So it's a one year deal with Houston paying him more this year and tearing up the final 3 years of his deal?

    What am I missing?

Houston traded a potentially Top 40 pick next  year for a couple Day 3 picks and a rental?.. And Diggs wants to test FA at his age 32 season?

    I just heard that!

He's going to Dallas in 2025.

Here's something that did occur to me. This might seem like an odd example but I do remember when Baker was playing with OBJ, when OBJ got injured Baker's stats dramatically improved because he wasn't trying to constantly force him the ball to appease him. Maybe there's been some of that with Josh and Diggs.

The thought has crossed my mind that they don't go after one of the top WR's.  Double up late in the 1st and trade back up early in the 2nd.

I agree with you, what’s your point?

Can you help me out here?  You're surprised we got anything for Diggs but then say that you're not convinced a 2nd was the best offer?

We didn’t have a #1 last year either and our #3 was a #4 at best.  I’m honestly surprised we got anything for Diggs looking at his last 10 games.

You have absolutely zero credible intel to back your claim that “only the Texans” were offering a 2nd for Diggs. What we do know is that the Texans were a preferred destination for Diggs. This has been discussed via multiple channels since the conclusion of the pro-bowl.

Amari Cooper went for a 5th as a 26 year old in the prime of his career.  A 2nd for Diggs was great value.

    The Texans are being overrated.

I said it yesterday - people should check their schedule last season.  They didn't beat many good teams.  They'll have a 1st place schedule this year, and won't catch teams by surprise like they did in '23.

Not that they won't be in contention, but they haven't proven much to me yet.

I honestly can see them being the 2021 Cleveland Browns.

If Reed didn't play in 4 Super Bowls, he wouldn't have one either. He never even had back to back 1000 yard seasons, only had 4 ever and only hit 10 TDs once in his career. if he played today, he might not be a top 30 player. Meanwhile Diggs has 6 consecutive 1k seasons, 2 seasons of 10+ TDs in 7 fewer seasons.

Reed is near the top of the most overrated players of all time.

Do you really not understand the difference in eras?

When Reed retired, he was 3rd all time in receptions.

In 1990, there were only 3 WR's with 80 or more receptions.  Yes that's right....3.

Last year in 2023, there were 23.

    Do you see the difference?

In Jim Kelly's first 6 seasons, he had 2,252 passing attempts.

In Josh Allen's first 6 seasons, he has 3,145 passing attempts.  Nearly a thousand more passing attempts.

I mean, I dont necessarily disagree with your point but WRs have been like this for a long time. Andre Reed was a known malcontent and chirper. Keyshawn Johnson was a thing. Randy Moss was Randy Moss. Isaac Bruce was well known for his sideline blowups in St Louis in the late 90s.

Larry Fitzgerald was more an aberration. But even with Fitz, watching Kurt Warners' "A Football Life", Warner had to light a fire under Fitzgerald just to get him to practice hard or train in the offseason which he thought he was too good for early in his career.

I expect our next #1 WR to have a similar attitude. So should Josh.

Andre Reed ripped the Bills Front Office prior to a playoff game...I believe before Music City Miracle.

he had to do media cover for him for like 2 seasons.

probably doesn’t hate Diggs because guys don’t really do that in the league, but it had to be annoying

I think it got beyond annoying and to the level of "sick of his s***".

This is just stuff that's made public.  Who knows how Diggs has been communicating with everyone behind the scenes.

Beane alluded yesterday that he had been in communication with Allen and informed him that there were calls about moving Diggs and it wasn't off the table. So, Allen knew this was a possibility.

I don't believe that Allen would object because he understands the business side of things by now. I think Allen would like to have him on the field, but is also used to new faces and moving on. Change has been consistent in his career. Be it Beasley and Brown or even now with Diggs and even Gabe Davis...the ship sails on and he knows that

My most likely take on his "feelings" on the matter is that he will miss the good that came with Diggs being here...but is also ready to move on and stop having to answer questions about their relationship and what's going on with Diggs

I think Beane is just being "PC" and didn't want Allen in the spotlight with this.  I am willing to bet that Allen knew step by step.

If Beane had stated Allen knew that it was going to happen, then Allen starts getting questions that we are trying to avoid and drop the Diggs drama for good.

    I think so.

