So if Allen becomes a franchise Qb and Mayfield does not, does analytics in football die?

McShay has the Top 4 QBs all ranked higher than Mahomes, Flacco and Watson.
Luck: 99
Matt Ryan: 98
Winston/ Bradford/ RG3: 97
McShay has Darnold at 94 - the same grade as Tannehill who went 12th overall.
He has Rosen and Allen at 91 along with Bortles (18th), Wentz (10th), Goff (11th).
Revisionist history. No one was higher on Ryan than they currently are on Rosen.

A topic I havent seen talked about much. Is Mahomes a better prospect than what the Bills could possibly get this year? If so any trade up can/would look really foolish.
No he is not. 3 of the Qbs in this class would be rated higher then anyone in last years class.

Because NYG may not be willing to drop to 12. I'm thinking about a trade to 7 or 8 and trading that pick with others to the Giants.
I dont believe that. Could be wrong but they would have the ability to manuever all around this draft for the guy they like. A highly rated player will be there at 12. i could see nelson sliding. I could see them trading ODB to move into the top 10. Alot of ifs but that is what i believe.

The most common threads on TBD is about which quarterbacks to dump or obtain. Almost all note that the last great QB we had was Kelly ~ 20 years ago. Seems to me there should be at least a little more talk about getting a game changing stud on defense. We have not had one since Bruce Smith - also 20 years ago. Why haven't we been able to draft another one? Failed at that too.
Sam Cowart, Pat Williams, Marcel Dareus, Takeo spikes, London Fletcher were all first or second team all pros where has that gotten Buffalo? Buffalo has never drafted a Qb inside of the top 10. I believe that is a strong correlation why Buffalo has had 1 franchise Qb in its history. There are 5 guys who are 90 plus rated Qb prospects. By most accounts this is the strongest Qb class in terms of Talent and production in some time. Buffalo has 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. At 12 they are in striking distance of getting their top rated Qb. Why would anyone be against doing so? The strength of this draft is in rds 2 and 3 an 4. By trading half or 2/3 of the picks they can get a franchise Qb for the first time since Kelly. Even if they dont turn out to be as good they are at that same level of potential. Plus add a starter in rd 2 and rd 3, while retain the remaining mid to late rd picks? It makes complete sense.

I've also recently decided that Josh Allen is the best QB in the class. It's a ballsy move to trade up for him, but after watching his interviews, only the Bills coaching staff could screw him up. If he lands in a good coaching situation, he will become a superstar IMO. An athletic Ben Roethlisberger. A must watch if he's on MNF.
I see Darnold in the Bradford, Stafford, Cutler category. Rosen really turns me off for some reason. Lamar Jackson I see as a stronger, tougher, slower Tyrod Taylor. Baker Mayfield turns me off, and Rudolph I like but I don't think he'll be better than say, AJ McCarron. A sleeper I think is Kyle Lauletta from Richmond. If I was GM and I couldn't get Allen, I would wait for the top of the 3rd to draft Lauletta, and stock up on all other needs. He could be a star QB IMO.
Could he bust? Sure as could Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield, or Jackson. Its pretty obvious to me why he is in consideration for 1. His strengths are higher than any other prospects. His weakness are there. Are those coach able areas where they could be limited. I do. Can Mayfield succeed in a dirty pocket and tight window throws? Can Rosen absorb NFL punishment with his injury history? Can Darnold improve his ball security? Can Jackson improve his lower body mechanics and pocket awareness. They all have some work to do. Who have the most room to grow? Who could become Great? Rare year.

He's overpaid no matter how you try to spin it. No one is disputing the fact that he's a good player who produces based on volume.
Lead the league in catches 4th in Tds. He is 5th in money seems about right when Julio and Becham will reup soon.

Wow! 10 YPC!
Best slot reciever of all time averaged 10. Landry is doing that with spotty qbs. Landry is not top 5 right now but he is better than Watkins, and you cant name 10 wrs more productive than him.

