It seems to me that many people these days are having real trouble calling it quits before they’ve past their prime. When you get to a certain stage or age it’s time to move on and let the next generation take these limited spots.  I’m all for tradition but you have to look in a mirror.

That's why I retired at the first available opportunity. I have no regrets about that and the young woman who took my former position had been a student of mine, so it was doubly sweet. I do some freelancing in a related field - I like to say that it's to supplement the pension, but really, I just enjoy the work and it's a very light load.

In my now retired life I’ve learned it isn’t about money. These guys entire existence is wrapped up in their ‘job’. You’ve got it right when you say move over and let the new guys do their thing.

Yeah, their careers are their identities. It's sad, actually.

My career was just one facet of my life, but certainly not my identity. It was easy to walk away. I miss certain aspects of it, but not enough that I would ever consider going back.

  2. When he was in his prime, Al was arguably the best play-by-play guy ever. But he's lost a step, as they say, so I'm not surprised that they pushed him out of SNF and he's not doing playoff games. I've always liked Tirico, so I'm glad he got the gig. If they'd ditch Collinsworth, I might watch SNF more often.

Still, it's pretty uncool that Al had to find out about it this way.

  3. What's even more vague than a subject line with just a name?

A subject line that says, "[Name only title]" on a thread whose opening message is just, "Bring ‘im in. Stretch the field. McBeane..??"

    He's "finished?"

The guy is 22, played pretty well in his moments last season, and supposedly was nursing an ankle injury when he played this season.

    He's not finished.

I agree, but to the OP's point, I don't think he's a better option than the CBs ahead of him on the depth chart. I see no reason to suit him up for the Cowboys' game.