I'm not sure any of us can properly imagine what it must feel like to have a guy like Diggs chirping in your ear after every play. He's moody, he's mercurial, he's intense. He seems like the type of guy you maybe sort of have to walk on eggshells around.

Sometimes, when a WR with a big, dominant ego/aura leaves, I think it has the potential to mentally free up a quarterback to just go out and play ball and throw it to the open guy, without having to worry about keeping one certain guy happy.

Also, whereas in the first two seasons together, Diggs and Allen genuinely seemed like the best of friends and like they had a great relationship, the past two seasons (and especially last season), it seemed very forced. The things NOT being said, the way Diggs never seemed to publicly defend Allen the way Allen defended Diggs...it all spoke volumes.

We'll likely never know exactly what happened or why it created the rift it did, but clearly SOMETHING changed between these guys along the way. It was palpable.

So yes, I bet Allen feels some relief. With Diggs and Morse and Gabe out the door, I also think the onus is now COMPLETELY on him to be the ass-kicking vocal leader of this offense. I hope and expect that he will come out this season playing looser, freer, having more fun, and leading his men.

I think that, at this moment in his career, this may wind up being exactly what Josh Allen needed.

Yep.  Everyone hates being around someone like that in any setting.

The question on the qb pod asked by Jordan Palmer and Kyle Allen about this wr class is telling.  He is looking at wr hard.  He wanted Kincaid last year too.  Allen will pick the guy he wants imo.

Very interesting.  I think Allen probably saw this coming and knew it was going to happen for awhile now.

  11. I honestly don't think that the Bills do this without Allen give it a thumbs up.

I think James Jones on one of those talk shows said the Bills figured out they can with without him.

Allen spreads the ball out well, maybe better than any QB in the league.  With Diggs getting up there in age, slowing down and Allen not having to worry about getting Diggs his targets....Allen could actually be better.  You can't force the balls to Diggs like it's 2020 or 2021 anymore.  Diggs will want his targets regardless if he's slowing down.

Allen can now just walk up to the line and can just throw it where he thinks its the best place to go rather than satisfying Diggs ego.  It has to be a relief IMO.

WR are diva's and probably will have to deal with something like this again but a more mature way.  I appreciate what Diggs did for us for 4 seasons but these, what Tim Graham said "micro aggressions" do get annoying, especially for Allen.

We need a 1, not a 2.  Slim pickings I know, I'd rather take our chances drafting one.

I would rather draft one too but I think Aiyuk could be a good #1 as well.  He got 105 targets last year and I think if you give him 30 more with the Bills...I think we could see a Diggs from MN to Buffalo type of increase in production.

From what I know about Aiyuk is he's a yac guy and we need more of that.

    I would do this trade.

I would do that in a heartbeat but wouldn't think this would be enough.  Both Bills #1 and #2 picks will be later in the round picks.

The Vikings might be gold but still, a second so 33 at the earliest.  The Giants could use one of these elite WR's as well.

Me too.  I was a big defender of Diggs because I liked his fiery attitude and wanted more players to have it.  I knew he was a diva but he produced.

But then the moment when we need him, especially after his act towards Allen on the sidelines last playoffs....this drop completely changed how I felt about him.

Our playoff wins haven't depended upon Diggs.   They've depended upon playing QBs like Skylar Thompson, Mason Rudolph, Mac Jones, a 39-year old Rivers in his last game ever, and in the case of the Ravens, a defense that had to defend a team who's top WR was Marquise Brown and whose leading rusher was their QB, otherwise JK Dobbins.  Otherwise we can't win any playoff games.

Pretty much agree with you there.  Let's also contrast Caserio with Beane.

Are you basically saying the Ravens offense wasn’t good that year?  Yes or no the Ravens were 7th in the league scoring that year?

Diggs will be fine for the Texans the next couple of seasons. He’s like the spouse that gets caught cheating and promises to change their ways. They are on their best behavior after being caught (traded)……but only for a while.

What if....what if CJ Stroud takes a step back??

Beane took the classy high road and had prepared answers, but MAN the way he carefully worded some of his responses were telling.

He is a good PR guy.  I could feel the wheels in his turning to answer this the best he can without throwing Diggs under the bus.

Deep inside his brain, he was probably saying "I couldn't F****** wait to get rid of this mother******"