8.8 YPC is not worth $15M per season. He requires no special attention from opposing defenses.
That was playing with Matt Moore and Jay Cutler. Career he is over 10 YPC and very similar to Welker in his prime in that department.

I would really not like having Bill and Mcdaniels developing Jackson behind Brady for 2 years. Then Brady retires and they go all in on Jackson with the RPO offense.

He's an overpaid slot receiver.
Does it matter where he is lined up if he catches 100 passes a year no matter who his Qb is?

Very simple, the last time Wyoming was bowl eligible in back to back seasons prior to the 2 seasons Josh Allen quarterbacked was 88 89 season. They are a bottom feeder program in the Mountain West Conference and ranked in 120's in NCAA rank prior to the 2016 season. His Sophomore season the majority of the offense were Seniors and he put up good numbers. Wyoming does not recruit well so they rely on players getting on the field and improving before they would at other schools. This past year he played with mainly Sophomores and it has showed. However, the offense he played in did not help him as a passer in regards to his passing efficiency. He played in an offense out of the mid 90s to early 2000's big ten. Not much creativity and alot of the big plays were on Allen to make with his arm and ability. He has the most impressive tape by having the most NFL caliber throws. There is no doubt if he can translate to an NFL offense because he has made the prerequisite passes already. Imo a lot of his accuracy issues is when he tries too much. With his arm strength he would attempt throws from horrible platforms. He could be Kyle Boller but the game has changed so much since then. If he continues to utilize a personal Qb coach and improves his mechanics to a point where its automatic sky is the limit. High end his ceiling is Brett Farve. I see him very similar in terms of football IQ and natural ability. He will throw interceptions because of his arm will get him into trouble at times. Low end jeff george. If he does not master the mechanics of throwing his accuracy concern will pop up through his career. Imo if he doesn't develop a substance abuse problem he will have a long career do to his immense ability and athleticism, but a what if story. With the level of Qbs in the NFL at worst he will be on a roster for as long as he wants to play similar to Jeff George.

I think Landry is very underrated. Extremely productive and has fantastic hands. Good for Cleveland.

Not that anyone should base things on me, but I have exactly 22 first-round grades this year. I have 38 2nd round grades and 73 day 2 grades overall.
22 is still better than 53,56. You have a higher probability of selecting the player you like at 22 than at 33. With the amount of Qbs that are getting drafted in rd 1 there will be talented guys at 22. Or Buffalo keeps the crappy 22 pick and trades both 2s and 3s picks up an extra 4th.

I think it's a 3 way trade with another team in the top 8. Beane mentioned being wary of trading up to 7 or 8 and then being "stuck" if you can't keep going higher. Seems like there's something going down that requires 3 teams to act simultaneously.
Why? I think NYG would rather have 12,22,53,65 than splitting it. Imo 2019 2nd is on thr table. They want 2019 1st. Beane is staying strong. Come eve of or day of that 2nd becomes 1 and is done.

Giants want Darnold though...
I disagree. Leaks this time of year is to increase the take imo. If they wanted Darnold why let Cleveland know? They may think he falls to 4... Imo Gettleman knows Beane enough to know his guy. Imo its 12,22,53,65 and 2019 2nd. What the rumor is Beane already offered. Gettleman wants 2019 1st. I wont be surprised that happpens but expect the giants 3rd and a 2019 4th to off set it.
January, everyone would be estatic if Buffalo gets the pick of Darnold or Rosen. I fimrly believe that is the case. Im torn. Rosens injury history concens me, so does Darnolds fumbles and ints. Fun times. Either guy is the best Qb prospect Buffalo has ever had.

The Bills have never picked a Qb in the top 10 in the franchises history. The 5th rated qb this year will be higher rated than the top Qb next year. They collected the extra, first, extra second, extra third to go get the one they want. That is what needs to happen. Rounds 2 and 3 get a pass catcher and linebaker, than fill out the roster with whats left. There are literly 5 Qbs rated higher than Ej was. Maybe 6 depends how you feel about Rudolph.

