Someone should text Bill and tell him that we're just re-building and he should give Tom a week off so that he rested for teams that are not re-building.

Let's review this whole QB thing, and see if things would have actually changed much if some of the things fans wanted had actually happened.
1. We keep McCarron and have him start the first 6 games. Two things would have happened. One, our record is no better and maybe worse, based on his play in preseason. People say Peterman wasn't as good as he showed in preseason. Does that mean the reciprocal was true, i.e. McCarron would have been better? Doubt it.
2. McCarron doesn't do well, so people would have been screaming that Allen should be playing. So Allen would have been playing anyway.
Or:
3. We sign a guy like Anderson when we traded McCarron. That should have been done IMHO. Would our record be different? Doubtful but maybe the same. Would people be screaming to start Allen? Yes.
4. We should have kept Taylor, or spent a ton of $$ on a FA QB. A short term benefit but illogical when you knew you were taking a young guy high in round 1.
So really it boils down to this: the only real difference we have between where we are this week and if we had signed a guy at the end of camp is the guy, Anderson, would have a few more weeks to prepare. And Allen would be sitting this week as he is anyway, only with 4 fewer starts to date. Would that have changed things appreciably? Can't say for sure but I tend to doubt it.
And fans would be screaming either way
The biggest gamble was NP being the bridge over troubled waters. Some would say Bridgewater could've been the answer, but, just wishful thinking. Coach put his hopes on NP. The miscalculation was the college-level receivers and O line. Bridgewater or anyone would be running for his life. Like in golf, we are a 18 handicapper going against a scratch golfer, and not getting enough strokes in the bet on the first tee. Let's just be happy with seeing the process get us 4 wins, and a high draft pick.

A 30 year old running back with a high salary cap #? I'd be surprised if they could get anything more than a 4th for him, in which case it would not be worth trading him away. A 2nd round pick sounds like a pipe dream but if that happened that would at least make the trade defensible. Still don't like the idea of trading away our best offensive player when we're one game out of first place in the division.
IF they offer a 2nd, sign on the dotted line in a skinny minute. He could get hurt in the next game. He's probably only good for 8 more games max this year. It gets worst next year. We won't get anything then. The Eagles want him bad. Shady would love to go home. Call'em now. Josh needs to find friends his own age.

I think you're mistaken.
As evidence I offer a thread I started elsewhere, which includes pictures from all-22, and later in a link to an Eric Wood interview about working with a young QB and how he as center took on the role of setting the protections.
Yes, Allen does hold the ball too long sometimes or try to extend the play when he should throw it away, and yes, sometimes he misses a blitz pickup. That's not 80-90% though.
I've gotta agree with VW. Brady knows 90% of the time where the ball is going before he takes one step backward. Earlier I criticized TT for not having a mindset to throw the ball, and not ready to throw it. JA has the former but he's not ready to throw it. Going through the progressions is overblown. In summer, I argued that he must be coached to throw it in 2 secs, but it seems he hasn't been. Please teach the guy to throw it in 2 secs!!!

Agree. This is not a good team and they will be fortunate to win more than 4-5 games at best. However, I liked what I saw of Allen today. I am looking forward to his continued development this year and seeing what they can do next year in regard to bringing in some talent around him.
Hey 59, I'll do you one better. They'll be 0-4 going into October. Hopefully, they can split the rest, but I'm not sure that they're better than Fish or Jets. If Josh is the real deal, they should win 5 or 6, but he'll have to win a couple on his own with 300 yards plus. They may get to 7 if they can get Shady going. Both of these are very questionable at this point.

Honestly they seemed more like the team people were expecting not good but with some fight in them. If they keep going this way hopefully they can get a few wins on the way to a big shift in the next two years.

Chargers will try to put Josh out of business. They will bring everything including the kitchen sink. Josh will have to take some lumps, but I think he will be able to hit on a few. He doesn't seem to be Kelly tough, so I hope the kid is still standing at the end.

Everything I know about McDermott tells me he thinks through every possible scenario. He knew Allen was one injury or bad game away from starting. If they didn't think he was ready they would have kept a 3rd QB. Peterman won the competition but he was never going to start the whole year unless he took the league by storm. I don't think they wanted to start Allen this early if they could avoid it but they aren't blowing up their plan.
I think that they were thinking he'd be ready enough by game 6. Also, they were hoping that the O line would be better, which is now obvious that that was a huge miss. Josh isn't ready enough at this point, but they can't play NP again. NP would probably do as well as what Josh will do this Sunday, however, the fans will boo a lot less with the rookie. Just hope that Shady can run, and KB can catch; otherwise, this one could get ugly in a hurry. I do agree that Josh gives us a better chance of not going 0-4, as along as he doesn't get knocked to la-la land. Go Bills!!!

