off the blocks" to run a 40, which caused his time to be very slow.  So yes, while he might have been clocked as that speed, that was not actually his speed in real life if he was running.

Yea he seemed to pull away with long strides.

  9. 3 minutes ago, Big Turk said:

That is relatively inconsequential. Cooper Kupp runs a 4.62 40. Davante Adams runs a 4.57, Cris Carter ran a 4.63, Anquan Bolden ran a 4.71, Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63...

Those numbers don't actually mean anything really...there are other factors involved as to why he isn't able to shake loose that many other players running his speed or slower, figured out how to overcome.

    Jerry Rice 4.7

Many years ago we had the worst offensive line in the NFL. Many fans claimed it was the "scheme." Then they hired Mouse McNally  a famed OL coach. The line either stayed the same or got worse.

What I learned from this is that talent is even more important than scheme.

Agree.  Talent and scheme win SBs.  Beane gets a lot of flack for players not performing to their draft status in the 1st round, but I would guess every other GM in the National Football League has drafted similar players but earlier in the 1st round.  Plus, drafting at the end means you get leftovers.  Do we really think we can do better than Beane?

    At Bills

    At Broncos

    Colts

    At Dallas

    next 4 games.

So not easy for them. Would be nice to beat them and have them lose at least one other one if not two of them.

    They lose next 3 🥳

The only AFC team with a proven pedigree are the Chiefs, next in line are the Bills and then it is the Bengals and the Ravens who are both lagging way behind this year.

KC going to 7 straight AFC championship games is incredibly painful for the rest pf the AFC. Only 4 teams this decade having reached the AFCCG.

I want the Bills to face someone else in the AFCCG this year so that someone else can represent the AFC this year and I 100% want it to be the Buffalo Bills.

Whether we are the the Number 1 seed, the AFC East Champions or a Wild Card it doesn't matter to me, obviously who wouldn't want to be the #1  seed but that isn't the only route to the Super Bowl.

Are the two new "upstart" teams for real? Indianapolis and NE.

Can LAC and Denver keep the AFC West out the hands of KC?

Only the true franchise quarterbacks have made it to the AFCCG this decade, (Mahomes, Allen, Burrow and Jackson).

We can moan about a lot of things but we still have a legitimate shot this year. Go Bills!

Are we a better team than last year?  I’d say so, especially the one we saw yesterday.  Most of us would say we would’ve given Philly a better game than KC last year.  I like our chances if we get the passing game going.  If we do, none of the up and coming teams scare me.

So why doesn’t Brady design slants for Coleman?  The solution to most every offensive problem is obvious to most everyone but Brady.

-no more back shoulder throws/50-50 balls, more slants Keon

-send RBs on routes, get Cook in space

-on 2nd short- more play action!  And just more, a lot more, play action

go 12 and 13 personal most of the game.  There are possibilities from this - try and use your imagination Joe-send Cook in motion and line him up outside- get him isolated on LB or S.  That ones free Joe.

    So Joe

    simple=bad. Imagination and brilliance- good

cute=bad.  Smash mouth good.  Josh 80 yard TD good.

    stagnant- bad.  Evolution-muy bueno

Good points Pete, but maybe we’re not giving Brady enough credit.  Coleman draws the best DB and takes him to the boundary, which should be opening up lanes for others eg - Shakir, Cook, Kincaid.  I agree that we need to see more intermediate JA17 missiles.

Most of this discussion is centered around pass plays. The bigger issue imo is stopping the run first. Otherwise, nothing else matters.

Teams are very consistently hitting the off-tackle 5 and 6 hole with great success against us.

Our DE gets kicked out, they block down on our DT opening a huge hole.

Their WRs blocks our CBs and either other OLs or lead backs are sealing off our LBs.

    It's creating HUGE holes.

And then we rely on our safeties to come make a play, and they fail more times than not.

We struggle to identify these plays and seemingly NO ONE is getting off their blocks.

And teams are running these plays 5-10 times a game, and we have no answer.

And I look pre-snap, and our splits between DT and DE (Edge) leaves a huge gap in the 5/6 holes.

    We need to:

    (a) get off blocks! especially DE/DT and pinch those holes

    (b) narrow the pre-snap gap splits

    (c) recognize the play quicker

    (d) toughen the hell up

Hey BB:  I agree with stopping the run.  Did we do this against ATL in 2nd half.  We need to the whole game this week, and thereafter.