So he’s strictly a DE in our scheme right? No chance at dropping weight and playing the Sam and pass rushing on 3rd?
I think thats his position to be honest. Kinda poor mans Barr or Reddick. I think he would be a SAM. More an athlete than natural pass rusher. Highschool saftey so he has range.
-
I see him similar to Anthony Barr. i think you stand him up and he is a sam in a 4-3

How is Qb below Lb, guard, and a complimentary Wr? How? After last year I want no part of Peterman on the field. McCarron is a career back who has not showed that he is anything more than that. In my eyes Qb is by far the most glaring need. Yes, Lb and Wr are a need. They can be filled in rds 2 and 3. I think a linebaker many are high on will be available in Rd 2 and they can find a complimentary Wr in rd 3 or later same with the remaining depth concerns. Go where the the best players are a, 90 plus rated Qb prospect is the highest ranked players on the board especially for a team that doesn't have a starting Qb. Who is to say Roquan Smith isnt Aaron Curry? He was cant miss top 5, the saftest player in the draft. Look at the Browns. The past 20 years since they drafted Tim Couch they picked the safer player first than the Qb at 22.. That has never worked out in their favor.

They have holes. IMO the largest holes are still QB, Linebaker, Wr , than Depth on the oline, linbaker, and secondary. Top priority has to be QB. Last year Mcdermott showed he is an adequate game day coach that can win games he shouldn't and have his team ready and prepared. Even with Mccarron playing 16 games I think Buffalo still wins 7 or more games. If that happens Buffalo is sitting right where they are now but without 22,56, and 65th picks. Next year there will not be 5 Qbs rated 90 or higher in terms of quality prospects. Buffalo must use their created pick surplus to move them into position to obtain one of those prospects. The higher rated the better, Bufflao has never drafted a high quality prospect at Qb in over 35 years. They never drafted a qb inside of the top 10 picks in the franchises history. I would offer 12,22,56,65 and 2019 1st for 2. Get Rosen who imo is the most pro ready. Use the second and third to find 2 positional starters, and the remaining picks fill the depth. Maybe they can get Rosen at 4 or later but that would be taking on a large risk, he could end up in the division at the Jets. Of the Qbs whoever they value highly this need to be the mindset. Next year Buffalo has tremendous cap space and can really add players to the roster to move them into a perennial contender if they have a Qb that looks like a Franchise guy. if that happens they will attract better players on the outside. Build your foundation through the draft, that foundation is a franchise Qb.

The delta in the ceiling between Darnold and Allen is smaller than the delta between them in the floor.
To me this is a clear risk management decision and Cleveland will select Darnold as a result.
Agree, but i don't think Hasslam is risk averse. Imo Wentz sits in his mind today. He does not want to make that mistake twice. Both Darnold and Allen should sit a year. Its not a surprise that Allen could go one. If Darnold was as polished as Rosen sure, but Darnold is not as clean a prospect as the media perceives him to be. With the age of the QB pool Imo you are going to see QBs drafted on potenial in a more of a NBA way than the NFL has normally operated. They are not drafting 20-21 year old Qbs on what they were in January but what they think they will be in next year and the year following.

Never going to happen. GB will Franchise him at minimum 2 years. The franchise tag will be a discount compared to Rodgers actual value.
Seattle postpones Kaepernick workout b/c of kneeling?

Why would Seattle want to answer questions after every game about the back up QB who didnt play? Does he want to be a justice warrior or play football? Personally, his kneeling has no affect on me. It does not bother me in the slightest. However, when you start something like that and has now cut down party lines there is some accountability and consequence for your media whirlwind that follows. Its a multi billion dollar industry that makes there living and money off advertisements and public viewership. If those actions results in 1 fan not watching or one advertiser to drop out that has now cost the organization money. No team wants to have a media circus following them to every city and every game because of there backup QB.