I fully expect Peterman to start again next Sunday.
They don't want to ruin Allen around these trash players and they know that as soon as they start him, there's no turning back.
Not saying I agree with it.
I say NP starts the first 4 games. He may not deserve it, but Josh doesn't deserve to get a concussion against SD or GB. Our O-Line and the penalties kept giving Ravens a short field. What happened to NP's quick release today? I'd like to see that in game 2.

I just hope he lasts through those first four games. I pray they don’t have to scrape him off the turf in the second quarter if the FIRST game.
I hope the game plan is about 15 quick throws and only 3 strategically placed 25+ yard throws, and more than 30 run plays (end arounds, draws, quick counts, a whole lot of Shady hitting the hole in a hurry). Everything should be designed to frustrate the pass rush. We either win or lose 20-17. Nate will be fine as long as he doesn't have to throw more than 20xs.

The people who watched him...... what does that mean? Or do you mean the "right people who watched him that support your argument?" He was on many boards as the Top QB of the group. This is what I do know. A lie is a lie. A deception is a deception. McDermott is absolutely guilty of both when it comes to how he has handled Allen. An open competition is just that. Not 2 QBs get all the reps that matter and 1 gets none. That would be a deception at best and a lie at the worst. Here is another goodie. McDermott said in the beginning of the so-called QB competition that he would play "the QB that gives the team the best chance of winning." He now says that Nate has "earned the right to start." Is he saying that Nate is both? What happened to the QB who gives the team the best chance of winning criteria? A deception? A lie? I believe he changed the criteria for this reason. By saying that Nate has "earned the right to start" he is distancing himself from the outcome should Nate fail. He can always say that "Nate had his chance and blew it." If he stuck to the criteria and stated that Nate gives us the best chance of winning, then HE can be accused of "blowing it" for picking the wrong QB... duh. I do like him for what he has done but think he is way over his head in developing QBs and WILL make the wrong decision more often than not.
Hello Mr. Turna: Let's ask the coach. I would predict he would say that NP has both earned the right and gives us the best chance to get Ws. I believe that he sees us as a 5-6 win team, and Josh will eventually get his starts. I agree that he set up the reps to give NP an advantage because he didn't see Josh as ready. He wanted to get NP ready. Very smart. NP kept giving the coaches confidence that he could handle it. Josh was up an down. Obviously, he sees something in NP.

This is a bit ambiguous.
Do you mean "if Josh, in his first preseason, performed as Nate did this preseason"
or"if Josh, this preseason, performed as Nate did last preseason"...
If the latter, what I think is that you're probably mistaken. Because Nate did not perform well last preseason.
People gave him props because he was making throws Taylor wouldn't and he played well in the 4th game against the future burger flippers. What, exactly, about Nate's 2017 preseason 54.4% completions for 5.7 YPA, 1 TD, and 4 sacks impresses you so much and makes you think it's better than Josh Allen's 2018 preseason 54.4% completions for 4.8 YPA, 2 TD, and 7 sacks? I mean 4.8 YPA < 5.7 YPA, but we all know Allen has a gifted arm and his WR didn't help him out on a few long throws. 4 sacks > 7 sacks, but likewise our OL seems considerably worse.
Hey Hap: Nice points. Comparing both 1st pre-seasons, my take is that Nate looked better and was more confident. I didn't see that from Josh this year. Maybe I just had higher expectations from the Cowboy.

If Josh would have performed like Nate did in his 1st preseason, he would've gotten the start. Something to think about ...
-
Against Ravens, NP starts his journey to Canton … quick tosses to RBs and TEs, dupe the CBs up to the line, then go over the top to Zay … he will channel Joe Cool Montana … he will be heralded as Nate the Great … he will return the Bills to the glory days on the early 90s … not sure if he'll bring the Lombardi to OBD … I'll let you know by game 5. BTW, it's late for me, and maybe this is just a dream.

EJ is an easy guy to pull for. I hope he gets picked up. If not, I hope someday he is a high school or college coach. He represents everything that we would want young men to become. We need more character guys.

Peterman throwing the out route is keeps me up at night
After his off season conditioning program, I hear Peterman CAN throw that out route like a streaking missile. He's just keeping it under wraps in pre-season. Hear me now, and believe me later.

I LOVED the Josh Allen pick, and I don't blame him at all for today, but I don't know if I want to see him get destroyed behind that line all season. With that said, I will be ok with whoever they name to be the starter for this season. Although I don't think it should be McCarron.
With this O line at this point, NP gives you a quick release and I think he understands the playbook and the angles on D, and he can put the ball through a tire hanging from a tree on a rope 10-35 yards away. These 5 things could get us to the playoffs again: however, the O line has to become at least average. Also, I'd take accuracy over being able to chunk it 60 yards.

Question Regarding the QB situation

Gosh, we haven't seen enough of Josh to say he's not an NFL QB. I guess you don't like apple pie either. He needs to get the reps even though he has no help. I'm afraid that come January, we will not know anymore than we know today. We need to get a running game, otherwise, this kid will be running for his life when he gets back in. Not a good situation to evaluate a QB.
